same, im 17 and i loved watching this video when i was younger and i think videos like this are why i love science so much. I'm going to study meteorology in college as I have ALWAYS loved weather science, maybe even major in other fields like geology or physics, and hopefully get a teaching degree so i can teach science to other kids in high school. I don't think Michael knows how influential he is to me and my interests

I saw this video 4 years ago and many more times after that. I just wanna say that my current biggest fear is falling into a black hole. Slowly approaching a giant mass of pure darkness while everything you know and love slowly becomes smaller and smaller. On top of that, the uncertainty of when you’ll be ripped to atoms would cause suspense greater than any horror movie villain ever could.

I recently read a story of a girl with extreme fear of heights that was pressured into bungie jumping, but she was such a nervous wreck and the jump itself was so poorly managed that she accidentally jumped without a rope to her death. It was later determined that she didn't even die from hitting the ground, in mid air she realised she was about to live through her worst fear and die a horrific death, and her adrenaline was so high that she literally died of fear via a heart attack. That is to say dw, if it really is that big of a fear for you, at least theres a chance youd die of shock before you ever got spaghettified =]

Not really. When you are buried alive you can't breathe and probably you'll be dead in like 5-10 hours but after like a 15 minutes of suffocation you'd pass out. In a black hole however, you'd see everything around you get smaller and smaller. Your astronaut friend waiting you outside of the event horizon, things that happened seconds before that. Again and again and again and again... After this you'd feel every molecule of you being ripped apart from you while you are aware of what's happening. Every, single molecule. We have millions of blood cells in our body. So, just picture it. And what's even worse is, we don't know what'll happen next. Even after being crushed by a black hole, which is probably the worst and most painful way to die, you're not over. Now, i think being buried alive is horrible but nowhere near this.

Watched this 10 years ago and was fascinated and here I am now, and I feel no different Vsauce is and will always be a legendary learning platform that I valued so much in school and it’s a shame videos Michael didn’t make these kinds of videos nowadays😢

Whenever I hear about black holes in depth, I'm instantly transported back to around 2006 when I got a satellite box in my room and spent the first day with it watching various science shows, including a special on Black Holes

Then what do you think the real answers are to these questions, Psychedelic? What is it that we're really seeing in the sky? Gods canvas of the heavens? an alien hologram to mess with us? If you head to university and take astronomy courses and do the math yourself with the sole purpose to prove that it's all a lie, you'll be hard pressed to find out a lot of the discoveries in space aren't "theories" but scientifically and mathematically confirmed facts. Almost 12 years later. This video takes me back, especially the background music.

Today I won 2nd place in a trivia competition because this video taught me what an event horizon was, and it stuck with me for all these years. Thanks for always making engaging videos for so many years!

It's so strange to me that all these Vsauce videos descend from a different time on KZread, yet they don't seem out of place at all when watching them now. It's also nice watching the same videos again and noticing how much more you actually understand now in comparison to when you were younger (and lots of us were kids back then).

That kinda answers my question of "what if we tie a person on a really strong cable, let them cross the event horizon and then pull them back?" I initially thought "I'll probably get an answer along the lines of 'the pull would be so great that either the cable would break or it would pull your space ship (or whatever you decided to anchor the cable to)' but instead it sounds much more horrifying... and intriguing. So we have essentially no possible or even conceivable way of studying the inside of a black hole past the event horizon. Even if we send a non-human robot or something that can transmit the information, there is no way for it to transmit it back to us because the space is so bent that any information sent in our direction is essentially going back in the direction of the black hole... that is so fascinating.

coming back to this video after learning about black holes in my university astronomy class, feels cool to actually understand everything that he's talking about now.

This was my first Vsauce video that I've ever watched and I've always come back to this channel every once and a while because of that desire to learn in a digestable form even though I can basically recite most of the videos even how squishy my brain is. I remember subscribing 13 years ago or something like that, i miss michael's videos like this, rhat arebboth informative of complicated physics for the average leyman, but are also extremely engaging! The universe is a quirky place, but michael bringsvit slightly closer to our feeble minds understanding

I overthink and worry about the universe and time and shit like that most nights now. I say it myself 'what happened before time?' And 'what happens after Heaven (if there is one)?' or 'what is outside the universe?' Because there must be something outside the universe, a space for it to fill, right? I even get scared sometimes, and I don't know what to do. Does anyone else get this?

Sounds like you're having a bit of an existential crisis, my friend. I've always felt that pondering the questions of existence, while infinitely awesome, is also a counterintuitive to mental stability. Sometimes I wish I was a blissfully ignorant person who was consumed only by the small superficial things and never questioned what life really is or why it's here.

My Astronomy textbook in college presented a situation where two astronauts were at a black hole, each holding a digital clock with the same time. One astronaut jumped into the black hole. The one who jumped would see the clock of the other one get faster and faster while also getting increasingly blue, until it is so fast to be impossible to read. The one who did not jump would see the clock of the other one get slower and slower while also getting increasingly red until it appears to stop completely. Black holes are cool

+NashPlays MCPE but it would happen faster than your pain receptors could pick it up, due to the intense gravity of a black hole right? Did anyone think of it like that? Pain isn't instantaneous action. Its a reaction, meaning it would take time to send the chemical signals through your cells and perceive the black hole as "painful" Due to the infinite large mass of a black hole wouldn't it mean its gravity is proportional and it would seem to disassemble/pull you in quickly

I remember watching this I week before I watched interstellar, and ne2r the end of the movie, all I thought of was this exact video. If was as though time stopped just trying to understand what I was seeing. I still love that movie, and this video.

I had a nightmare where I was in a ship travelling into a black hole. The inside of the ship warped into a crazy shape and everything went completely black and quiet. It was the scariest, darkest feeling I've ever felt, imagining what it feels like to be trapped in a bubble of spacetime. I remember reaching out and feeling one of the other passengers hands and holding it for comfort. Then we popped out the other side and I woke up so relieved I was practically crying.

i actually had once a dream like u where it was just nothingness and black and the feeling of it was like im dying or smt i can't really describe that feeling but it was very scary for me and i couldn't processed that much. i started getting very uncomfortable for a few weeks. that was horrible

If i had a dream like this.. Next minute Im going into a Blackhole. Next Im fighting space pirates inside the Blackhole because they took control of the singularity and plan to take over the universe with it. Then I would land in a city inside the blackhole and there would be people trying to stop me from saving the singularity and I kill everyone 'Madness Combat' Style, then after I release the singularity, Black Hole Space Beings would congratulate me and make me the King of All the Black holes then I would wake up.

Can we just appreciate the cameraman for travelling across the space only for us
