Every time I see facial reconstructions I always think it would be so cool to have yourself be scanned with an MRI to get a digital copy of your skull and have them do a reconstruction and see how close it is to how you actually look.

Probably too much emphasis on real science, history and factual knowledge rather than 'ancient aliens', 'conspiracies' or 'goverment secrets', leading to the series having not enough viewers to be viable.

@@albagubrath9073 I have heard experts in other disciplines on other programmes explain that they often employ terms which would be more familiar to some viewers than the proper terminology would be. And I do find your rather haughty demeanor troubling. After all, this is a programme whose first intent is to ENTERTAIN, as opposed to EDUCATE. It is unkind to state that such an error or oversight is SO egregious as to warrant the show's being discontinued.

@Anne. Somezimes documents get lost, like in WW1snd 2, sometimes refugees leave everything behind, like my grandparents and parents when they fled. How many documents do you think survive in ucrainia right now? Britain is exceptional in its painstaken recording of everything.

I found this so interesting. My mother and her family were from Ipswich. My DNA actually shows a small trace of North African DNA.

In the first quarter of this video, but I feel that he may have been part of a Roman invasion or there was one famous black warrior, I believe his name was Mark or Marcus. Black moors were Muslims, so it wasn't just that they were black but also that they were Islamic. That is why Elizabeth thought to many were there. That document I am well aware of, to much to be misled to believe the only issue was race. Also, north African would look more like the Egyptians than what we call African usually.

I would have liked the team to take this case one step further, and suggest a cause for that abcess in that particular spot...very odd spot for infection. Did he back into something sharp? Did he fall, causing an injury? I'd wish to know that, for this man's case to be fully closed...

@@alanatolstad4824 spinal abcesses are unfortunately not rare. Definitely uncommon. But if there is only the bone indication with no remarkable marking like TB or syphilis, then the cause can only be hypothesised. Staphylococcus, tetanus, e.coli etc could be causes

I so agree I never tire of this show. Wish there were more. I found it informative of the era in time what it showed toward the Skelton and what happened to that Skelton. Then create how he looked in life. How the bones gray the teeth and on and on.

Quite interesting. I enjoy this series. One note though, (being a silhouette artist myself) on this one is that I'd have liked to see the reconstructed face rotated around far enough to see his profile. The short arc of rotation (front to three quarters view) was repeated several times, so why not go around further, possibly all the way around?

I pause the video to google what a Friar is and if I had watched a few seconds more they would’ve explained it a bit 😂

Unforgivable? It seems like all nations could probably be accused of that but to me the real question is do our societies grow and learn from some of these horrors? I see a lot of change in some countries from then until now and it’s a shame that so many of us cannot look at where we’ve come honestly and say, “we have learned a lot” and not condemn our ancestors...because they all had learned from what came before too.

They did, and he's a history professor.. they look almost identical, except for his descendant is Caucasian. Makes me wonder if this man was really African American or they just guessed? He could've grew up in Africa and not been African American.

@@reneecaballero9624 they looked at his skull and the isotopes of where he grew up and it was found that he was definitely North African. It would not have been a guess because movement during the medieval period was difficult. He would not have been African American though as that is purely an American construct and America did not exist for a few more centuries.

I would have liked to see the reconstruction with a couple different skin and eye color options, the final version looked a little bit too light, so light that he wouldn’t have stood out at first glance among a lineup of contemporary Ipswich-born locals as suggested. And his eyes looked almost green as opposed to the expected dark brown.

There would have been people of all different shades from at least the Roman occupation on. Even septum’s Severus the Roman Emperor was of Mixed heritage, North African and Syrian. And even possibly from the middle to end of the Bronze Age. As a Tin from Cornwall has been found in shipwrecks on the coast of Cyprus. During trade, on a large scale, there would be a person acting as a factor for the buyer.

Apparently I have 1% African in me from my test. No idea how that got there or when but never knew about it. Maybe from my Mexican side? This coming from a girl that looks like Snow White. Now I want to know where that one percent came from, wish Ancestry told you stuff like that, like approximate ranges of time.

I’m hunting a stray Jew in The Shenandoah Valley. Lol. I even know WHERE it almost certainly had to have happened and I can’t figure out who it is!

@@genli5603 I'm trying to build a family tree, unfortunately I have two great grandfathers that are a total mystery, both immigrated to the US and ancestry doesn't have a lot of records aside from Elise Island. I do know my 2 or 3x great grandparents owned a plantation until the Civil War, maybe even longer but my grandmother never met them. But other than that speculation.

@@katiebug31426 Are you going to trace beyond immigration to America? I've noticed this weird thing where Americans trace their ancestry to a country in Europe and stop at that. Who were their people before they moved? I have 2 ancestors who emigrated. One went to Australia and one went to America. Both of these individuals went back to England and had families. The Australian was a teenager when he was shipped to a penal colony and as soon as he did his time, worked to get the money to go home. On my Mum's side of the family, the American had a younger sister who was widowed with almost a dozen children. He went back to take care of them. But if we only traced these two to their immigration, we wouldn't know that we're more Irish than English and have quite a bit of Swedish ancestry. Or the stories that come with them.

I have traced my maternal grandparents families to Spain and New Spain, expect for one great great grandfather that is a total mystery before he came from Ireland to America, he died when my great grandmother was 4. I was trying to see about a family legend that my Papa told me about an ancestor that was a general for Cortes. My grandfather's father bounced when he was a baby so I have no one to ask about that side but I did get his parents immigration from Germany until the trail ran dry. My American family branch goes all the way back to the revolution and apparently had family on both sides of the civil war. I haven't had time recently to continue since I'm in grad school but hopefully I can start that free trial, 14 days could give me a lot of information.
