    These are great videos. I'm curious... you mess with your drag the whole time you are fighting fish. I've never seen this before. What's the strategy?

  • @AdventureChasing

    @AdventureChasing

    2 жыл бұрын

    We will just go by the feel of the fight. If it feels like the line is straining when the fish goes on a run, we loosen the drag. If it feels too loose when we are reeling in, we tighten it. It just helps us lose less fish

    How do you make sure the weather and waves are safe for this type of fishing boat? What are you recommendations as far as maximum waves and swells for a boat like that? I'm hurting to get my 16 ft aluminum Lund boat out there, but intimidated as to what the boat can handle in Lake Michigan.

    If the wind forecast is more than 5-10mph I won’t travel offshore. If it’s calm then I go out and as soon as it starts to get rough I don’t push my luck and head back in👍 I wouldn’t be out there in this boat in more than 2-3’ waves

  • @AdventureChasing

    We like to run mono leader instead of a snubber because it seems to help land more fish. We run it long so there is more stretch in the line and a stealthier presentation!

    Salmon make fast hard runs and I like to use 17lb test leaders. Seem to get more bites with lighter line. When you’re trolling long lines that are heavy (lead core and copper) and you have a planner board attached (especially when there are waves) if your drag isn’t set perfect when a salmon goes on a hard run you’ll snap them off. So I always like to make sure my drag doesn’t stick.

    @@AdventureChasing I use 20lb main attached to 1/2 to 4ounces of weight ,then a flasher with 20lb leader and a double herring rig and don’t usually bust them off they usually toss the barbless hook lol. We also don’t use planer boards unLess on the Columbia River where there is enough room. Thank you for the response and fish on
