Tru-Cool 40k trans cooler in 2001 GMC Sierra

After installing a yank ss3600, to keep my
4L60e trans temps cool I decided to install a bigger cooler. I wasn’t sure how to mount it, or what issues I’d run into, so I figured I’d document for anyone else that might be looking to upgrade. Went pretty well, took less than an hour, and
hopefully this video helps someone else!
After the first initial drive, 90 degrees out and the transmission never saw past 140 degrees.

Mounted upside down. The trans doesn’t have enough pressure to fill the cooler past the first inch or two while mounted with the fittings facing down. The goal is to allow the fluid to fill it completely then pressure pushes cooler fluid out

Always double clamp oil lines, flaring slightly help keep it from sliding off. Or use compression fittings, to a pipe thread and use a threaded hose barb

What did you use to cut the trans lines?

My truck has the 4.8 and the trans cooler is in the radiator. I have a k&n intake and filter, and I have side burner exhaust (local exhaust shop did it) I don't have a temp gauge but I notice it gets funky shifting when it's warm after 30-40 miles. I also tow a 3k# boat and I'm considering adding an external cooler, and use the original in series. So essentially double cooled. Do you have any opinion or advice in this situation?

Did you have to bypass the radiator?

Nice video. Mine has no cooler so I bought one at a junkyard that I’m going to put on. Should I just get a aftermarket one? All mine is getting is headers/exhaust and a bully dog
