Turbocharged Triumph Rocket III 0-150 MPH and more

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Wanted to try out the GoPro on my Rocket before rebuilding the engine. There is a compression problem causing excessive blow by and crank case pressure. Not sure how much power is being robbed. AFR is also off but this thing still moves!
When it's rebuilt I'll do another video where I'm actually trying to get the best possible 0-60 and 0-100 times. Didn't do that here but can tell by watching this that mid to high 2 second 0-60 and mid to high 5 second 0-100 times will be achievable. Not bad for an 800lb cruiser!
Note: since the camera is looking up at the speedo the speed is really a good 5 mph faster past about 80 or 90 mph. What looks like 100 is 105, 145 is 150 etc. etc. And unlike most KZread vids you'll see of people doing this my speedo is GPS calibrated, not 5 to 8% fast as all motorcycle speedos are from the factory making the bike seem quicker than it really is.
This is my first KZread video and first edited GoPro video just done with Movie Maker so nothing fancy. Would like to eventually sync two or three cameras and do multiple angle or PIP shots and some really nice editing.
And no, I don't ride like this all the time, especially if any cars are around, but with a GoPro stuck on the gas tank that was kind of the point.

@@exothermal.sprocket Most riders can't get their sports bikes to do 0-60 in 3 seconds or less. It takes a perfect launch. This bike does it without even giving it full throttle in 1st.

60 mph isn't that quick however. But I understand. It's more about the gearing of a particular bike than it is peak power. Most racetrack bikes have a stupid tall 1st gear which makes launching very difficult.

Having ridden this incredible machine, I can testify that it's as smooth as butter. The pull is so hard and fast that it blurs your vision. I always thought of it as the Caddilac of bikes. Incredibly balanced; nearly effortless to control . . . it's on a completely different level compared to other bikes.

@@brentmiller7901 The amount of torque the Rocket has is so strong, it pulls the 800lbs around as though it doesn't exist. I'm not sure that a person can comprehend this unless they actually ride it. The other remarkable aspect of this bike is that though you're up to 80mph in about two seconds, there is no feeling . . . at all . . . that you're about to fall off the back of the bike. That said, a person would be wise to offer you $22,000 - $25,000 for it. From Nova to Rocket . . . unreal.

Gotta ride one of these one day. The low end hit must be awesome. My 1000cc RR had about 100 pounds and 150 HP and just that felt like it had hellishly strong pull even in the low end, I can't imagine having 240 ft/lb. Please do be careful with this bike though. Even though it will match or even outdo a 1000cc in power it still doesn't have the frame of one for stability at high speeds.

Just as the rev counter goes red at about 6,500 revs, I'd put a little marker on the rev counter (maybe a little bright red dot) at the point where the front wheel begins to lift off the ground? --- rally car drivers have for many years marked the centre of the steering wheel with white tape as a visual reminder of when the wheels are facing straight ahead.

I have a rocket 3, owned it for 7 years. One thing I will say is that its very hard to take sharp corners on it, especially hairpins or slightly lesser corners. I ride mine in rural Scotland where the roads are very bendy and sharp, you have to take it easy on the corners there, you just don't know what lies beyond, mud or grit or some tractor parked just round the bend. Don't get me wrong I really know how to ride my rocket, its become second nature to me, but like I say it does not lean over as easy as one might think, after all its not a racing bike, and even if you do lean it over it will peg out very easily, and that can be dangerous. Its designed for cruising on the open road where it comes into its own, nothing will beat it there and I mean NOTHING! All in all, I would not part with it its such a thrill, and I have had many bikes in my life.

Not if you set it up properly. It requires extra fuel management hardware and software and has to be tuned just right on a dyno. I don't know of anyone making a kit anymore. You can get a supercharger from TTS in England and Carpenter Racing in the states does engine mods increasing HP without boost. They had a turbo kit in the works but I don't think it ever materialized. Join r3owners.net if you have not already done so. A wealth of information for R3 owners. Did you ever get this thing sorted? Would love to see a dyno chart

Yes I did. Runs very nice. Never made that much more power though so the cracked piston was not robbing too much power. I'm up to 214 hp and the torque had dropped a bit to around 220 but I"m no longer pissing oil out the crank case vent and look forward to riding this bike every summer. Have done a lot of other things to the bike as well. Will try and post a new vid this summer if I have the time. Here's a link to a dyno clip: drive.google.com/open?id=1aqtiTXtEN11Rvku2ZX0bUM3ScfkMtdMU

@@brentmiller7901 That's incredibly cool man. A bike that any rider would be lucky to own. I'll look forward to seeing that video if you're able to make it

+Gustavo de Almeida Carvalho Actually 20 MPG if driven hard like in the video but around 35 MPG on the open road just cruising.
