    I saw this movie one night by pure accident while flipping through the channels back in my first apartment. It came out on TCM, and I will never forget seeing this dance sequence and fascinated I was with it! Great movie, great dancing!!!

    My goodness!! Goosebumps all over me.... Especially after setting my eyes on our historic Intore dancer; #Butera_bwa_Nturo!! I have always been seeing his pictures but now seen him perform 👏👏👏. My culture, my pride!!

    I saw King Solomon's Mines when I was 8. I'm way past that age now and I'll never forget how magnificent, graceful and just soooooooo beautiful they were when they all danced!S. B.

    The entire movie is absolutely wonderful. Stewart Granger and Debra Kerr. TCM runs it once in awhile. Go on line and check the forward schedules.

    @@kakacaca5157 Ask any Rwandan or Munana sub-clan member....this is one of our great uncles......Many Rwandese know him and keep a picture at their homes....he was a dancer of King Rudahigwa......

    My sister and I would watch the old Tarzan movies and we were memorized by the tribal dancing of these people. Little would I know that one day I would travel to Africa and see these tribal dancers with my own eyes!!

    I finally realized watching this, that I literally go into a trance whenever I watch African dance... I don't know how but I felt at peace and wound up at the same time with him... with them all, and I was mesmerized.

    This was the Kings palace, many structures like this existed throughout the Kingdom of “Ruanda-urundi”. King Mutara III was assassinated by the Belgians and his heir exiled to the US, dying a King with no country. The monarchy can be traced by written record over 1000 years to 1000 AD but oral history records it to years B.C.

    @@johntrust6217 The Belgium King was horrifically involved in ordering terrible massacres, which is something I cannot understand. Surely this as not the start of Hutu and Tutusi massacres in history? Cynthia McLaglen

    @@cynthiamclaglen5687 Dear Cynthia unfortunately this was the case. The Belgians found it hard to get their grip on Rwanda. Particularly with the Rwandan monarch in place, it was hard to exert rule over highly established levels of decentralised administration. So they set out to device the old “divide and conquer”. The French later took over and trained the Hutu government and militia to perpetuate the genocide.

    It was very thoughtful of the Film maker to include such a beautiful dance . The African continent had and has a rich cultural heritage. But for this great item, I wouldn't have known this fact half a century ago.

    So good to find this on KZread! I can remember having to sit through the entire film, just to watch this part -- tremendous! In her recording of 'The Jungle Line', Joni Mitchell samples the Burundi Warrior Drums; I think maybe there's a connection? 🙏🏼🌹🙏🏽

    That's Tutsi, not Tusti. The Tutsi are from the "great lakes" region of central Africa - Rwanda / Burundi / Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaire)

    En el Centro Comercial Yumbo, en Gran Canaria, España. Había un señor que hacía un show de transformismo que era de raza negra. Su nombre artístico era Batusi, ahora entiendo que venía de este secuencia de esta película. El pobre señor ya falleció, le recuerdo haciendo su show de playback muy mayor. En paz descanse.

    This is an original Tutsi dance. Has since become a Rwandan dance in the name of unification. But it is a dance of the Tutsi tribe originally! And that is a historical fact!

    "i whip my hair back n forth i whip my hair back n forth." love seeing traditional african dance and how it correlates with todays dancing. when i taught at an all black school, i realized just how important dance is to black culture. my kids couldnt help but dance. they were just *always dancing.*

    Even Blacks in Africa have this infatuation with blond wigs but this time it's the men. Is this where it all started? But I love the dance moves and I believe the dancers after having seen themselves on video no longer have to wonder why their audiences have looked so captivated all these years.

    The blonde wigs are culturally trying to mimic a lions mane. It’s the cultural dance in Rwanda. Where the Tutsi were a ruling class during the monarchy error.

    As others have pointed out its to mimick the mane of a lion,these ones are overly long i think for the dance,while originally they were shorter and kind of stayed up instead of falling to the back making the warrior seem taller and more intimidating.
