Prophetic Gifting vs Calling: How to Know Which You Carry

Have you ever wondered what the difference is between the gift of prophecy and the office of a prophet? I often see this confused in prophetic culture and hope to bring some clarity to the call of a prophet today.
Often people minister in prophecy through the gifts of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12) and believe this is what makes someone a prophet. However, the truth is a prophet is not a gifted person but is a gift to the Church (Ephesians 4:7). The office of a prophet is a call; it is who the person is not what the person does.
In order to be a prophet, there has to be a private encounter and a public acknowledgment. If you have a private encounter but are not acknowledged before men you are not a prophet to anyone because you are not operating in the fullness of your calling.
What I am getting at is, a prophet has a metron which is their sphere of authority. If you are operating in the office of a prophet but have no sphere of influence you will have no authority with man.
If you receive a word from the Lord before the mantel on your life is recognized, I’d propose you are on the journey from the promise to the palace. I encourage you to practice walking in royalty, surround yourself with community, and seek the Lord. There is purpose in the process!
In this week’s blog, I share more about the gift of prophecy and the office of a prophet.

VOICE OF A PROPHET - Who Speaks for God? - A.W TOZER Chapter 10 The Sovereign Call of God (2 Kings 2:9) Men become prophets not at their own whim but by the sovereign calling of God. If God does not call the man, he cannot carry God’s message. At our Bible college we had a dean of students who firmly believed this. When someone graduated from college, he rarely helped them find a place of ministry. One day someine confronted him with this and asked why he was not more helpful. “ If,” the dean explained, “ God has called that man to ministry, God will open up the doors of ministry. If, on the other hand, mama called her son to ministry, let mama find him a place of ministry.” Perhaps the man was a little rigid in this area, but he carried a right point. If God has called someone to ministry, nothing can keep that person from that ministry. Our problem today is that ministry has become a vocational choice. Ministry is not a vocational choice; it is a sovereign call of God upon a man’s life. Nobody has a right to make a judgement in this area. - A.W TOZER.

Very helpful. Let your actions speak louder than your words, but do it within the context of honoring the leaders in your community. Let THEM declare you a prophet because of the heart and the fruit they see in your life. So good!!

Dear Kris and Allie, Thanks so much for this really great word on Gifts versus Calling. Gave me so much food for thought and for me, came at just the right time. Really appreciate you both taking the time to share this and sow into our lives. Kris, your prophetic insight has been a rich source of insight in my own journey and development and as a prophet. Allie, I've not had the honour of meeting you on a virtual platform before. Thank you for your input in this broadcast, you have natural gifting in the art of drawing out the gold in an interview process. A wonderful gift of navigating the leading of the holy spirit and steering the train of thought. You really drew out what we needed to hear thanks so much for your service too. Looking forward to more encounters and insights hopefully, you will be doing more of this. God richly bless you both, Christine

I have had true dreams since I was a child. But I started to feel disturbed that my dreams came true and knowing things before they happened. So I turned from that. About 8 years ago I was talking about the rapture and I expressed doubts about a pretribulation rapture. My husband asked me if everyone disappeared and I was left behind, would I think I wasn't saved. I flippantly and immediately said "I guess I would be one of the end time prophets" Immediately I felt a tingling on the top of my head warmth, and weight on my head. It lasted for at least 20 minutes. Now I often get that tingling though not as strong as the first time. When I pray, sing, other times out of the blue. I will get a feeling of it on my brow which I have overtime taken to mean wait. I believe I am annionted but not acknowledged. Thank you for your video. God bless. Sometimes there

Great, yes, a child of God is our identity, but He gives us gifts to use to manifest His purposes, intents and glory in this world. Too many "believers" don't know their gifts and aren't being used to build His kingdom. They just think that being nice is what they're supposed to be!

