RADVENTURE TIME - Triumph Scrambler 1200 XC - 2000 Miles With A Pillion, Is It Any Good?
It was a crazy 2021, but Dani & I managed to pull off our 2000 mile road trip last Summer, and it was something else. I've wanted to get this video up for some time, because I think the question surrounding 'comfortable & capable' 2 up riding on the Scrambler 1200, is very valid, and I'd love to give my insight. So how does it fair up as an adventure machine?
Popcorn at the ready folks, this is slightly "educational" (he says). As always, thanks for your support! Please like, subscribe and feel free to pop any questions in the comments below. Hope this helps anyone on the fence for Scram touring.
Big shout out and huge appreciation to Bell Helmets, Hepco Becker & Barkbusters for supporting me on this moto journey, thanks guys! Amazing brands who I'll always get behind.
I was rocking the Bell Eliminator Stockwell Designs Edition, Dani had the Bell Bullitt Reverb.
I shot most of the footage on my awesome Insta 360 ONE X2, you can get one here through my affiliate link if interested! Any support really helps. store.insta360.com/product/on...
Dani had a GoPro Hero 7 Black setup on her helmet. Drone footage was captured by a DJI Mavic Mini.
The cabin we stayed in was Caban Crwn based in Powys, Wales. We booked it through the awesome site, Canopy & Stars. They have multiple cabins of different shapes & sizes to accommodate all families. This one was perfect for just us both. You can book it here: www.canopyandstars.co.uk/brit...

At last a review with the triumph scrambler and a pillion. Thank you. I've been looking at the heat shield liner after hearing other people complain about the heat. At least I'm now able to show my Wife this review, so thank you both.
This is the coolest, most genuine video of the Scrambler 1200 that ive seen. Thanks. Now im for sure buying one.
What a great video 👍👍 had me smiling from start to finish. You both seem like really genuine people, So refreshing to see nowadays. Taking the wifey for a long bike trip is awesome, there’s no getting away from each other, so you got to put up with each other no matter what. I took my wife on a 10 day trip thru the western USA from Canada. I think we covered 5000 km in 10 days it was a bucket list trip, one we will remember for years to come. Awesome video ride safe 👍👍👍
About to take my test and your videos have inspired me to go for the scrambler 1200 XC. Perfect all rounder
Thanks for sharing. I ride with my wife for trips occasionally and I can relate a lots of your insights of travelling with pillion. Especially refreshing to hear pillion's views which are often overlooked. Fantastic!

Ah thanks Alan, no worries. Yeah I wanted it to be a real world perspective and view on 2 up riding. Would've been pointless me just talking about it all, as it's a surprisingly different perspective being a pillion. Safe travels with the wife buddy!
Thank you for the great video! I just picked up a 2019 XC in the same color. Looking forward to more content!
Lovely bike and a great video. I rode through Wales and the Beacons last year - amazing place to go on a bike, especially when you get good weather. Thanks

Awesome video! I got my XE in the summer and am planning some trips on the west coast of Canada here. One possible solution I'm exploring for luggage is the Unit Garage pannier rack and a set of Lone Rider motobags. Excited to see how they fare!

I have the xc in blue and just love it like no other bike I have owned before thanks for sharing and look forward to seeing more 👍

Great watch matey👍🏻😁 Had my XC for 18months now and love every minute I ride it. I will be lock tighting the bolts on the right hand side that hold the exhaust covers on as one fell out on a ride!! Dealer replaced it under warranty though. I have the SW Motech Legend gear and it looks cool on the bike. Keep on chucking out your vids as they are really good. 👍🏻

I’m thinking of doing my Full bike licence and this is definitely the bike I will buy. I used to ride motocross bikes when I was younger and this is a road/motocross bike that looks and sounds so cool 😎

Really nice job on this video!
Echo the last comment. I wish I lived in England. Great video. Really enjoyed it. I'd love to hang out with you all and the Cotswold Crew. I'm a brand new Scrambler XC owner! Thanks for the video.
Great video and review! The Scrambler 1200 is such a competent actually. I did 1500 km in four days last summer on my XC, and it just delivers! Just load it up and go. Says the guy who recently bought a Tiger 800 XCx just for the extra comfort. And the main reason for that purchase was wind protection on highways and proper panniers for longer trips. But my Scrambler will still be my fun bike!
@unparalleledtwin5280

Thank you man! Yeah it really does deliver! Surprises you to be honest, absolutely love it. No shame there man, I would love to have a Tiger 900 in the stable to go alongside the Scram. Both epic machines in their own right. Enjoy!
Thanks so much this is a great film. I’ve literally this week traded in my Tiger 800 xca and a Speed Twin for a brand new Scrambler XC. I was finding having two bikes to be a real chore. I love the classic look of the Speedy and the long range comfort and off-road-ability of the Tiger. I’m hoping the Scrambler is a good compromise between the two.

