For this house, we’re bringing you on a bespoke house design showcase inside a resale 4 room HDB in Hougang! Elected as our personal favourite house interior design of 2023, we’re grateful for our clients that have given us almost full autonomy to design their dream home!
The initial design brief was simple.
With just a rough theme they wanted, knowledge of their lifestyles and their favourite colour - Teal, the rest was left to the creativity of our interior designers.
As an interior design without wood tones in play, we opted for a minimalistic luxury interior with plays of white, glass and exquisite materials. There were a number of special rearrangements, one of which is to hack down a bedroom to enlarge the living room for a 10-to-15-seater sofa and to merge it together with the dining and kitchen area. Perfect for hosting large groups of friends, we hear it became the go-to place for their friend group! Interior design is what makes or breaks a home sometimes. A common struggle of buying an old HDB flat would be the drop down in ceiling height in different areas of the home, but this was mitigated by our team’s idea of making it a featured soft curve slope that softened visual discrepancies.
The centerpiece of the whole apartment would definitely be their kitchen island with a dining table, crafted with fine materials. Utilizing a granite top, fluted paneling and sintered slab, it’s uniquely suspended with glass instead of a normal islands’ laminate finishing. It adds a light, airy feel to the house, especially when accompanied by ghost chairs. With an or else matching theme to the dining, teal KitKat tiles tastefully stand out as the kitchen backsplash. As an interior design hack from us, never undermine textures in interiors. Having different textures allows you to add dimension and depth to an otherwise regular home.
Apart from just the full hacking and reconstruction of the apartment, there were as little build-in carpentry as possible in order to give space for the soft touches that adds the character of the homeowners into the place.