@@janet-Spirit_of_the_Living_God I never denied the gifts. Indeed we are gifted. But the speaker says the gift is our identity and that’s just plain wrong. That’s just one of the many problems in the Church and why we need a Reformation, some order stablished for us all to be more healthy and not to teach plain old 💩. Enough is enough. I’m so sick and tired to hear bad teachings. If only people would at least first teach the Word. Then we would not get in trouble making videos just for the sake to be relevant.

@@lulylucero he didn’t say “your gift is your identity”. That’s what you heard. He said “your calling is your identity”. Massive difference. I’m pretty sure Kris knows about identity in Christ. Our calling is a part of who we are. If the Lord tells you your somethin, then that something is a part of your identity, doesn’t mean it’s the whole thing but it is a part of it

@@solomonhyde my calling, my identity, doesn’t define me because it isn’t mine but a gift and a call from God. I’m nothing without Him. So, neither my calling, nor my gifts will ever define my identity. Period. You don’t need to come out to defend whoever you are defending. And if you are trying to teach me something you just failed. Maybe it wasn’t a call for you to say anything. Maybe your call is something else. Child of God, follow Christ if you want to mature as a Christian because many of the leaders some follow are just mere man and it comes a point that nothing else can be learned from people. We have too many out there trying to come out with some new teachings for the sake of staying relevant. The Word of God never gets old and we should focus on it rather than stupid teachings.

As a Brit I got to tour Idaho some years back and met more ‘Prophets’ and ‘Apostles’ than homes had a kettle to boil me water for a cup of tea. True story. One Apostle (business and all, even his Facebook name included the title) didn’t even belong to a local church 😂

Not sure what to make of this, but it's interesting. I've been told that I "am" a pastor, even without having a congregation. That makes more sense if it's a functional identity, like what was being talked about here. I would say it's like having my name written in some registry book in Heaven as a pastor even though the church doesn't exist yet. I always wanted to go to Bible school and do that but never had the opportunity. Which is why I'm here. I've been given a remarkably detailed description of a vision for a future church in a very specific place. The scale of the vision pretty well precludes it being my own invention. I haven't been excited about this particular detail, so I don't speak of it as much as the rest of it, but I believe that I've been given to know that this church will include a major prophet to be installed in that particular city. Now, I could not tell you who this prophet would be as I cannot even say for sure if I am indeed the pastor of the church in question. I can only assume I may be the pastor by default because I carry the vision. All I can tell you is that against all odds, at this season the Lord has allowed and directed us to relocate to within driving distance of the aforementioned place which He has specified. This was unplanned for and completely unexpected, as it had been thought to be financially infeasible before its occurrence. That said, if maybe I am to eventually be a pastor of a church containing an actual prophet, it seems reasonable to me, and that it is on my heart to learn now at this time, that I should know what a prophet is, what a prophet does, and what a prophet encounters so that I may perhaps be able to pastor that person effectively. I am assuming a prophet also needs a pastor, as a pastor also needs to hear God's prophet. And if the Lord should say the prophet is me, then at least all of the above would be useful to know, at least to know as far as it can be shown biblically.

Every times I ignore god bad things happen, so I’m also not currently in a church, I was hurt by last church , my whole life I have been spiritual Jesus revealing himself to me was so out of ordinary. It’s been 4 years and I ended up leaving due to my gifting always been cursed by my brothers and sisters, they didn’t understand the mystery’s I would see I was called psychic I guess I just ended up scaring people

I appreciate the straightforwardness of the video, the prophetic is very interesting to me, it’s also concerning as well, we have a prophet in our church, I’ve chatted with her and I believe she is a prophet, but all the symbolisms and prophetic encounters are strange to me. The strongest desire in my heart is to see the body of Christ rise & shine for the glory of God, but it almost seems like a show than a holy encounter. Am I wrong.

