Training Your Puppy To Stack For The Show Ring

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Do you have a new, show-hopeful puppy? In this video, Allison and Breezy the Saluki puppy shows you where to start with your stacking training for the conformation show ring.
No matter your breed’s size and whether they are stacked on the ground, table, or ramp in the ring, stacking training should start on the table… whether your puppy is a Yorkshire Terrier, Rottweiler, Poodle, Golden Retriever, or anything in between! Using ‘Happy Legs’ (AKA stacking blocks or stacking boxes) are another great tool for stacking training, and we demonstrate here how to use those, too.
Stay tuned for two new courses coming soon to Leading Edge Dog Show Academy - a Puppy grooming & handling training course, and a Saluki grooming course!

Thank you much! Showing this side of training is soooo important! People who don't understand dogs and puppies won't understand that just because they're uncomfortable doesn't mean they will always be uncomfortable. That's part of life for any living being. This is awesome! 💚

People seem to forget how children/adults are taught to do uncomfortable things.

So yes the dog may look scared but we have to remember that we need to work them through this and that is what this lady is doing, short session, and as soon as the puppy displays the wanted behavior the pressure was released and she is praised, this is how dogs learn.... this is whats called learn helplessness. Even though she is doing this for shows this also a really good way teaching your dog to be ok with being handled in all part of the body If your parents never help you though things that you were scard of you would still be scared and you would never grow and then you live and die terrified...vs working though the fear and having a care free confident dog !!!!

Thank you for sharing your tried and proven puppy show stacking. The windy rainy weather was a great option for teaching Breezy that she can trust you, and she does! It's amazing that some people have a bias towards training a dog for show, perhaps some people are unfamiliar with groomers and what it takes to groom house pets. Many dogs love to show and "showoff" to please handler, owner, judges, and audience.

The puppy may be nervous. She did say they just met. Salukis tend to attach to one or two people, and older ones tend to ignore anyone else. They are also a desert breed meant to chase hare and gazelle in extremely hot weather. So anything below 70°F is cold to them.

That dog is terrified, no learning can happen there.. tail tucked in, whole body shivering… are you that blind to the dogs body language?

That isn't unusual in Salukis. It sounds like it is their first lesson together and that they are outside. Salukis are an ancient desert breed. We have archeological evidence of them as far back as Mesopotamia, and they likely were around longer. They still have wild Salukis in Saudi Arabia. So even if it is 50°F a dog of that age will be chilly.

sighthounds naturally tuck their tails and are very intolerant to colder weather🤦🏻‍♀️body language for one dog does not apply for every other dog ever

It’s a puppy, and it’s her first lesson. Don’t be so judgemental, this lady knows what she’s doing and she’s treating the dog very nicely

There is always a context we need to remember when looking at a dogs body language. In this situation there was chilly breeze so that is why the dog was shivering.
