I love the videos, but this one does not make sense to me. I would just spray light with soapy water and agitate with brush, then clean water and either use compressed air or air dry. I do not see the need to do all that. Still a great video to watch!
Could you not have just bought a few detail brushes? It would only take an extra 10 seconds while you're cleaning the bike
I also have a Scrambler 1200 with the Triumph accessory headlamp grill fitted. Fantastic bikes, at six foot three inch and eighteen stone I can ride a modern classic without looking like a bear riding a tricycle 🤣. Cleaning isn't an issue, spray the headlamp with Muc Off or Silkolene Wash Off, let it soak for a short while then use an Oxford Big Softie Wash Brush with some warm water and a good car shampoo through the grill. Easy Peasy!!!

"bear riding a tricycle" Quote of the day Dave.! 🤣 Sounds like a bike made perfectly for your frame.. at just 6ft and a fsir bit lighter than you i still found it a touch too high.. not many bikes do that !
To be honest I’d just use a soft detailing brush through the mesh to clean the headlights 🤷♂️
I’ve just fitted the Triumph accessory headlight guard to the Scrambler 900. This is fastened by two screws into a replacement bezel. This is easily removed for cleaning. Why they can’t do the same for the 1200 puzzles me. Great video as always 👍

Me too mate.. doesn't make sense aye !
They definitely didn't have their thinking caps on with that piece, eh? This would have been a good place to integrate the Sportster's brass bits with a thin bit of braze on the backing plate to fill in the cutoff wheel's thickness, although that would have been much work to dress the brass down square to fill the kerf from the wheel for very little return. If you had a similar shaped stainless bit you could have made a bracket sandwich, maybe even engrave 1200 or Triumph on the outside piece of the sandwich. Even if this is the final product, it's far more useful than the way Triumph sent it out the door. Take care, you two :)
I think Triumph was thinking the average person would just spray some good cleaning chemicals on the light and hose the dirt off as I have for years on my off road truck
@Moonfleet41
Жыл бұрын
Quite right, but imagine the trolling if one was to advocate spraying chemicals on a plastic headlight... and there is the weak link, if this was a glass light I would, like you, clean it that way, but as it's a soft plastic lens, easily susceptible to scratching and bloom, I think that gentle cleaning will hopefully make it last a little longer, specially with the price of replacements on these units.
Funny, the OE headlight cover accessory for the other liquid cooled Bonnevilles is removable with two screws attached to the headlight bezel. So Triumph clearly thought of this but promptly forgot when designing the accessory for the Scrambler.

I think you're right Louis !
A fine example of shop fabrication! I do like the "industrial" fastener look as well. Great job!
Why didn't they have a clip on one side and a hinge on the other ? For the amount Triumph charge for genuine accessories you would think they could do better.
It would be funny if Triumph comes out with a new version of their headlight grill. If they are not watching your videos then they should be. Another case of a craftsman adding what engineers have forgotten. Good job Del. Penny should be an optometrist. Somehow I can see things more clearly in your videos than I can in real life. 😁🤓 Thanks and blessings to you both. ❤👍👍

Thank you so much Rick, that's very kind of you... I believe on one of the other models they do make the grill able to screw on independently to the light bezel without disturbing the headlight, so on this model I'm not sure why it was so badly thought out... but like you said, a simple fix! Have a great week there, be safe and well, D&Px
Del, Vise Grips 10R. Bought mine in 1976. Had to change a starter solenoid in -8 C weather. Bracket kept twisting in removing the heavy gauge starter cables. Clamped the bracket with the Vise Grip 10R and removed the nuts with a 3/8 drive socket. My girlfriend said wow you're smart. I said no, if I owned the vise grips at the start it would have been a 5 minute job not a 1 hour shopping trip. HaHa. Nice outcome on the rock shield. Take Care, Ride Safe.

Where would we be without Vice grips aye.. Thanks for sharing ! Ride safe too mate .
Not all designs of triumph parts are by triumph engineers, outsourcing today takes many forms, if companies could outsource your loo time so you don't have to go to the loo they would figure out how to do it.

Ha ha.. True !
Because with soap 🧼and a clean paper you could clean it 😂 But good job Sir
Sometimes, strangely, these big companies need the little guy to do their thinking for them. Nice job Del.

Yeah, you're right, in fact i think, when you look at many accessories in dealer catalogues today... then thumb through a few back copies of BSH from a few years ago... things start to look suddenly familiar... lol.. if you get my meaning.!
Much simpler to just cut the guard's eyelet to an open-ended spanner shape, no?
@Moonfleet41
Жыл бұрын
But then you'll Still have to back off the headlight mounting bolts quite a bit and upset the headlight aim as it will inevitably move !
A nice little touch and totally agree on the cleaning part, looks great

Nice on Del. I have had this set up on my scrambler to, for some time now. Wow, what a great idea, but I also decided on using a HID set-up instead of the standard halogen bulb. Plug it all in, and no worries for 50k hours. As always, Del great ingenuity x

You do good work Del, nice, clean, mod. An alternative would be to slot the original mounting hole on on the screen bracket to form a hook. That way you could just slightly loosen the headlight mount screws and slide the screen up and off.
@Moonfleet41
Жыл бұрын
Good thinking mate, trouble is even if you crack the headlight mounting bolts off, a 1/8th of a turn to do what you suggest, the headlight aim will drop out of alignment, which is maybe no big shakes, but having to realign it in daylight is gonna get a ballache in the end!

Job well done Del!!
Hope you copyright that mod mate. Very nicely done sir. Triumph should be knocking at your door anytime soon!! Lol.

Exactly.. but as with many accessories, we're lucky they even fit properly in the first place.. at least this was just an upgrade for convenience !
Wasn't it a Triumph that you had to remove the carburetor to change the air filter? Daft doesn't begin to describe it!
@Moonfleet41
Жыл бұрын
Hi Harold. Yeah, on the legend (and the rest of the Thunderbird series), the two piece air box needs to be totally removed, and for that you need to slide the carbs out first... great for dealer labour profits i guess..lol!

It's a good solution. It may have been better cosmetically if you'd fabricated a joining piece with curves to match the screw head radius and placed it on the outside so concealing the the cut in the bracket.

Nice mod Del, and pretty sure if Triumph see this they will take it on board.
Well done Dell, off subject I sent this message to some snowflake at Nats Knacker sack or something like that in your support…… Bollocks seems to get mentioned by you a lot here, that’s probably because of what you’re talking, regardless of what you think of his practices at the end of the day Dell boy and Penny have contributed a hell of a lot of time, passed on great knowledge and given thousands of people help such as myself with his skills, seems to be sour grapes on your behalf, before you turn on me I’ve been there with the spray painting issues but just leave Del Boy to what he does best and why interfere? I pass on my Music teaching skills on you tube and always get knowall comments but just ignore them, Dell is different so get over it, I’m glad that this is your last post on this matter and not Dells and long may he keep contributing, he is a top man .
You're as bad as me, I see something I can better and modify it, open my draw of scrap metal get my tools out hack grind cut bang and modified.
