Dear Claire - you helped reduce my anxiety about coloring skin, which I’ve avoided until now. I’m practicing in my sketchbook, but hopefully will conquer my reluctance and actually use one of my books soon.
Dear Claire, I just found your channel tonight. This is the 2d video that I have watched of yours. I am a subscriber now. I don't even know if you will see this comment since this video is really old. (Please never take it down). But, I hope that you do see this comment. 😊 You are amazing. I am a chocolate skinned woman, and you are so right. It is hard to make dark colored skin look realistic unless you are a professional. Anywho, you nailed it. I will be trying that one first. Then I will try all the other skin tones. I have friends in all 4 skin tone colors. 😊 May God bless you and your family continuely. Amen

Welcome to the channel!
Finally I coloured my first brown skin girl from the same book but another picture. I even did her body. I was not sure where the light will be on the body but I think I did very well. I am so please with it. I felt confident . Thank you so much. Now I will practice the other skin tones.
I learn so much from you. Plus I love listening to you talk, your British accent is calming to me.
wow finally.. have watched a lot of videos but no one explained it step by step they just do it and we watch. No concerns about boring me with repetition.. that's how most people learn. I will take this and even work with some of my own color combos. Thanks so much for taking all the time to show us this over and over was extremely helpful. really appreciate all the time and effort you put into this great job!
That's really nice. I'm an advanced colorist and I'm trying to learn how to color people and different skin tones and also hair as well. Nice video. Very helpful.
Thank you so much, I've colored all 4 in my book and they are a great reference!
Your tutorials are totally wonderful and so very helpful, Claire. Thank you so much for taking the time to help us out with the skin tones!!!
Hi Claire, I never liked coloring skin as a kid and have shied away from even buying books with people in them now. Your video has given me hope though and now I want to try coloring skin. Thank you so much!
You’re great, Claire. Lovely.Warm wishes from Minnesota! ❤❤❤
I’m always amazed on how well Prismacolors blend
Thank you. Happy Valentine's Day. 💓
Thank you! It may be a hard tutorial but you explained things very well. I think my problem is that I am afraid to go too dark in the shadow areas. Thanks for doing different types of skin in one video, the technique becomes more clear watching it done with different colors.
Great tutorial! I love your ring. Looks great with your other bands. Gorgeous.
I really appreciate all of your fantastic videos! Thank you for taking so much time and care on each one! I'm starting to see your tutorials all over, and I'm so happy for you!!

I really love this tutorial. You made it easy for us to follow with the verbal instruction and the close up . Now I know what I did wrong when trying to colour skin tone. I will definitely apply this to others books as well as this book. Thank you so much Claire 😘😘😘😘

I need a book of faces to practice on so I don’t waste beautiful pages on. There’s days I wonder if I’ll ever be able to pull this off but it’s not from lack of loving this hobby.
Always enjoy your videos - need more on blending Prismacolor. Take care , love your kindness!!
Thank you so much for this video! This is exactly what I was looking for. You explain very well so that a beginner like me can understand. Can't wait to start my first page 😊

It is a great help. Thank you.
This really helped me out as I usually just leave my characters skintone white.I used cheaper colours so while my result is kind of questionable, its much better on what I could do before. Thank you very much for this tutorial!
Thank you for this one! :)
I played this video 'on repeat" last night as I colored my first gray scale coloring page of a witch from a Nikki Burnett coloring book. Oh boy but your video was a great help. Thanks! I used your Arteza color pencil skin tone swatches as a guide.
Wonderful Tutorial. Thanks so much for sharing with us!! Hello from Milwaulkie, Oregon!
Very informative video! Can’t imagine the amount of work you might have put in to get this video together. Thanks for sharing it with us. Can I please request you to do one on different types of types of hair such as blond, brunette, dark hair?

Thanks for this Claire. could you give me the number of the Sandbar brown because I cannot see it in my prisma color box thanks.
Wow. I have done all four once. And are on my next round. The tanned look like an overdose self tanning lotion. Hey carrot... I think I know what went wrong. I using the new book from Jade Summer "favorite pages". I recommend this for practice. Good variety of pictures
Nice! Can you do one on how to color realistic noses? I struggle with that.

I was just thinking about that while I was watching the tutorial, these girls have no nose! That’s a very key area of a face!
Love this video it has helped me so much
Amazing 👏
I’d be interested to see you work on sculpting the faces and giving the noses some shaping and highlighting where the sun catches the faces.

This is just what I am looking for, some expert tuition with skin tones, I'm hopeless with faces, I keep trying and trying, but somehow I end up with a line where one colour meets another, guess I'm pushing too hard. (And I'm just the same with acrylic paint too lol). Just can't seem to get the hang of it. Tfs xo

I’ve had the same problem in general. I think the problem in general is when I don’t make it dark at first and then taper off with that color. Then when I add the next color it it needs to be started on the previous color. It then starts to blend better.
Have found the sandbar brown 😘
I love this video, being a beginner I have been trying to find more step by step skin tones, I did see you have a skin tone play list can this same concept be applied using other pencils like arteza or will those have to lay down a little different ?
@ColourwithClaire

Yes same concept applies
I'm very excited to add Hannah Lynn and Sherri Baldy to my collection in the next few weeks. I'm hoping these smaller scale faces can help me learn skin before I attempt it in my Hannah Karlzon books.
Hi Clarie. Your video is very helpful. I have a couple of Hannah Karlzon books but have not colored any pictures in them yet. There are a lot people in her books and I have never colored skin before. Can these techniques be used to color skin in those books also? Thank you again for sharing your videos and tips. Tracey

The darker skin one needed an orangish color if the goal was realism.