Most welcome buddy, why I wanted to share this! I used to have a Royal Enfield Himalayan and a Triumph Bobber, so I feel you. I parted ways with both for my XC, and I've never looked back. The Scram is my 'do it all' machine, couldn't be happier. It's honestly the ideal combination of both bikes characteristics, especially with yours, the Scram is almost a love child of the Tiger & Speed Twin! Have fun man!

@@richardgeens3869 I’ve had the 1200xc for about 6 months now and I can’t tell you how pleased I am with it. My idea that it was half way between my Speed Twin and Tiger - has turned out to be about right. You get the comfort and presence of the Tiger with the retro style of the Speedy. I miss the triple engine on the Tiger but love the rumble of the parallel twin. I’m doing a 1000 mile trip round Ireland next week - so a real test of its touring abilities - but I’ve done a few fairly long overnight trips so I know it will be great. I don’t miss washing two bikes!
Great video! I will definitely be coming back again to watch it for more tips on big trips. I’m not sure my partner and I could have handled such a big trip on the same bike 😂

Well done guys. This must have been a great adventure. Thank you very much for the good content. We (my wife & I ) are shopping around for a bike that can be used on the weekends. We are not planning long trips only max 2hours, but maybe some light off-road capable too. The big adventure bikes are out of questions due to the size & weight of them. So lately been looking some cruisers and tried some Harleys (i just love the sound of them) but there is a limitation and off-road capability. I like the torque engines with nice twin sound so it doesn't need to go into high revs to get moved. So I just came across to the scrambles style by accident, and I think this is what we need for short trips and off-road capability. Still not sure if I should go for a XC or XE just yet... Have you not regret that you went for the XC instead of the XE? What speck you can say its important to have on these bikes? Should I go brand new or used? thanks and ride safe.
Excellent little vid, well done. I’ve owned a street triple r 2010….awesome bike,a tiger, then the thruxton r…..beautiful but so not practical, then the Attica twin….sooooo heavy but very comfortable. Sadly no bike now but next year I’m going for the scrambler 1200 xe it has to be done. You guys have sold the fact it can be done on the scrambler…..thankyou. You should definitely do Scotland……the west coast right up to the top…..stunning. Take care.

Thank you so much buddy! Really appreciate it, any way I can help from a real world scenario, you won't regret the purchase of this machine! I always loved the Street Scram, but it never had the true off road capability and set up, I'm also a massive fan of adventure bikes, Tiger 900 is 👌🏼 Triumph did something special with this 1200 Scram, couldn't be happier with it! Very excited for Scotland man, have always wanted to go, criminal I haven't been yet. Could probs pick up a 2019/20 model for a solid price next year. Have fun dude!
16:59 damn beautiful love it
When adjusting suspension, you should always go to the maximum position, ie, closing the valve completely, fully Clockwise, and then count the clicks back from closed. This is because the closed position is definite, whereas the fully open position, can occur before the adjustment screw stops. Thanks for the video, good to know it handles the 2 up duties as well.

Thanks bud. That's amazing, you honestly won't regret it. I find the XC being a weapon on road, and slightly nicer/more planted to ride with the front end rake, narrower bars etc, than the XE. I mean the asphalt is truthfully where you spend most of your time anyway! How did you get on? Take the plunge and go for one?
This is my dream bike. I would love to start with something similar but more cheaper for a beginner
Dreambike No:1 With out any doubt! Just like the name modern classic, ABS TC all the good stuff in a classic good old body even sound like a beauty dream
Great video, now i’m 100% sure to get a new XE, the only dubt was the comfort with a pillion

Nice video and ride. You are right, not much out there about riding/touring 2 up on a Scrambler. Good job. What jackets are those? They look great.
Great video, all your stuff is allways fantastic! The mirror placement on your bike looks awesome, but how much can you see out of it? 😅 Thinking of doing the same myself, just thought I'd ask 👍🏻
Great video! Also a green XC owner. I like that your tank looks slightly more glossy on the matte area. What's the secret? Love what you've done with your bike.

