I've just bought some of these and having them powder coated black before fitting. I fitted some to my previous Street Scrambler and used a socket and wobble bar instead of a spanner on the top engine mount nuts. An impact gun also makes single handed installation easier, finishing off with the torque wrench of course.👍

They look nice and serve a purpose. Being a courier I dropped my bike untold times over many years, usually from stalling during maneuvers, the bike would buckaroo me to the floor. My simple crash bungs saved the engine, indicators, mirrors every time. Cheers

Another step to make to Scrambler a real-world motorcycle leaving asphalt. Crash bars are no exactly beautiful, but highly recommended in case of falling over. Which you do riding offroad from time to time ;-) Very soothing watching you work on a bike. Thanks for your channel, Günter/Nürnberg

Eye of the beholder… it is that kind of part you could just give it a lick of paint etc if you don’t want them to be silver. Seen one that wrapped them with engine wrap.

Whereas on a light bike like my Beta Alp 200 I have no crash protection at all, only handguards for dense German forests. Mebbe I’m in the minority, but I think they look great - in fact, to my eye, any Scrambler bike looks plain wrong without ‘em! 👍🏻

I like the look of that - Triumph does such really high-quality accessories. They come at a cost (!!!) but, they are worth it.

Alright Del, I put a set of OEM crash bars on my Tiger 800 when I bought it about six years ago. They were redundant until a Scotland trip year before last when I threw on the floor after hitting some loose gravel in a lay by.... Bars saved my engine casing and major headache in the middle of nowhere..... I've since upgraded to a set of Heed bunker busters, they protect from the bottom of the engine upto the fuel tank... Just in case 😉

That was the first thing I bought for my street Scrambler. Only mine were powder coated black. Didn't know a stainless version was available. Mine is at powder coat right now going to a medium dark, satin grey, with light metal flake. Also my R brake pedal, shifter lever, headlight mount bracket castings, and rear rack. It's a blacked out bike. I didn't want to add any chrome but wanted some contrast/detail.

I'm guessing those bars were pricey being factory parts but man do they look like quality parts. Triumph should just link this install on their online install instructions. They are missing a great opportunity by not hiring you and Penny. Nm torque specs don't mean much to us yanks but I got a pretty good idea of the conversion by hearing the amount of grunt needed on the mount bolts.😁 I'd rather call them Engine Dresser Bars rather than Crash Bars. Sure thing Rick, those engine mount bolts are a hefty heave.. 76ft lb i think, or one and a half puffs and a grunt... right on the limit of the 3/8 drive torque wrench. Really impressed with the bars, good quality stainless steel and not coated, just media blasted for a really durable finish that will last. Hi Del, great vid - just wish I’d seen it before I fitted mine to my 900 Street Scrambler! I couldn’t find the exhaust header torque setting anywhere though; the Triumph instructions just refer you to the workshop manual for that part of the job 🤷‍♂️ Ang ideas?

'Dresser Bars', the American vernacular permeates into the Triumph brand, when I went to Oz in 1980 it was a gearbox, after a yr I was saying transmission or tranny, they are more US oriented than UK in Oz, nice set of crash bars, & do the job in case of misfortune, I put a set of 'Mustache ' bars on Freddie Fatboy a few months ago, I liked the look of them, & a savior in case of errant other motorists. Sure thing Geoff, back in my bike trade days I saw numerous bikes after horrendous crashes, long road slides and every bike that had crash bars was preactically unscathed on the engine, and every one without, the motors were usually destroyed... engine casings pop through with the lightest of impact, often exposing the end of the crank, and writing off the entire motor, and with it the bike! Simple common sense protection... and yeah you're right, our language is evolving all the time, although I don't think I'll ever get used to saying 'tranny' lol

I'm so used to pushing up Givi's share prices with every bike purchase it's become second nature. I guess I better tackle the dresser bars tomorrow instead of the heated grips. Winters here but my engine needs protection. The factory instructions don’t say the torque specs for the exhaust. Guess I’ll set those to the German specs of gutentight like normal. Nice video.

@@Moonfleet41 😂. I did find those specs. 10nm stepping up to 19nm. Might as well make use of my outrageously priced SnapOn torque wrenches lol.

I have been wanting to fit my recently bought engine bars for my suzuki gs500, but with the original engine bolts having not been disturbed in twenty years, it's proving to be a bun fight. Originally, I tried a blow lamp but now splashed out on mapgas. I'm still having problems as the bolts won't budge. I only have WD40 and GT85 What do you suggest, Del? One day, when my money comes through, I'm buying a triumph 😀

Best thing in the world mate is Aero Kroil, soak it with that for a few days, continually adding a little more and then with a little heat and a good purchase with the tool, you'll get them off! Good luck and have a blessed Easter, D&Px

Another one of those weird things that you buy, but hope to never actually use, hahaha. Mmm, new copper donut exhaust gasket. I find those one of the most satisfying things to install on any project, for some reason.

Very nice and to good to weld mesh to, aka damage 😂 Been putting mine off for months. Can't get the front and rear engine bolts out, seized in solid. Got access to oxy but scared of melting wires. Need it done. All the very best Del and Penny x

Start soaking the thread ends in penetrating oil every morning and night for a week, apply a little heat, and use a breaker bar.. they should break free buddy.

Your videos are so helpful and well shot. I’m about to fit these myself on the weekend along with new slash cut exhausts. Just wondering if you can share a bit more information about your torque wrench(es). You seem to have every bit of kit for every job, aspirational.

