As a computer repair engineer, I have recommended Norton to many clients and have installed it countless times on client hardware. I am now reconsidering this position in light of the annoying disrespectful way in which a ‘paid for’, previously respected product is being prostituted with cheap up-selling marketing through annoying pop ups.

Just like you, I have used Norton for years and years, and have been fairly satisfied with it, but this recent change with all these pop-up ads, pushing more of their products, is a major annoyance. This has become very, very annoying from Norton. Something else that needs to be mentioned is that if you disable auto-renewal and you open up Norton in my Norton view, not classic, it constantly covers half of your screen "reminding" you that auto-renewal is turned off. The only thing you can do is click on remind me later, which will hide that for about a week until it's displayed again. There is no option to say don't show me again. They are totally spamming people in paid software.

Shouldn't be bothered when you pay for stuff, that is a big turn off to software. Even if free, if there are too much pop ups. It doesn't make you want to pay for it, it just turns you away from it and basically uninstall it. Less ads for free version is better and no ads for paid owners, it really shouldn't be any other way or it just gets to be too much of annoyance. Sorry for rant, this update on Norton is just frustrating.

I have used Norton for at least 10 years, and as someone who repairs computers, I have never seen a computer protected by Norton have any 'virus' come through. The problem is that other scanners and installable anti-virus programs tend to have much higher rates of false positives. I also find that Norton offers protection against new threats sooner than most other consumer AV solutions.

I have been using Kaspersky Internet Security for years and been happy with it; however it is near renewal time so I looked to see whether there is a better deal and Norton 360 Deluxe looks promising. With international relations as they are I am also concerned that Kaspersky may be blocked in the US since it is Russian. I agree that I should be pestered with ads on paid software and appreciate this well organized and developed 'how-to' video. I plan to try Norton before my Kaspersky runs out and then decide whether to keep it.

You should check the pc security channel, it shows how Defender works vs malware and ransomware. While it's better than nothing, and with the cloud services it has greatly improved, it is still not that robust of a service yet. Remember, you are always fine until it happens to you. Just like all those people who refused to do windows updates back before Microsoft made them mandatory after the sasser worm.

Where I live we occasionally experience power (electricity) brown outs or failures. These are momentary as a rule - but Norton seems to always call me on my phone to alert me that there has been a "possible data breach". I have confirmed each time that the caller is actually from Norton (by asking for the case #, then hanging up and calling the Norton number from their website). The case # is real and the true Norton tech wants to explore my computer remotely. I decline of course, because the cause was an electrical failure. What gripes me is about this is the (extreme) level of monitoring it seems that Norton is doing. It feels a little creepy, stalkerish, big brother is watching nonsense. I've requested for those types of phone calls to stop - but Norton persists with it regardless. I'm not going to renew my license over this issue alone. After I research security alternatives, I might not even wait for the license to expire!! Suggests?

Loosing faith because of pop ups? Turn em off. Problem solved! At least they give us that option... Norton has been great. I've been using it for over 15 years and have never been hampered by any debilitating anomalies. And it's not just because "I use Norton". It's because I am careful and use common sense....

I've used Norton for over 15 years and the more features they ad, they worse it gets. It always quarantine my audio/music plugins I've used for over 20 years and I'm going to try another company.

That is what i do not like about Mcafee, constant ads and pestering. about to move away now, not a fan of norton though, tempted with Bitdefender, hopefully that is a good choice.

Im the sort of person who would call them them asking to cancel my sub and when they ask why i would say because you're spamming with with ad's on paid for software. And then i'll go and install malwarebytes

I wouldn't put Norton (or McAfee for that matter) anywhere near my PCs. Last time was was in the 1990s and I've yet to have a problem. This type of software is unnecessary these days, and I'm surprised you even give it air-time, Brian.

Keep on dreaming. If I see the number of virusses and trackers identified and blocked, then trusting windows firewall is *not* a good idea.

Norton has become malware in itself. Can't stand all of the sales pop-ups. I will be looking for a different anti-virus when my subscription expires. Does anybody have any suggestions for an alternative anti-virus? Thank you, your video is very good.