Thanks Brian! I'm actually no longer a green XC owner, had a bit of a makeover during Christmas, tank went to Pro Kustom 👌🏼 as for the Matte finish, I always used Motul's Matte surface detailer. I essentially cleaned it with a microfibre cloth with a lighter circular motion, so over time had kind of buffed it up. Other than that, no secrets here! 🤙🏼
Sweet
Just waiting for my XC to arrive and some better weather!! just wondering if you’ve had a decat on your exhaust? If not, have you found heat a problem? Interested in terms of a pillion as well. People go on about it a lot, I’m replacing my street scrambler for the XC and it was never really an issue for me on that so hoping the XC will be the same. Love what you’ve done with your bike so far 🙂
the bike looks amazing. what mirrors are you using on it?
If you’re a fan of the Triumph Scrambler, read Forgotten Road by Randall Arthur. The whole last half of the book highlights the Scrambler with numerous on-road adventures. The book is a work of fiction, but supposedly the adventures in the book are all based on Arthur’s real-life experiences. Randall Arthur is the author of the bestselling novel Wisdom Hunter. On a side note, Forgotten Road is a faith-based novel.

Dude this is simply amazing. My partner and I did the NC500 last year, amazing. Also absolutely loving the motor. I wondered if I could get some advice. I’m getting rid of an old cafe racer and am torn between a 2015/16 street scrambler 900 or the XE 1200… I think I got put off by the 1200 stock as they look so.. erm.. BMW GS’y… but this video has totally changed my opinion on it - you’ve made it edgy! I’m 6’2 and so think this could be an option? Would you say any pros or cons for either? Either way… ledge video guys!

Thanks man! First of all massive apologies for delay in responding.. secondly, appreciate the love, and thirdly, decisions decisions dude! Honestly, whilst it's fairly biased of me to suggest the Scram 1200, I can't quite recommend it enough. For your height, you'll no doubt find the XE to be spot on. It all depends what you want out of it. Nothing wrong with the 900, the LC Twin is far superior to the pre 2016 Bonnie's, but the torque, overall power and off road capability of the Scram 1200 just makes it a winner. Mod cons of an adventure bike, but holds onto those classics lines of old, and carries the heritage. Test ride one my man, see how you feel. Best advice I can give. P.S BMW called, they're asking you to take that statement back with immediate effect. 😂🙌🏼
She needs a Street Scrambler... I got the XC and the wife rides the Street Scrambler... perfect match...
Offtopic but... Where did you get your gear? It looks great
Hey, Love this video. And it is sooo informative. I am about to pull the trigger on a scrambler. I took the XE out and it’s Just a little bit too tall. It would be fine for me but I want to take my wife on it as well. I suppose my question is.. what is your height and weight Matt. I’m about 6ft and 15.5 stone. My thought is with my wife and luggage the xe would be roomier? Also with the luggage rack you have would you need a new tail tidy or does the stock on still fit with that rack? 😃😃. I wish I was young and carefree again! Without wanting to sound like an old killjoy, make the most out of it! I've always been a sadist, putting looks and feel way above practicality. When I was in my early 20's I used to go touring on a small engined hardtail chop. I've never owned a bike with a fairing, heated grips, hard panniers or abs. I suppose if I've never had it I've never missed it.....

Yeah it's all too easy to get caught up in the "what's best" fiasco, but truth is you can have a blast on any machine, all about what you make of it! I met a chap called Nathan Millward, when he was a young lad he travelled from Sydney to London on a Honda postie bike, amazing stuff. Once you try the latest tech, it's understandable why people go for it, but in all that, I do find some bikes just lose character. More to go wrong also! Small CC hardtail sounds awesome. Cheers Nathan! I've been rocking Mitas E10's for a good year and a half now, my go to tyres, been through 4 sets, love 'em! They're an aggressive tyre, more dirt oriented, but perform incredibly well on the tarmac, even in the wet. Sacrifice for this performance is lifespan though, soft rubber compound lasts about 3000 miles on the rear. On par with TKC80's in my opinion, if not better. Mitas do E07's which are a great all rounder, highly rated by folks like Bret from Mototrek. I'll be giving them a go soon I think.