Let me have a guess Ben, it's about not giving products a 'negative' title OR liability in case they don't actually protect the engine in a crash and preventing claims to argue that they should (a bit like when roll bars in open top sports cars are called 'display hoops'), is that it? Hi Harold, hat was just a little anti-seize compound, not entirely necessary as it has covered dome nuts, but the bike's going to get pretty dirty so just belt and braces!

Hi I wish there are similar crash bars for the Street/Speed Twin 900. Those can save you a real headache if you fall on the left hand side with the huge risk of damaging the shifter shaft mechanism which is prone to break on these Triumphs.

Nice work Del. Very smart. Much better looking and more streamline than the SWMotech bars that were already fitted to my xe. Keep ‘em coming mate

If you’re a fan of the Triumph Scrambler, read Forgotten Road by Randall Arthur. The whole last half of the book highlights the Scrambler in numerous, fantastic adventures. The book is a work of fiction, but supposedly the adventures in the book are all based on Arthur’s real-life experiences. Randall Arthur is the author of the bestselling novel Wisdom Hunter. On a side note, Forgotten Road is a faith-based novel.

Great timing as I’m about to fit a set to my sons Scrambler 900 for him. Do these bars provide protection for the gear shift lever? The 900 lever is rigid unlike the folding one fitted to the 1200. Unfortunately two minor zero speed lay downs on to the left side have resulted in a split selector shaft (£290) and a bent shift lever (£80).

Sadly no, these crash bars don't protect the lever, but then as you state, it is folding... just thinking, is it possible to fit a 1200 lever on the 900? I can't imagine the spline size is different, possibly worth a look? Or if it was me, and you've been done that horrific route already, I'd perhaps grind a sacrificial notch in the tow end of the lever arm, like we have on the end of a clutch lever, to make it break off where you want it to...! Perhaps a thought? You could even drill a hole through it just back from the tow peg, that would weaken it enough to work ok but snap there if the worst happens instead of doing engine damage... good luck with it mate.

@@Moonfleet41 Thanks for the reply. I’ll look in to the folding gear lever. I had thought of creating a weak point. I also considered putting a flat washer on the shaft behind the shift lever to take up the lateral movement of the selector shaft which caused the damage when the shaft was forced in to the gearbox. I’m told by a triumph tech that this is a no no as the clearance is required for the selectors to work correctly. Seems to be a known issue but we still had to pay as it was damaged in an ‘accident’.

@@Chompwat "Seems to be a known issue" is such a common thing with design mistakes, yet they never seem to fess up and just deal with it.. Harley XR1200 plastic fuel tanks swelled up and their covers then failed to fit.. dealers either denied it or just blamed the customer for using crap fuel... that solved it for them until they discontinued the bike, problem solved..!!

Aha. Thought one would have to support the engine while taking off a frame bolt...

Del, them bars is sexy as boots on a rooster! (No, I don't know what that means, exactly, either, but that was the favorite saying of an old hand that worked with my brother, years ago, and I am easily amused!) I really like the bolts with the Torx inside and the 12 point on the outside of the head. That kind of touch to an otherwise ordinary, forgettable piece separates the fine bikes from the rest. I also like Triumph's idea of putting the rubber sleave on the joint of the two sides, and made a handsome point of visual interest from what could have been unsightly if just bolted together with two flat plates butted together.

The part numbers for the dresser bars changed, the older set (--55) does not come with spacers and longer bolts, it's supposed to use the existing bolts. The newer set (-119) comes with the long bolts plus spacers. I've got a newer bike, and an older used set of bars. I'm trying to figure out if I can use them...

Didn't catch the exhaust video then?, i took almost 5 1/2 Kilos OFF the bike, Also BHP is meaningless mate, it's a Twin, they're all about Torque, 110Nm, same as an MT-10 and it does it at less than half the revs... Ill take low down grunt over fizzy revs any day mate !

110 !!! I read 82 on the specs. I like low down grunt. I ride a single producing close to the same hp as that Triumph at half the capacity. I know its horses for courses but why can BMW produce a 1250 producing 136hp on a twin, all be it a flat twin. Maybe I've got my maths wrong or possibly my comprehension of torque vs hp is confused. Suppose its what you like and how you ride. Can't wait for the road test though

@@richswain6996 Yes, because BHP is a factor of torque X RPM. If you could rev the bike to 10K it would probably make 135HP without any other mods.

I've just done the valve clearances on my Cbf1000. Anyone who thinks Honda's never need doing is wrong, I had to pop the camshafts out. Oddly enough it wasn't that hard, just fiddly and time consuming.

Can I pick your brains on this. First ride after the install and I have a vibration at 70mph. Bike is new with only 300 miles. I’ll check the bolts are all torques correctly but is this normal?

@@wiseguyrob2005No mate, it's not normal to have vibration, you have removed engine mount bolts in order to fit them so it's critical they should be re-installed correctly and torqued up etc., which you say you've done... so without seeing the bike, it's difficult to know what might be up, just double check every fastener is present and correct and that everything's installed correctly... And as you only have 300 miles on the bike, perhaps bring up the issue when you take it for 1st service!

I hit a roo a couple weeks ago. Sad, 🥲he was a kamikaze I think. Came outof nowhere, no time to react. Crash bar saved engine casing 👍
