Спорт
Today we take a (my) first look at the Trulap 8592 adjustable dumbbells. These have been making the rounds with reviewers, so wanted to share some of my own thoughts.

Great review, Brandon! These seem ok, but I've yet to see this style of dumbbell that I would personally buy for my home gym. I think the cradle is a little off-putting, but also the fact that they are fragile makes them impractical. I mean, you're likely to eventually drop them at some point (whether it's within the warranty window or not). Btw, I probably would've made the same mess unboxing these lol.

I would say that you might appreciate two adjustable sets (if you already had). I had an original Stairmaster Adjustable (basically the Core one) to 50 lbs) but bought the powerblock to 90 - in part due to ability to upgrade further. But I use both on supersets (especially if supersetting lighter exercises such as lateral raises with dumbbell rows). Just saying it might be worthwhile to consider keeping a second set.
This or the pepin fast series? I know the pepin goes heavier, but overall feel and build? And which would you use if you could only have 1of them?

I'm in the market for adjustables, and it's a tough decision. Would totally go for the Pepin Fast Series but for the price point ($1,743 USD for the 2 X 100), not to mention that they're on a 10-week production lead time. So it's basically between these and the Ironmasters (of the handle-adjustable types, I don't see any reason to pick the Nuobells or Snodes over the Trulap). Basically it somes down to whether the quality, durability and dropability of the IMs outweighs a 30-second change time, vs. what looks to be less than 5 seconds with the Trulaps.

Most DBs don't have very aggressive knurling in my experience.
@AntonioMikhailov
11 ай бұрын
From what I understand, it's because the knurling process puts a lot of force on the steel. Better knurl requires more force. Since adjustable dumbbells use hollow tubes, it won't be able to withstand the machining.
The dropping issue seems like a major flaw...id rather them take the time and make them drop resistant at least even if they cost more up front, its still cheaper than a voided warranty and buying a new dumbbell. I like to train to failure so something like a flat bench trying to get back up can be a pain and dropping them 6" to 12" can happen and can be concerning.

I dont understand why they dont just make one set of dumbbells to 110 pounds and then another set that starts at 115 and goes to 220 that way the internal rods are long enough that way you could cover everything with only two sets of dumbbells instead of trynna make these super heavy dumbbells all in one it makes it to vulunerable to dropping or you need caged dumbbells to get very heavy just have a light set and a heavy set its still just as convienient and people can get the second set when they outgrow the first set on some movements

I think it's a limitation of the mechanism being able to support and the dbs remaning a managable size.
So, plastic in the internal mechanisms that make it work and voided warranty if gets dropped?... Pepins are nicer but awfully expensive. Ironmasters will last forever even with abuse but IMO are glorified spin locks. So I still prefer Powerblocks as well for a true quick change set that is still reasonably durable and affordable. My U-90s are over 10 years old and still work like new. But there is definitely room for improvement. I may pick up some Average Joe stainless handles for them.

There is hardly any complaining lol.
These are just another low effort Alibaba special where at first one company can buy a few thousands units for 80 dollars a piece and try to make some quick money before there are 20 other “companies” doing the same thing. Fitness companies are getting so lazy and it’s just a race to who can get the slightly different design out to market the fastest with no effort. I’m getting tired of the nonsense weight increments, minimal effort into improving the instruction manuals, and price for such thoughtless products. Even there website is dishonest. They have a materials section and they only list cast iron, aluminum, and stainless steel used for the dumbbells but like you said there is plastic in them… what a shady company IMO.

I think for people who are serious about strength training I'd agree, I think the issue is however a lot of those people would want different dumbbells.
They dont seem to do anything better than existing adj. dumbbells nor do they do something different. Bummer.

They go heavier, which I think is peoples biggest concern with the nuobells.
@Hellbull89

They go heavier + the weight increments are smaller than most other adjustable dumbbells. In Europe they are 1.5kg increments, which admittedly makes more sense than the 3.78 or whatever lbs they label it as in the US.
If you cannot handle the weight to put them back on the rack, and have to drop them, they are too heavy for you.

@@BasementBrandon . Actually no. Just set the bench at a 10’ degree angle. Problem solved and it reduces the strain on your shoulders. Flat and a 10 degree angle provide the same muscle stimulation without injuring your shoulders. As a former top NPC competitor who trained with more than a few pros back in the 1990s I regularly pressed with heavy dumbbells without injury. Yes, heavier than the 150s. Just because you cannot do doesn’t mean others cannot who know what they are doing. Never had to drop the dumbells unless i was doing drop sets.

@@chelious1973 Incorrect. Just b/c you have the opinion does not make you right. I could make the argument if you have to set the bench at a 10 degree angle, then the weight is too heavy for YOU.

I think you have to remember that buying a full set of dbs is always more pricey and takes up more space. You could get loadable dbs for less, but a lot of people don't want to have to deal with loading/unloading.

@@Joji_14you do you bro. If you think 3 sets of dumbells is enough, I don't know what to tell ya. Guessing you don't ever see any strength gains over time, or do many exercises with them. You can do hundreds of different exercises with dumbells, and to say that you feel that just 3 different weight sets is all you need is a bit silly. But if you are just looking to maintain fir a few muscle groups, it can work I guess.
