    I got these last week. I do think they're great. They could definitely make a heavier set just by filling in the hollow spaces on these, if REP wanted to do that. I also bought some narrow self-sticking weather seal (3/8" width, 3/16" thick) and put it on just the part below the lock. In most movements, it significantly reduced the jiggle (nearly eliminated it on the lower weight), which is kind of annoying that it only took $5 at Lowe's to fix it.

    I never dropped a dumbbell either. Until one day I did. Just getting into position for bench like I had a thousand times before I was a little careless, lost the balance and down they went. My Powerblocks were fine, but I was a bit rattled. All dumbbells should be able to withstand some drops because if you use them a lot you probably will drop them at some point.

    I would prefer to get drop resistant dumbbells but those arent available in Europe. The company Atletica offers 40kg (88lbs) adjustable dumbbells called Switch with a similar mechanism to Nüobell but according to them, their internals are made out of metal and they offer 5 years of warranty. I think i will buy those since Snodes, Peppins and REPs arent available and hope for the best.

    I live close to a Rep showroom so I was able to get these with a 10% no ship discount. So far so good. Changing weights is a breeze and they feel good. Should be bulletproof. I train at a commercial gym but use a pair at home for extra arm/forearm/shoulder work so capping out at 60lbs won't be a problem for a long time, if ever. I agree with what others have said and would look to a separate pair of ironmasters if I wanted to go heavier. You could still use the Reps (or something similar) for warmups and the ironmasters for working sets. Heavy dumbbell work is more niche than the internet makes it out to be but I'm happy the heavier versions are coming out for those that want/need them.

  • @plmn93

    @plmn93

    5 ай бұрын

    True, but I found that as I got older I liked using dumbbells more for heavy work since they put my wrists, elbows, and shoulders in more ergonomic positions than a bar, which helped recover from and prevent further injury. I also bought the PhenoX Maverick Bar that Gluck reviewed over a year ago and that's even better since there's less risk of injury while getting into position or failing a lift. So I could go lighter again with dumbbells, but I simply enjoy using them.

    I have a question that I've been throwing out every single time I see the rotating handle adjustable dumbbells, I still haven't gotten a proper answer on it maybe you can give me one. If I was to do a clean and jerk or snatch would the rotation of the movement actuate the dumbell possibly raining plates everywhere?

  • @GlucksGym

    @GlucksGym

    5 ай бұрын

    It shouldn't because they require the cradle to rotate. The cradle has a piece that sticks out and pushes a button that allows the weights to be changed.

  • @BrandonSchwartz1

    @BrandonSchwartz1

    5 ай бұрын

    The internals for Nuobell is just a small piece of plastic stopping the rotation. I’m sure if you yanked it hard enough there’s a small chance of it breaking eventually. I’d stick with a fixed handle or even a loadable sleeve that spins for those types of movements if you’re apprehensive

    Switched from Powerblocks to these after 6 years and am overall glad that I did. My biggest complaint is figuring out the weight changes at 2.5 lbs. Doing 12.5, 22.5, etc “makes me question my intelligence” as he says and I always put them on a scale to be sure. I’m not super smart, but it’s definitely something that takes some getting used to. Love them otherwise though!

  • @JoshuaLTRyan
    @JoshuaLTRyan5 ай бұрын

    If I didn't have power-blocks already I'd go for these. Rep is quite good at finding the sweet spot between quality and cost IMO. Also for heavier than say 70lbs I probably don't want adjustables at that point. I'm at 70 with the power blocks and when I need heavier, I'll probably just buy a set of 80's and 90s rather than get the additional add on, probably.

    I like my U-90s. The adder weights are kind of annoying but you already have those at 70 so I think you wouldn't have any issue with them. I am thinking of putting some Average Joe stainless steel knurled handles on them though. Not really a fan of the bulging rubber.

    Great review. I like them but 60lbs is far too small if 80 I might have bought them and 90 perfect! I have Baadass with magnetic pins for heavy and ordered 2 months ago Trulaps 8-92lb for lighter weight. I love how small and TIGHT the Baadass are, almost unbreakable and feel perfect in the hand.

    I have a set of Core Fitness adjustable (Nuobell clone) that I bought a while back, so I don't need these. If I didn't already have a pair, I would probably go with these over the competition.

    I’m not sure if they use kettlebells enough to be able to review them well Check out Mark Wildman on KZread he’s a good KB resource. I’ve been kettlebelling for 4 years now with fixed competition style pairs from 8kg up to 24kg in 4kg jumps but if I was to start over I would have definitely got the bells of steel adjustable competition kb the Wildman edition as it has much smaller jumps in weight (0.5 and 1 kg jumps) compared to the other ones out there.

    Wildman is one of my wubs. (heavy clubs too) I've got hardstyle bells the full collection, just thought it might be an itneresting idea. and yeah, i like the small jumps. not a big deal on swings, but a big deal on bottoms up press (for example). @@kumbazzz

    I had these on order but canceled them for the Snodes... I doubt that I will ever drop them from over 30in and the 5# magnet weight isn't a deal breaker for me... However, wanting to do 75# incline db presses and my weight only going up to 60# is a deal breaker 😂

    I love the design and how they look. The fact that you can just buy the replacement plates is a plus. However, the dumbbell looks too bulky for just 60 lbs. I would wait for the 120lb ones and hope that they aren't super long.

  • @BoiseTriathlete
    @BoiseTriathlete5 ай бұрын

    I’ve had these for a while. Silly that I had to do the exact same thing and use an oil based paint pen to color the weight markings. I was worried that with the V design on the outside of the plates it would be uncomfortable resting on the thighs between sets, but no issues there. I wish Rep would offer a stand for them. I was told their solution is to put them on the floor since they are flat on the bottom 😂 Overall, good buy and you get a killer warranty and great quality for the price. They are not nearly heavy enough for some exercises, but there are plenty where they are just fine
