So true! I am a American who is black decent from slavery ....with Nigerian and Cameroon DNA I just learned some of my genetic make up. I am learning so much about my people it’s been a surprise to learn my DNA...also a little bit of Mali, Ghana, Bantu, 25% British, Ireland, and Scottish. I am so a product of slavery

Some people like asylum sealers love their country so much but its not safe for them to go back, so they raise their children here, get them education and hope that one day they can go back. They still learn their language, they still learn their culture. Also making people aware of their culture brings more respect and understanding so its not all bad. You can't just judge peoples lives like that come on man

This dance is still performed in Trinidad & Tobago, and other Caribbean Islands. It is an integral part of our ancestral heritage & culture. Performed during the carnival celebration period, a dancer on stilts is known as a 'Moko Jumbie'. Children learn to dance the Moko Jumbie at quiet an early age.

The Dogon knew of the existence of Sirius B before NASA finally verified it in like 1978. Sirius B is not visible with naked eye so the Dongons knowledge is far more accurate than they get credit for. These people are super awesome!

So beautiful! Brings me great joy to see these traditions being passed down. Reminds me of my Pueblo indigenous peoples. My maternal tribes wear masks as well, like the fariseos in Sonora Mexico or the Zuni/Hopi people’s masks. Praise to all the indigenous tribes around the world 💖

Carnival and Masquerade... I think this may be the roots of Moko Jumbies but Carnival is rooted in our history in terms of slavery. Slaves used to dress up to mock the slave masters who had elaborate parties that slaves were not privy to. Then other characters evolved in mockery of social events such as the women who used to try to extort money from men by saying their baby belonged to them, then there is sailor mas reflecting the presence of service men....it's alot of history. You cannot look at the end aka pretty mas, the least significant and least historic part of the Carnival, literally find a video of any random tribe in a mask with percussion and then draw a parallel. Please. There is Google

At least Africa has something that colonizers cannot steal.

Interesting to see some of the traditions show up in the Caribbean. The connections to Mother Africa is strong no matter how much we were beaten into submission by European colonizers.

Not enough thumbs to say how much I appreciate this particular video. It's everything my mother described everything. Brought me much closer to my ancestors. Tears of joy, laughter the urge to get up and dance along with my brothers minus the stilts. But I did so them in my stilettos! I plan to make a homage trip home in 2021. There was an In Search Of done of the Dogon back in the 1970s and it was fascinating. Their knowledge of astronomy without having telescopes is amazing.

When I was a child growing up in Antigua in the Caribbean in the 60's,during the carnival seasons we had people dancers like this in costumes, you don't see that now.

In the Caribbean, we have Moko Jumbies. Never too far from home.

Woooow .... we have this in Jamaica!!! We call it jankunu....it’s almost the same ... very similar mask and costumes!!! And walking on stilts!! Wow ..it’s amazing how we managed to hold on to pieces of our culture through centuries of slavery! Unfortunately, it dies more and more with each generation as it isn’t taught nor seem as relevant anymore!

This is impresive, amazing art work with those costumes they wear, and those amazing mask and dancing with those high stilts, is not that easy. Just impresive and beautyfull.

They travelled with spaceships more than 8 light years from Sirius B, the Dog Star many thousands of years ago to live on this planet.

this is very similar to the Indian classical dance Kuchipudi where we balance candles on our head and hands while standing upon a brass pot dancing in such a way that keeps the candles standing still on our hands sometimes we balance 10 different size brass pots on our head or dance on a brass plate twirling in circles beautiful african dance proud to be African I'm from South Africa

This explains where Mardi Gras in New Orleans has stilt walkers dancing.

Nah that was a Central and North American Native thing as well. I don’t like how Native culture gets overwritten all the time. Stilt dancing is glorious but it’s not just African, give the Natives credit also.

Yeah that goes for all the Caribbean Islands and the Americas. The Jamaicans folks dancers does lot of African dances and there's a group called Janko unoes i think that I might have missed spelled the name but the main thing, I want to say is that they specialized in dancing on stilts during major holidays and at Christmas time.

This is the second video I've watched where you described a dance as impossible when it clearly is not impossible because it is being done. Impossible means it cannot be done. Difficult, complicated or strenuous would be better descriptions. This is an amazing dance but, again, it is not impossible. If you want to emphasize how complicated it is you could call it astoundingly difficult or almost impossible. Enjoyed watching these wonderfully athletic dancers!

But using the more sound alternatives that you have proposed will not have the same effect. The combination of "impossible" and something that is being done simply makes viewers more curious about the video's content. He wasn't trying to be lexically correct. This is youtube, people are creative with their captions, as the aim is not only to describe content, but to draw people to it. And I believe he's did just what he wanted. As you can see in the comments, the majority gets it.

It's meant to express emotion/perception(how he feels about the dance) and to create a reaction/transmit the perception (how he wants people to feel about the dance even before they watch it) That's why I said initially that it should not be taken literally in this case. English speaking people use impossible everyday, and so correctly, in hyperbole when talking about things they find shocking, mind blowing..or even outrageous. It doesn't mean they are lying.

As a poet, I receive Spiritual wisdom from tribal rituals, ceremonies and customs. Several years ago, while editing my last poetry collection, I feel into a trance and encountered a Shaman from the Dogon tribe. It was only a brief encounter but a few days later is when I learned of military activity near that region in Mali....😥 As I watched this ceremonial dance, it is my Divine Service to share with your People; the Universe honors those who praise the Most High 💓🌌💓. Many Blessings Shall Be Bestowed onto you💓

Every time I watch one of the amazing videos. It makes me more and more proud to be BLACK. Hold your head high BLACK PEOPLE. That's why we've been stripped of the knowledge of who we really are. Thank the most high, we're starting to wake up.

Benjamin Bannake a free African America born 1731, had great knowledge of Astronomy, around 1792 he made astronomical calculations that predicted the eclipse and planetary conjunctions, which was included in the almanc and ephemeris publications. He also built/invented the first wall clock from wood from precisely copying a borrowed pocket watch. This clock was meant to have been so accurate up until his death. He also helped formed Washington DC district from memory of locations in two days, from Ellicots plans. Though there is clear confusion of his background and he was born in America, some believe he came from the Dogon people due to his extensive knowledge of Astronomy.

These dancers are amazing and their regalia is so bright and colourful. To be able to dance on stilts is an incredible talent. The other dancers with long pokes on the top of their masks are also amazing.

The Dogon chief shook his head, took the interviewers bandana, took one corner, folded it to the other corner..... Einstein, Rosen, wormhole! Straight to the dark star, that wasn't even discovered until 1976, using the star chart on a cave wall! (Why isn't this being taught..?)

I know two people that reached this level of talent before their teen years and I was mesmerized and to my amazement they dropped the whole thing and do not play the drums!!
