    I did NOT like it. I missed the crisp regular corn has. The texture was weird and make me feel like the corn was very overcooked. And the flavor was a no. There was no sweetness like I'm used to. So I felt like it was that cheap corn they use to feed farm animals.

    I grew up eating waxy corn. I prefer it because of the chew. We have this dish of corn cook in sticky rice and coconut milk top with shredded coconut and a peanut salt seasoning. It's seriously delicious! Always run out really fast at our local morning market. But fresh waxy corn used for the dish is so hard to find in the States. The last time I had a proper version of it was 10 yrs ago. I dream about it sometimes 😢

    When one of these grows from a crop of yellow corn, we call it king corn, its not eaten, instead its left to dry and used in decorations sort of like wreaths, my grandpa had a really pretty one, hanging above the fireplace, I'm from Portugal and these are old cultural traditions I was told about growing up, it was fun to go hunting for a king corn after the harvests, some even said it was lucky to find it, good memories 😊

  • @dalishrogue3621

    @dalishrogue3621

    25 күн бұрын

    @@apachejano1872 🤓 actually purple corn is native to South America specifically while corn in general seems to of originated in southern mexico. The name of purple corn is kʼculli in Quechua, as it was grown by the Inca. But yes, purple corn has appeared all over the Americas due to genetic variety of the plant but Incas grew maíz morada specifically into its own classification. So yes, you might find purple corn elsewhere but it is not necessarily maíz morada. Basically what you just said was “well you see chihuahua like breeds all over the world!” Just because one thing looks like something else does not make it the same thing 😊

    @@dalishrogue3621 you literally just said what I did .. maize morada literally means purple corn .. and all corn really comes from Mexico.. the first varieties of purple corn comes from Mexico as well... Just because the maize morada variety comes from peru , doesn't mean all purple varieties comes from peru . This particular corn probably comes from Japan or China , it is not maize morada because maize morada is a flour corn , and isn't the color of corn shown in this video .. they bred a purple waxy variety on purpose a long time ago in Asia , after the Portuguese and Spanish brought corn from the Americas .. all I'm saying is it's hard to tell where a corn variety originally comes from because there are many that look similar that come from different places..

    Waxy corn is common in Africa. Like really common. And it’s often roasted because it holds up really good to a bbq. Also non waxy form is common, but that is usually boiled because it has a sweetness to it. A good way to boil waxy corn is with a pressure cooker, it softens it easier.

    Here in Brazil we eat regular corn but boiled like this, not roasted, I am surprised seeing it's not that common outside of my country! 🖤

    Heat it on fire directly until the top of the kernels look a little burnt and put some green chilli based seasoning on it. No butter. That stuff is gold.
