    My dog would NOT stand still. I had to stack him on a grooming table so he would stop walking and wiggling!

    Great share for those wanting to learn the ropes for a show dog. My Dogo Argentino tends to sit and go on her back for a belly rub, guessing I'll have to go under her belly to get to her feet for stacking. Hope we can have an interactive session for potential issues while training myself and my pup on stacking.

    Sorry I completely missed this! I would take him to a store and have random men give him treats and a pet. Then when he’s comfortable with that, take to a show and have men examine him. Start with very fast exams just touching the topline and slowly increase the intensity/length of exam. Also alternate between men and woman so it’s not all scary!

    Could you share what type and brand of lead you have on her in the video? It looks like a chain collar with a nylon lead, but curious if it’s one piece or something else. Looking for good show accessories for my new Aussie as he and I both learn how to compete in conformation!

    do you have advice for teaching a puppy to stack? I heard that the breeder has to begin training them from as soon as they can walk! i'm not really looking to show just more for learning (if i show in the future) and getting some nice growth pics!

    Breeder doesn’t have to start but it does help. I’d suggest getting stacking blocks to train on. And also teach stay first so that when you place the feet and say stay, they actually hold still for the photo!

    Do you have recommendations for the best way to teach a puppy to stack?

  • @sandollaraussies

    @sandollaraussies

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yes! I’ve thought about making a video for this too once I have a puppy that needs to learn. First teach them the concept of stay. Once they know that, start by stacking just the front feet and don’t worry about if the placement is correct yet. Literally just pick up foot, place anywhere, say stay, wait a few seconds and reward. Gradually increase the time of the stay and placing the feet in the right place. Make sure you don’t have food in your hand or they will wiggle around to get it. Any time they move a foot, say “no” or whatever your correction sound is and put that foot back to where it was. A solid stay command is important first! Good luck!! 😉

    She is on the small side but an Australian Shepherd. By AKC there is only one size of Aussie. The “mini” is a Miniature American Shepherd and there is no recognized toy breed.

    One thing I learned is that, you can bring the lead around your neck depending on the dog, and hold the head when you are stacking.

  • @sandollaraussies

    @sandollaraussies

    Yes depends on the breed. That is common mostly in sporting breeds but not for Aussies. Normally that is done when you want to extend the neck forward instead of up.

    Teaching a solid stay first and get some energy out before training if they are too excited. Start by stacking one leg, tell them stay, and reward after a few seconds if they stay. Slowly lengthen the time and add the other legs

    May I ask where to start with dog stacking? can you share the steps?

  • @sandollaraussies

    @sandollaraussies

    Жыл бұрын

    The first step is to teach stay so that when you do start to stack, your dog stays put. Start by picking up and placing one foot only and waiting a few seconds before rewarding. Slowly increase the time and add in more feet until you can successfully place all 4 without your dog moving.

    You can try luring them forward with a treat or train with stacking blocks. On the blocks if you push them lightly backwards, they should bring themselves forward to avoid falling off and come out of the post.
