Train Simulator 2016 - Route Learning USA: Chicago to Aurora (Metra EMD F40PH)

Ойындар

In this next route learning video, we take Metra Train 1279 on a limited stop express run from Chicago to Aurora along the 'Racetrack' route. Stops along the way include Downers Grove, Belmont, and Lisle. The locomotive hauling the train is an EMD F40PH.
You can download the 'Metra' branding for this train here:

    As a Chicagoan, I'm always glad to see this route. However, you did forget to activate HEP mode when you set up the train.

    I wasn't aware of HEP mode until after I'd made this video. I am aware of it now. I find it odd that the engine basically has to run at full power to provide power for the coaches.

    +PTGRail Ah, yes that is odd as the MP-36s that Metra use don't do that. Also, incase you ever plan on doing a run that stops at one of the shorter stations (eg. Halsted), it's worth mentioning another oddity of Metra opperations: the trains always stop with the cabcar on the platform. If that means overhanging the front half of the train, so be it.

    i wish the sound file for the F40 was better. F40PHs never rev up and down with power application. their prime movers are at a constant 893 RPM due to the HEP generator and speed is controled via the traction motors.

    The crossing right before the Brookfield water tower, and where a pre-school is, and with the mini yard right before next to the pre-school (pre-school isn't present in this route) is a very memorable crossing to me. One that neighborhood that is right of the screen is we're my grandparents used to live (they moved out bcuz the my uncle lived there and he wanted to live somewhere else because he just had a baby. FYI, after my grandparents move into my house, my Grandma died in my house, from cancer, luckily she was in a man made comma and she died at night). Also that crossing is the crossing where I saw my first trains. Damn I wish my grandma was still alive and that I would still be able to go to that crossing. :( (FYI my grandma died when she was only 67-68, she'd be 70-72 now)

    the 10mph limit in the beginning is understandable considering it's a standard Union Station full of other routes, it would have been nice to have all those other tracks filled with other Metras and a couple of Amtraks moving around so the speed limit would have made more obvious sense. Cool stuff though

  • @PTGRail

    @PTGRail

    When I travelled this route in real life, I observed that the train was going faster than 10mph at that point. So either the speed limit in the sim is wrong, or else the driver was speeding!

In addition to that, I'm still planning a run on the Norfolk Southern coal route.

    Don't use the bell at crossings in the US.

    I've heard bells used at crossings on certain cab ride videos. Were those drivers incorrect? I've always been confused over the horn/bell rules.

    When you're allowed to use your horn, at crossings, you do 2 long blasts, 1 short, then 1 long. I'm pretty sure you don't use your bell at crossings. I may be wrong but i'm almost 100% sure.

    @@pinggaming9568 I don't know where you live, but bells are commonly used at railroad crossings. I doubt the quiet zones are even quiet.
