That’s how this always seems to go according to the vast majority of trans-widows. The pattern is always the same. They are middle aged men who become obsessed with pornography and that leads them down a really dark road. Some end up viewing and dabbling in pedophilic content, and the more “virtuous ones” end up as proclaiming they are women and getting sexual kicks off of making everyone else pretend the same. But it always starts with pornography. As the Bible foretold, those who are not lovers of God and lovers of the Truth will be given over to their most debased desires. We are just watching one form of that come to fruition. 🤷🏽‍♀️

A quality therapist facilitates their client navigating and understanding their thoughts and feelings. They should provide resources and techniques to help process anything troubling them or holding them back. They should not be implanting their own ideas or influencing them in any way whatsoever. To refer to a client's proposed therapy plan as an "experiment" that will be "fun" should be an immediate red flag to everyone and the client should cease contact with that therapist immediately (and potentially report them to any certifying board or agency).

A male friend of mine was married to a woman who said she wanted a divorce because she discovered she was lesbian. So my male friend in an attempt to save his marriage starting to say he was non-binary and later a trans woman. His wife still divorced him and is with a man! She was never a lesbian, she was trying to just let him down easy I guess? Anyway, my male friend still decided to go through with being trans, he is a 6'2 240lb trans woman now. I am not making this up, I live in California and have another friend who was a 4'11 female that transitioned into a gay trans man. Yes, the 4'11 female is still attracted to men but wanted to be a gay man. They were 24 and my other friend was 32 when they transitioned. Both transitioned before covid, neither has had a sexual relationship since, both are on anti-depressants and the male to female transition has had a lot of complications. I don't ask if they regret it but if we were placing bets I would put my money on it that they do.

The fact is that not "everything goes" in sexuality. We have to be constantly aware of unhealthy perversion, because the more you feed the bad wolf, the more it grows. And that's what's happened. There are genuine gay or trans people, but now it's grown out of control with all the crazy "support".

one scene that really stuck out to me is near the end of the 18 months, he is flouncing around in a pink frilly tutu dress and asking Shannon what she thinks of it. ANd if he had any connection to her, he would have known that pink frilliness was never her style. But for some reason he though she would like the pink frilly dress? IT was this incredibly heartbreaking moment of how much he had erased about her , forgotten about her as he became completely self-obsessed. Or maybe it's just normal dude behavior. By that time in the book, even I knew Shannon's style better than the man she'd been in a relationship with for 15 years. its really struck me. (I edited to clarify some unclear pronouns.)

I have been to multiple therapists over the years. A few good, a few bad. It's not right to judge all of therapy over one or two bad examples. I am a survivor of childhood sexual abuse that started at age 5. My first disclosure to a therapist I was told it doesn't happen to boys, which just increased my mental health issues. I saw a second therapist who decided instead she wanted to treat me for "grief counseling" over the death of the very person who sexual abused me for ten years because she was uncomfortable talking about sexual trauma. I eventually found an amazing therapist at a rape crisis center who helped me get my mental health in shape. I spent 7 years at the crisis center, and unfortunately went through several therapist(all were EXCELLENT) because it seemed like they all found better paying jobs elsewhere. I know many others who have had great success as well.

I'm not going by one or two bad examples; I'm going by hundreds. I've seen more than 12 therapists myself over the last 25 years, and gotten 4 for my children. I've also been in online groups for parents who are suffering severely from bad therapists. I'd say in my own experience, it's a wash. The half that were good managed to help me recover from the trauma inflicted upon me of those that were bad. Kind of like they cancelled all therapy out, and I'm back to where I would have been if I'd just talked to my cat. Sounds like you're in somewhat of a similar situation. :/ @@RingoHalliday

Shannon's book is amazing and everyone should read it. I went through something similar with an ex-fiance. He started with bras and panties under his normal clothes, and quickly progressed to pink sparkly manicures and outward feminine dress. I didn't like it but I still tried to be supportive and open-minded, but I left when I caught him using fetish groups to cheat. Unsurprisingly he told everyone I left because I was a bigot who couldn't accept the "real him". Oh sorry, the real HER 🙄 This man was a 6'9" fat bald autogynephile demanding the right to involve unwilling participants in his fetish, but yeah I was the villain. I have two friends who lost their husbands to malignant autogynephilia as well, and were also smear-campaigned for leaving. This happens to a LOT of women and I for one am sick to death of the onus being on us to joyfully embrace losing the men we fell in love with.

