    I'm someone who hates dark chocolate, but I'm ok with milk chocolate. Usually if I buy browning they're fine. But when I've tried baking them from recipes, or even from mixes - they tend to have quite a bit of cocoa powder in it which can make it very dark-chocolatey in taste, which can be bitter. If they were to make brownies with just milk chocolate and melt it in butter, it'd probably be far more palatable.

    Brownies look good on the outside but if it ain't sweet then something went wrong in the making. Also, I think chocolate chip cookies are a mistake. The baker wanted to make chocolate cookies by adding chips to the batter. He thought the chocolate chips would melts in the oven and result in chocolate cookies. What came out was the chocolate chip cookie.

    I'm thinking they may have over-baked them a bit, which is easy to do with brownies because they still look a bit wiggly in the middle when done. If slightly burnt, they would be bitter. Or there wasn't enough sugar, to counteract the natural bitterness of the cocoa. Brownies are sublime, a deep rich combination of sweet, savory, buttery chewiness, if they turn out right.

  • @toomanyaccounts

    @@patriciamorgan6545 brownies tend to use melted chocolate which would tend to be sweet unless dark chocolate. there are some other differences from a cake that someone unfamiliar with western cooking could easily mess up a brownie. similiar ingredients for the most part but differences with how it is cooked. one channel provided mini chocolates cakes claiming they were brownies since that is what the bakery that did them said they were. when informed of the mistake they redid it with fudge brownies and the pakistanis loved the fudge brownies and understood why milk was there to be had with it. they even said the americans were right about the mistake.

    When I was a kid, my mom was going back to college at the university of oregon in the early 80s.. She brought a lot of foreign students home for holidays, that she had befriended, because they had no family and nowhere to go. So I met a lot of africans, asians, south americans, europeans, etc. The one thing they all loved was Jell-o. I remember the two south korean doctoral students in particular were amazed at it and kept asking what it was, and how it was made. When she told them it was made from horse hooves traditionally, they were curious and disgusted at the same time until they tried it and loved it. She gave them a couple boxes as gifts as they left. They made it at home and were so very pleased and thanked my mom profusely.

    I’m sure whoever prepared the sweets tried their best. But the chocolate chip cookies should have chocolate chips all throughout the cookie. Not just in the middle. And a brownie should never be bitter. Brownies can also be made more fudgy and chewy or more cake like. Personal preference will make for a very different brownie. Also jello is rarely eaten plain like this. We mix fruit and whipped cream and even add a pretzel crust.

  • @Stanzafly

    @Stanzafly

    Your point about jello must be regional. May I ask where you're from?? Because I've never actually known anybody to dress up jello, at least not where I live. I know that's something folks did in the 50s but I've never seen it done. The most my family has ever done is substitute fruit juice for water. I have seen, however, folks put whipped cream on top. But what's this about a crust??!

Make some warm sugar syrup, mix in chocolate powder, bit of butter, then put in bowl and roll squares of vanilla sponge in the sweet chocolate syrup until completely covered, then roll again in dessicated coconut. If you want the posh version, after you roll cake in chocolate and dessicated coconut, slice square in half, horizontally, then put a either a strawberry or blackberry jam spread across one side of cake, then smear whipped cream on top of that, then put cake back together, to make it square again. Called a Lamington. Great way to use stale vanilla sponge.

    Jell-O was hugely popular during and following WW2 because it was easy to get and because during the war sugar was not. My Mum, now 98, and my grandmother's, now deceased, could make so many desserts and even some savory dishes with Jell-O....as kids, in the 1970s, my friends and I would take a box of Jell-O on the sly to school and sprinkle some on our palms and lick it off during recess and lunch, and we always got caught because it would smell so sweet and stain our hands. 😆 Brownies should not be bitter, but they also should not be super sweet. ❤️ From 🇨🇦

    Put a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of the chocolate chip cookie and drizzle a little caramel over it. It's works best with cookies that are a couple days old.

    I like home-made desserts, choc. chip cookies, donuts, carrot cake, ice-cream, and I like fruit desserts too, sometimes plain and sometimes on things or in pies, cakes and ice-cream.

    The brownies needed vanilla ice cream! When you make a dark chocolate brownie, you must have that sweet and creamy side, for sure

    Glad they liked the jell-o, it looked proper! Bless the cook but the cookies and brownies didn't seem to represent those desserts at their average, nevermind their best. I'm sure they'll get a re-try at them at some point :)

    The cookies had all the choclate chips in the center (which isn't normal) and I wonder if they and the brownies were served fresh and hot

    There were chocolate chips all throughout the cookies as you could see when they broke one open. The ones on top were just more decoration.
