If you like the beast have a look at some of their other concepts. About 20 years ago they were designing wave piercing cats that had the features current designers are winning awards for (like the under water lounges and such)

When I was (much) younger, I always loved catamarans for their stability and efficiency compared to regular sailboats. As I got older, I didn't care for them so much on the yacht level because they've always been cramped for crew and guests. In 2022, I've seen some much better m/y catamarans and really like how they're coming along. I'm looking forward to your future videos here, on the charter channel and on the builders channel. 🙂

When it comes to power cats, for me there is only one to consider and that's the Sunreef 80 Power ECO. I love their solar powered solution and till now there is no one coming close to them, yes not even Silent.

White Rabbit remains one of my favorites besides Hodor. The 2Oceans catamarans I've been interested in, but you never see anything about them except their own videos which aren't all that informative. Lynx has been getting a lot of attention with their support yachts and at FLIBS I spoke to one of the reps who said they were exploring a 32M support catamaran designed also to carry a 2 person submarine that would be deployed from under the hull. The submarine resided in a completely encapsulated cradle under the catamaran in the center of the yacht and the cradle was designed to break waves if needed. Sounds cool.

Hi David. The commercial cats are impressive although the Sunreef and Silent are popular with owner operation. Silver yachts looks interesting as is rossi navi. Great video thanks 😊

Lagoon’s new 117ft power cat based on the design of their Seventy 8 is going to turn heads soon.

I've always wonder the drawbacks of a catamaran compared to a monohull, apart from the extra berthing cost. What is it that makes the demand of cats so low?

Interesting developments and exciting designs yet I am still more of a monohull guy.

Considering all the problems that the USN is having with their aluminium Cats (Littoral Combat ships) with massive hull fatigue cracks and engineering failures having to be towed back into port more than under own power. It has become so bad that they are decomming 2 year old ships. So If someone wants to go Cat have it built in steel and be prepared to do hull inspections yearly to including having the hull x-rayed at the highest stress points. Just be forewarned that maintenance cost might become cost ineffective and the owner may end up with a total hole in the water to throw their money into. Considering most owners are not the US Navy and are used to throwing good money after bad to keep their Military industrial friends in government contracts.

the issue with a LCS is majority self inflicted by the USN. They are plenty of large commercial cats plying the north atlantic as car ferries. Also the spearheads are having zero technical issues. The galvanic corrosion was 100% USN fault. They wouldn't allow the standard industry practice of a electrical anti corrosion systems on the ships.

@@richardthomson4693 That sounds about right for the current USN pinching dollars to save pennies along with the current admin that hates the military spending upkeep dollars to make the Navy WOKE. However, maintenance still is something owners of what ever the hull form Cats or standard hulls should still be inspected in a regular cycle. Just look at standard Yachts that have to have a chase boat in case they break down is it just me or is something wrong with that?

One draw back I always come back to with the catamaran is the beam. It does add the xtra living space and stability at sea, but the extra cost of construction and moorage. I know with the style of marinas in Canada and the limited availability the it would be very expensive and even harder to find. Maybe something you could touch on in the future. Thank you for your intriguing stories in all your videos.

Definitely not marina friendly. Even the superyacht marinas. You will be looking at limited spots. But if you are a billionaire who wants to be different....

I’m from Canada and I have always owned either a cat or a tri for the past 30 years or so. Early on we used to say the beam would only be a problem if everyone owned one, and that is still pretty much true in Canada today. The average marina always has a few end slips or wide slips and in all these years we never had a problem. Having delivered cats throughout the Caribbean, I can count on one hand the number of nights I have spent in a marina. Good easy to deploy ground tackle and a capable dinghy are way more important than the beam of the boat. I have also crossed the Gulf Stream and done the ICW on cats, trawlers, etc and while the motion of a cat is different and can be lumpy, the overall quality of life on board versus an unwieldy, rolly trawler is also a positive. The cost is likely the most significant drawback, but most owners take the big money in, big money out philosophy. Personally, I think it is unfortunate that the 30-35’ cruising power cat range is largely vacant right now. There are only a handful of older used ones and they hold their value. This keeps the mainstream cruising couple out of the market.

David, I believe that you have mentioned them once before so revisit Metal Shark Yachts - they have some really cool "cats". HNY to you and thanks for your channel which is always interesting.

Cats are cool, trimarans are even cooler😎 You should check out the Sunreef 210. Not sure if it's gone beyond just the concept stage but this is the boat I would want to own if I had the money.

Love the cats. I like dogs too.

As a tender, I can see the value of a two hull boat. A catamaran makes a great tender with all the dead space. Also good as a sailboat. As a one-off super yacht, I would look elsewhere. I would not cross any ocean in a catamaran.

You seem to have passed over a number of items. Are those just regional cats? Or or any of them capable of crossing oceans? Is anybody building a cat that’s ice rated so she can take it north or south? Have you looked at all into the people that are talking about doing all electric cats? I would be very interested in hearing about any cats that have electric driven pods with generator back up. And definitely information on anything that can actually cross oceans and not just sit in a local harbor and look pretty.

At least 2 of the companies mentioned have all electrics available. You can get a Silent or a Sunreef that is either pure electric with solar recharge or with hybrid power. The old Silent 55 is trans Atlantic capable and probably capable of a trans Pacific run, especially if you add in their kite-sail option. The closest I've seen to an ice-capable cat is the new Archipelago line-up, but since they're in the 47-56 foot range I think they're too small to be of interest to our host! The 47 has a 3000nm range, so it won't be a harbor queen.
