    Wrong. Speed of light is 299 792 458 m / s. When you say other than, there are infinite possible values of speed other than 299 792 458 m / s. So, does dark changes it's mood whenever it wants? Lol. Take that last line as a joke.

    These things are known on the Discworld ; that the Speed of Dark is faster than the Speed of Light. For is it not written that the darkness is always present before light is. Nearly as fast are lies - a lie can run around the world before the truth has gotten its boots on.

    @@supreetkumar7604 I think what people fail to realize is that dark is both racing ahead in front of light and catching up behind light light takes a space that dark once filled therefore I would say that dark is actually faster because once the dark rushes in past the light then we have light again if light were faster than dark then the entire back side of the night sky would be have a faint glow around it because of the fact that darkness is always being pushed back from all these stars and everything so that would mean that darkness has to rush in in front of and behind the light giving it a faster speed

    If you actually close one eye and bring your fingers right up to your open eye so your vision of them is unfocused when you do this, the effect becomes very pronounced. There's also an interesting inverse effect when you do this. After your fingers are already touching, you can still "see through" the point where they touch.

    I'd like to add something: though it is good to not be too confident in your findings, overly submitting to questioning, makes you question yourself to the point of ignorance. People end up submitting then, to any authority that appears more knowledgeable. Instead of searching for themselves. Do not be overly confident, but the manner in which you grow confidence in both yourself and others, is the doubt of both yourself and others. Challenge yourself. Challenge the others. We are one.

    WRECKER 123 Can you go shopping at the speed of light? Will the mall's toilet become a Quasar after 4.6 billion years?

  • @thomasboys7216

    @thomasboys7216

    7 жыл бұрын

    Depends how many people take a dump in it. A quasar is an area of electromagnetic energy that forms around a supermassive black hole, like the one at the centre of our galaxy. It has a mass of 8.2×10^36 kg or roughly 4 million times the mass of our sun, so in order for the mall toilet to have a quasar around it, it needs to become a supermassive black hole. Now, according to wikipedia, an average human produces 128g of shit per day or approx 47kg over the course of a year. Current population of the earth is 7.4 billion people, so we're looking at 348 billion kgs of shit each year. In other words, if the entire population of the Earth used that one toilet for 23,560,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 years, it could potentially form a quasar. For scale, 4.6 billion years looks like this: 4,600,000,000. It'd probably result in a few blockages as well.

    Sometimes you got to rethink old sayings such as "misery loves company". A way we know, is a person who is miserable likes to spread its misery to others to make the others miserable. Another example of misery loves company is a miserable person just badly NEEDS somebody to cheer him/her up ( which will extinguish or neutralize the misery). So of course darkness is waiting for light because Darkness has nothing and has/is always alone until 🌞LIGHT 💡🕯 comes about and changes all that by providing company and neutralizing loneliness✌

    This was a video worthwhile to come back to, I have now a few new reflections on the closing thoughts. I used to delight myself with the metaphors Michael used in this video about how science does shed light on the dark but increasingly shows us the things we still don't know the answers to. This very much did influence my interest in science and philosophy and my pursuit of a career in science (not there yet) but now I want to ponder the implications of this metaphor by asking the question of 'what happens if we replace science with pseudoscience, theism, pseudo-intellectualism and other dogmatic and uncritical/non-skeptical belief systems?'. If science sheds light on the unknown while increasing the perimeter of darkness, 'the known unknown', how do these other thought movements work? They still give an answer but it's not enlarging the perimeter of darkness in the same way science or philosophy does. It's giving an answer as a tool in negotiation with the curious to make them quiet down and stop asking questions. The answers are arbitrary or politically useful for the giver of the answers or reflective of norms and customs of the time and place which wrote down and spoke of these answers to questions. They are anything but an attempt at accurately describing the world while provoking new follow-up questions. They are not meant to stoke curiosity, but rather to quell it. So as science works like a flashlight in the dark only revealing some things and pushing the border of the unknown further out with each added flashlight; all of the 'sources of knowledge' other than science and philosophy work by first walking into a tent and then lighting a candle - giving the illusion of shedding light while also showing the places of unknown which raise questions we ought to investigate in the dark folds and corners of the tent. While in this tent, asking of anything that lies beyond it is blasphemy because it is inconceivable that the tent is not the true border of knowledge. Dogmatic people like to think they know what's up and to be confident about it, just as non-dogmatic believers in science and philosophy (to distinguish them from those who don't question science or philosophy) would like to have certain and absolute knowledge. The difference is that believers in science and philosophy and the incremental improvements in our understanding of all things we can question, ponder and explore, we also have learned to tolerate or, as this video subtly eludes to, intentionally seek out all the unknowns. I wish I could know the answers to all the questions I have but I'd rather admit my ignorance and keep my intellectual integrity than to believe something for the feeling of security and other benefits that come with feeling certain about something. Before you can convince a dogmatic believer they're wrong and guide them to the truth, you must first see if they could shake that dogma and admit ignorance. If they remain certain that nothing would be able to change their mind you have nothing you can do but to wait for them to come around on their own. Convincing anyone with a conviction that they're wrong is difficult enough but with some people it is impossible, and that is because of dogma. Dogma can be lost but it is something you can't make people lose, they have to lose it on their own.