As soon as a man starts cross dressing with me especially during sex, I would have ended the relationship right there. If that was not the situation you signed on for it is time to move on. I think it is important for couples when they first start dating to start asking more questions about what their predilections are and what fantasies they my have sexually. I think people don't have those honest discussions enough at the beginning. If there is an agreement understood about sexual and gender roles then there should be an understanding of fidelity as long as that relationship exists. Each party should be accountable for their own happiness and should disclose when they start feeling unhappy in the relationship. If after both inner work with themselves and outer work with each other they no longer match up they should cut their losses to allow either party to find contentment elsewhere. Neither party should put a burden on the other to fulfill their happiness particularly when one has to totally change themselves to accommodate the other to do so. Due to the changes in society, few marriages will last a lifetime. Even if there is no drastic change like gender transition some people evolve over time and may want to move on to another life. Just my 2 cents.

You stated: "I think it is important for couples when they first start dating to start asking more questions about what their predilections are and what fantasies they my have sexually. I think people don't have those honest discussions enough at the beginning. " I agree with you that communication is very important, especially in matters that will effect a relationship, and this extends to conversation are sex and sexuality. I had two things that had a disastrous impact on my marriage. The first was that I was sexually abused as a child from age 5 to 15. This left me with PTSD and I would have flashbacks to the abuse during sex, which lead to me not wishing to have sex, and lead to my wife threatening to leave. I was able to seek therapy, and with a psychologist was prescribed medications. I have also been able to be in support groups. My mental health is much better. That all said, I'm going to more directly address your comment about discussing sexuality. My abuse alone made talking about sex an uncomfortable thing, even with my wife. In addition, my first girlfriend I had as an adult laughed at me when I told her about kinks and fetishes. She continued to make fun of me over what I told her for the remained of our relationship. This lead to never talking to any other partner, including my wife for a very long time. In fact we first started dating in 2006, married in 2010, and it was not until six months ago that I finally opened up and told her what I desired with her. It honestly turned into a very positive conversation, but it was extremely difficult to initiate that conversation. That all said. I think what Shannon's husband did was terrible. He did her a great disservice by involving her in that in that way. What would have been more fair would be to either leave her and transition after, or give her a clear option to stay through it. But at the end of the day, there are those of us who either have been shamed for sexual desires already, or have reason to fear shame, and are forced to then stay quiet. Its a real shame, but its true. I also think it has only gotten worse in recent years.

@@RingoHalliday I empathize with your situation. Sorry you had to go through that. It sounds like you guys were already in a relationship when you started the discussion. I also get it when people are afraid to disclose. I hope this does not sound too disappointing but I personally believe that if a person rejects one it's time for one to move on. I don't care how many months, weeks, or years one has invested in that relationship. That's why I say that fidelity is an important element in a relationship. I believe as adults that we should be seeking happiness for ourselves as individuals before getting in a relationship. And within that relationship, one should continue to seek to be responsible for their own happiness. Personally, I think a lot of people get in relationships to fill a void that's within themselves. In the case of the woman in this video and her husband, I believe the husband never was a whole person. They were probably seeking out the woman to fill an emptiness in themselves instead of filling that emptiness as an individual first before getting into a relationship. Unfortunately She had to pay the price that he should have paid before even being with her. And even if he discovered that he was evolving as an adult, he should disclose that change when it started to percolate. As a grown adult that is his responsibility. Emotionally he was not behaving as a fully actualized adult and was expecting his partner to be the parent that possibly one or both of his parents were not.