I have a question. When I was 12 years old, I was always pushed away from the norm of being with my friends, and things like that, so I devoted my time to read the Word of God, and afterwards, I'd go to a piece of property that was wooded, and I would just run through this think wooded areas, and meditate upon the Word of God I have read, which was usually the Psalms. Then, one day as I sat down to read the Bible as usual, when I opened my Bible it opened to Isaiah 61. As I began to read verse 1, I felt as if a covering was placed upon me, and the presence of God filled the room, I knew without anyone saying anything to me, that the Lord had anointed me for a spacific purpose. I have been used in the gift of prophesy, but what would this actually mean? Replies are welcomed. I do know, when I speak the Word of God over people, situations, and circumstances, that things change super naturally. Please help me to understand my calling, and office in the ministry.

Thank you for your videos. You’d mentioned (15 min) that the vocation or calling of a Prophet must be both public and private within the metron (sphere of influence). Do each ministry gifting (Apostle, Prophet, Pastor, etc) requires the same public/private confirmation? Also, how can I learn if I have a specific ministry vocation? I would assume proximity to Prophets and/or the Prophetic gifting is required for vocation confirmation ie laying on of hands. Again, thank you for unpacking and giving explanations of the callings and gifts of the Holy Spirit - we all need more of Jesus, our King. God bless, Adam

If you do not have a church in your area that is like Bethel or that supports the structure you are discussing, how do they hit those steps? Our region is very new age and striving religious where there are churches. They are focused on the saving coming from Charlie Kirk and there is a great deal of downplaying the need for prayer in the church we left after serving a decade. It became full of political anger and the Spirit was quenched. Now we are watching online and praying for direction.

One thing I will say; is that prophetic people tend to be out spoken and do not filter what they say before they speak. I see a lot of things that bring me warning in this video. First the “trophy wife” comment made to your “grand daughter”. Second the fact that you have not one scripture accounted for correctly in this teaching. Third you did not properly explain the difference between the “office” and “encouragement” of the prophetic voice. I find your sarcasm to be repulsive (as I’ve seen your other videos). And you need way more tempering sir. This is why I’ve been in hiding for over 8 years now. Because I refuse to speak idle words or allow the sarcasm to come out in my speaking because “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth will speak”. God is looking for prophetic voices that are humble, tempered, controlled by HIM, like a fire shut up in our bones! with deep renewed conviction, a spirit that will speak the truth in LOVE and in PURITY and not out of a wounded heart. THAT is what God is doing right now in the body of Christ! He is preparing HIS army the remnant! 😍🙏🏼❤️🔥

it's a boldness in Christ. because I am quiet at heart but when God uses me to speak, I speak with certainty and boldness. Jeremiah was afraid to speak, So was Moses. he even had a stutter. So being outspoken has to still be done with a spiritual boldness. so our feelings, and emotions will be taken out of it

Many could receive it as being a stumbling block as well. Kris and her may not have seen it or meant it in any certain way, but I would perceive it as being inappropriate start out conversation. We all have blind spots in our life and sometimes we need to be aware that what we might say may be construed as something else and it's okay to bring it to attention to the people that are inappropriately behaving a certain way. I've had people confront me on certain things and it doesn't mean that they care for me less in fact if anything is because they love me. I would probably perceive it the same way as something that's inappropriate.

Kris, why do you not have a copy of the bible in front of you? It would be a great help rather then talking from your head. Notice how quickly it goes from what a prophet is to it's 'all about me me me! I'd be very interested to hear Chris Rosebrough and co on this one? The video appears to break up in places, I'm not quite sure if it's me or are others seeing it? For the record. Jesus came to His home synagogue Luke 4:16ff and he eventually after prophesying to them was not accepted! Folks read scripture before reading any of these guys books!!!

What if all the leadership are in error, who then discerns truth? On the one hand you have Chris Rosbrough denying the existence of the prophetic word for today and on the other you have a lot of 'false prophets' promoting themselves without any real reference to scripture. I rest my case!

One day someone confronted him with this and asked why he was not more helpful.
