    I had the big XE. Crackin bike. I got the suspension set up from a suspension specialist. What a difference. However, it made the bike higher. I was gonna do the Tec lowering mod but after nearly falling off a few times when stopping as I was struggling to put my foot down, I part ex'd it for a new Africa Twin. The AT seat height was lower. I couldn't believe it but it was. A couple of things to watch out for on the XE... the left hand cluster joy stick failed twice on 2 seperate units. The spring failed. Quite common Triumph told me. Same issue on the Rocket. Also, watch when parking it out on a hot day. The sun's rays cracked the top glass section of the TFT! Seriously... and it is bloody expensive to replace as you need to replace the TFT!!!. If you park in strong sunlight, throw a microfibre cloth over the TFT. It will save you a fortune. I got the bar end mirrors from Tec. They are really good. I also got the same smoked front fly screen. Do you think Triumph leave that big ugly cable there so you buy the screen to hide the cable? I must say, I really loved the big XE. Once I got the suspension done it gripped the road like a new born monkey. It was awesone fun. Just too tall for me in the end so had to change. Yours is looking great Del. This XE series is bringing back great biking memories👍

    Hi Cam, great to hear your story mate, and sorry you sold your Triumph... I have heard a lot of comments about the over tall suspension, and even at 6ft it was still a little lofty for me, so I've thrown on a set of the TEC keeper springs now and dropped the forks in conjunction with that, and it's 100% better, flat foot down now and actually more stable at speed, it used to roam about the road over 80mph, now it sits planted... thanks for the kind words of warning on the TFT, I haven't heard that one, but I can totally understand that they're vulnerable, it would be no grief at all to slip a buff over it on a sunny day... I have seen a protective film you can buy to go over the top of the glass so maybe I'll look in to that as well... and you're dead right, I think Triumph are very cheeky not including that screen... the back of the dash is ridiculously vulnerable... imagine following another dirt bike along a fire road, it would get totally blasted to death and do a lot of damage! I can conclude only, like you, that it's a cheeky way to sell accessories... we expect that from Harley, but not something I'd expect from Triumph!

    I have the same "windscreen" (genuine Triumph accessory, and Triumph must be extremely proud of their accessories judging from their pricing scheme) on my Scrambler 1200 XC. As a windscreen, it's utterly useless, but at least it covers-up the tape-wrapped mess of a wiring harness and prevents it from becoming an insect graveyard. It's much easier to give the "windscreen" a spritz with glass cleaner and a wipe than it is to pick bug carcasses out of the wiring harness on the back of the TFT. Would it have killed the engineers at Triumph to find a better/more visually appealing way for the harness to exit the back of the TFT? Although, it appears that on model years following the 2019, Triumph did neaten things up a bit.

    Not sure if you're aware Paul, there is a much bigger screen available from Triumph if you want something that's effective for rider protection, but you're right, I think this one is just a bug screen!

    @@Moonfleet41 LOL I'm content with the purpose the current screen serves (concealing the nest of wires exiting the back of the TFT and keeping the bugs out of the same nest). If I really wanted protection from the wind, I would have bought something other than the Scrambler. 👍

    Beautiful bike! Having watched your work for a while, your shop, bikes, tools, just the entire environment is annoyingly clean! Someday i hope to own a bike that's new enough the manufacturer hasn't discontinued all the original factory accessories for HAHAHA I'm not sure if i would be a huge fan of the headlight guard as it would stop me from cleaning and wiping down the lens as effectively but still understand it might save some potential road damage in the long run.

I’m really loving my 1200xe. I part ex’d my SpeedTwin for it which was also a beautiful machine. I somehow feel safer on the scrambler. Maybe it’s the higher riding position and it’s road presence. Thanks mate, I will be doing the bar end mirrors for sure, dealing with the big bits first... have you thought of lowering yours slightly with the TEC softer keeper springs... it stands the same height on the sidestand, but sinks an inch lower on the road... makes it way more stable for street use and I know the XC is lower, but this way I get all the extras of the XE in a more street-able bike... give it a thought mate, they're not expensive!

    Love your content as always, but I thought I’d ask before you’ve finished working on the scrambler. Can you put the thruxton RS cam into this bike to potentially take it to 100 hp? I’ve never seen anyone do it on this over cam set up before, it would be a great video.

  • @Moonfleet41

    @Moonfleet41

    Жыл бұрын

    Interesting comparing the stats of both bikes side by side on Bikez. The Thruxton makes pretty much the same peak torque but needs 300 more rpm to do it.. and yeah, it does make another 14bhp at the top end and again needs that extra 300rpm to do it... so i would wonder what figures the Scrambler motor makes by revving it out another 300... i wonder if it would make the same as the Thruxton?.. after all bhp is acheived through revs ! More interestingly, id love to see a Dyno run printout for both engines, see exactly what the torque curves look like, id bet the Scrambler is making more grunt lower down, and that's way more relevant than top end wizz wouldn't you agree mate ?

  • @ejoemoto

    @ejoemoto

    Жыл бұрын

    @@Moonfleet41 definitely agree! After owning both the Bonneville Speedmaster (HT) and the Scrambler EX (HP) and riding the Thruxton RS, they all put the power down in different ways and as much as the scrambler was pretty happy getting the front end up (😏) I wondered if it had more rpm to really get that higher rpm range to give more of that upper power “grunt” to play around a bit more… I do miss the Scrambler, I still think it’s the best motorcycle I’ve ridden so far! This has just been a wondering thought. Cheers for the response though sir, much appreciated! 👍🏻

    What was the curing time for the mudgaurd extender. We use a lot of double sided tape on our aircraft interior monuments, things like trip strips, protective rubstrips etc etc, and they al have spec for use, the ds tape usually being 24 hours to fully adhere. Do they have curing times on the Triumph website?. It`s vitally important to allow the adhesive the correct amount of time to fully cure, otherwise you could go down the road and your expensive accessory goes bouncing down the road. I think after watching this, you would`nt need to download their instructions, you`ve made it look so easy.

  • @Moonfleet41

    I have to agree Bob, accessories a big business though, i think Harley Davidson are maybe the most blatant and guilty of it.. almost selling you half a bike so you can "personalise" it... and of course the other motivation is so the factory can compete with the aftermarket companies and net that profit too, while using the rather unfair brag that these are "Factory approved" accessories and therefore "warrantied"..! when plenty aftermarket accessories are actually way better that OEM stuff.! it's all about profit mate.. first and last aye..!!!

    It's a fabulous bike mate, in a upcoming video I'll be lowering the suspension and the handling is just like a road bike on the street, enourmous amounts of torque low down and really agile... I'd say at least go and ride one, if you can, and try it for yourself!
