Turning Your Boxing Drills into Slick Shadow Boxing
Спорт
Https://www.myboxingcoach.com - This is the final video in a series of 3 in which we work on ways of doing aggressive and defensive shadow boxing.
The first video • Aggressive and Defensi... described the concepts of aggressive and defensive boxing.
The second video • Boxing Drills for Aggr... gave you a series of boxing drills that enabled you to put those concepts into solid practice.
This video is about bringing those drills to life by bringing your aggressive and defensive boxing skills to your shadow boxing session.
Just as a refresher from the previous videos, we examined the science of defensive fighting and my 4 aspects that mark out quality defensive work:
1. Occupy the edge of range
2. Use triggers
3. Use a killer jab
4. Get comfortable with front foot pivots
We also covered my 5 components of super-effective aggressive boxing:
1. Be dynamic - occupy the edge of range
2. Use proactive defence
3. Volume and intensity
4. Rear foot pivot and lateral movement
5. Be inventive at close range.
Once you have the concept, then you've begun the process of building the muscle memory with the boxing drills, the final step is to execute - and your shadow boxing session is a great time to do that.
Round 1 of shadow boxing is defensive. Don't be afraid to dance around, it not only feels good but you also get the benefits of developing your upper and lower boy co-ordination. But you also then need to build into your shadow boxing the lead foot pivot, small foot movements and power shots on the retreat.
Rounds 2 and 3 of shadow boxing are about dynamic and effective aggressive boxing, mixing up the ranges from long range to close range and back again.
Shadow boxing is an activity that all boxers do. Some don't jump rope, some don't use speed ball, but all do shadow boxing. Enjoy it, and always look for ways of spicing up your shadow boxing...theming the session is a great way to do it.
Cheers
Fran

Thank you for your generosity. I’m teaching my 7 year old son the basics from your videos before I spend $100 hour for a coach... I broke my back at work so these videos teach him while I spot his faults. Thanks a million!!

Hello Kevin. Jeez, $100 per hour! Are there no amateur boxing clubs near you, that''d be the place to take him. Glad the videos help though, and I hope you are back up and active soon pal👍

That sounds horrible. I can’t imagine how terrible it would be to have some dad with a broken back screaming at you in a garage because you aren’t doing things the way the KZread video said.
When shadow boxing...any movement you make starts the same. A sinking of the body. When you pivot, think of a drill digging in. It has to dig in before it can start cutting. It needs to be imbedded. By sinking, you become more grounded. This Mans' advice...to be inventive, creative, innovative, is key.

Way to put it together coach 🤙🏼I find myself doing this all day long I do a drill on the aqua bag and when I’m back inside the house constantly reworking and fine tuning form. Or when I’m too tired or sore or the weather isn’t right I do it too just wishing I could work the bag😂

Pacquiao does that "controlled aggressive" shadow boxing, like going forward throwing punches and then he pivots or finds another angle, he does the same backward. Great video!

Hi Fran just a question on if a fighter has the opponent in trouble or knocked down in the first or second round.( Campbell V Garcia or MMA Usman v Burns last Saturday) I know it's early and the opponent is strong, fresh but are you not better going for broke while you have him in trouble as you invariably go on to lose the fight anyway when you back off and they have time to recover. Particularly Campbell as Garcia had never been knocked down, felt he missed the opportunity by being too cautious. Love your videos. Cheers, Kev

Hi Kev. When you land on someone, it all depends on how quickly the eyes clear. So a boxer can tell if an opponent is still stunned. If their body shape and eyes tell you they are not, then caution is always the best option I would suggest. I guess that Luke could see it was a knockdown but the after-effects were limited, he's clocked enough people to know :-). Cheers mate.
I can always use advice and I'm especially uncomfortable with shadow boxing. I have tried to think of it like katas except it doesn't translate. And it's not quite like drilling. I just feel stupid. 😂😂

It will come. I think the drills separately do over time support the ability to 'find flow' in your shadow 👍
Hyper aggressive attack and dancing all around in shadow boxing
Can you bounce while moving
hi Fran, i no longer have social media to contact you, i have attended the gym a few times, haven't been for a while (prior to covid regulations), will you upload a video at some point in the future for when your gym will be reopening so i can attend, thanks. 4x a week im doing training of my own, in the garden using the boxing bag going of your videos. Doing runs throughout the night etc. It's Connor by the way, if you remember me.
