The way the factory Transmission cooler system works is... The Hot fluid from the trans (front fitting on the trans) runs to the cooler first... It goes out of the cooler then runs into the top port of the Radiator... It goes out the bottom of the Radiator (where it is now cooled) and to the rear port of the Transmission. The Idea of it running through the cooler to the radiator is to "normalize" the fluid temps on both the coolant and the radiator. Lets put it this way... if you get stuck in traffic on a hot day and you just have the Front mounted cooler... you have only the airflow from you fans that have to make it through the radiator and ac condenser... your trans temps will climb. If you run it through the radiator after the cooler now you have the radiator doing the work. I have done it both ways with my Suburban 2500 towing a 6k trailer daily and having both the radiator and the cooler work the best in all situations. I would keep it running through the radiator.

@dsmitteh you are wrong. Start your engine cold, then check the Temps on the lines top and bottom. The hottest line after a minute or two is your supply line. Usually, the top, not the bottom. Manufacturerers run it to the top first because heat rises.

@Robby Pro Guess every truck 99-07.5 Silverado or Sierra I've flushed, or added an auxiliary trans cooler to, someone before me hooked it up wrong. My return line has always been the top.

I bought the same cooler for my 1988 Ford F250 diesel pickup. My truck has the C6 Ford transmission, those transmissions are a lot less prone to overheat and failure than the new 4L60E, but I figure it's cheap insurance so it makes sense. You can also run it in tandem with the factory cooler in the radiator which is what I did. They can be used on a bunch of applications. And, it is just that easy to install.

The cooler is supposed to go after the radiator cooler/heater. You need to connect it in line because you want the trans fluid to warm up and flow better in really cold weather and you want to return the coolest fluid back to the trans from your new bigger cooler.

Jose Flores Great. Just installed mine. Went great. Honestly hardest part was mounting the damn thing.. hahah. I ran through radiator as well. Running cool now. Average temp of 150-160 in 80f outside temps. In the morning I’m as low as 140f in hour long drives. Also installed a 160 thermostat to keep the engine running cooler overall. Engine temp now 190. I before was runnin 200 trans and 210 engine. My 2007 Chevy Silverado 1500 z71 RWD, on 18” wheels with 33x12. I highly recommend these coolers coupled with the thermostat!
