I married my soldier 57 years ago and lost him 9 months ago. He served his 4 years in Vietman, but he was still a soldier the day he died. I just listened to Trace Adkins sing this song again. I'm still, and will always be, the wife of my soldier. My thanks every time I hear this song.

I hope somebody told him welcome home out of every war we have fought they were the ones that did not receive praise they were spat on criticized and demonized I hope that somebody in his life told him welcome home I try and say that to every vet that comes my way because it doesn't matter if you fought world war 1 world war 2 Vietnam Desert Storm or any other major conflict that has happened I don't tell them thank you for your service no I tell them welcome home and I pray that anyone who has eyes says the same thing for it is not the battles they have fought in that makes it noteworthy but the blood tears and pain they have suffered to keep the rest of us from having to experience the hardships they have so to your soldier the next time you visit his grave tell him from me welcome home

Buckeye colt your story sounds exactly like my son's he was also medically retired from the army he served 3 years as well his injury was due to a helicopter hitting turbulence at the same time he opened the door to jump.6 Hairline fracures to his skull.

Great song. My son was a member of the 82nd Airborne, 1-505th PIR. Medically (honorably) discharged from injuries thanks to an IED. PTSD is also a problem, but he is a guide for the wounded veterans of Oklahoma by taking them hunting on weekends during waterfowl seasons. Our daughter-in-law sees that it helps him also. His issues with PTSD aren't close to what they used to be. God bless all of our troops.

@Jon Hillard Thank you Jon, and please pass along our thanks to him as well. Our son's biggest injuries are the kind you can't see, and it breaks my heart that he can't get the help he needs. We are so grateful for the daughter we gained the day she married our son in 2012. We live 500 miles apart, and it's easier for us to travel than it is for them with 3 kids. He will open up to his dad rather than me, but our daughter-in-law tells me things so that I know what he is going through also. We never judge, and he knows he can talk to us, at least he can his dad. Take care Jon!

Just remember this quote: Fight because you love what's behind you, not because you hate what's in front of you (I know it didn't go exactly like it, but you get my point) My father is serving (dog trainer) in the DPR army, (east Ukraine, civil war) and so basically your enemy, but I know that he will respect you as much as he would respect an fellow soldier. It's not about wanting to kill curtain races or destroy curtain country's, it's about showing your loyalty to your country, to YOUR ideology and most of all, to what YOU believe is good.

My Great Uncles and Grandfather waded into the hell that was WWII, my Father served during Vietnam, many friends/family since then. I was a British soldier for 30 years I fought in five wars for my country and it's true what this song says, my wife says that I am still in the army, but what did we really fight for when the youth of today have forgotten that the freedom and liberty that they enjoy today men and women fought and died for them

You never lose it. If it's truly in your blood, you just never lose it. You still subconsciously fall into a March when you are walking down the road with a friend. You never forget how to salute. this old lady's been there and done that.

I am navy veteran served over almost 20 years. I also lost a love of my life who died in combat serving our country. Will always be American soldier. I love the part especially with trace Adkins raspy voice even though he wrote if before Rich athletes without a case in terms world and more likely to be shot when. They visit their old neighborhoods of see from and family and one their own kind shoots them out of jealousy but if a police officer pulled them over which would most likely be in the state of the team they play for so even better odds they'd get a pass and asked for a picture and autograph. Because they get play sports for outrageous contracts and live lives only most Americans can dream of and the whole reason they get to is because of the flag that represents the same nation their so called protesting made upload statistics mors white then Latin men are shot daily by police usually for good reasons. But black men are killed daily or more likely to be by other black men. But these disgraceful athletes kneel for the Most un-racist or hateful song and we'll our national most important song that is about our for Father's and everyone who serves but people supporting these athletes call them hero's for being hateful but if they'd listen to the anthem they'd learn what @ hero is not someone who wears pads.and thing their warriors. This is such a perfect song for all soldiers. I never served in the American Army. But I did serve my country in Canada in the Canadian Military for 35 years. I just retired 26 December 2021. I felt lost for awhile but I will always be a soldier. I have done 3 tours in Bosnia, 1 in Somolia, 1 in the Middle East and 2 tours in Afghanistan. Anyway love Trace Adkins wish he would come to Canada I would love to see him.

When my recruiter asked me why I wanted to enlist in the Army I think my answer surprised him. I said "this country has given me all I could ever ask. Good schools, a safe place to grow up, freedom. I think it's time I repaid some of that." My dad was with me and I heard him sniffle a bit. It took the sergeant a minute to respond and when he did he looked at my dad and said "I wish more of my recruits felt that way." Unfortunately an eye issue kept me from serving, something I have regretted ever since. It would have been an honor and a privilege to be able to wear my country's uniform.

As a Veteran of 12 years in the USAF, that salute at the end got me! They may of taken my uniform from me but they can never take my Patriotism! I joined for the right reasons! I wanted to serve my country and I did selflessly. I was wrongfully discharged and it hurts more than anything because I really do feel I bleed Red, White and Blue!! God Bless the USA! Trace Adkins sing's this song so good! This song reminds me of my late husband who was in Vietnam for 3 yrs. He was in the Army and served with the 101st Airborne division. He passed away March 2009. That Agent Orange got him that our stupid Government sprayed over there. Towards the end of his life, Bill was in so much pain. I miss him a lot! God bless all of you who served our Country!!

I married my soldier 12 years ago and I buried him 6 years ago. There's nothing like being married to a soldier and I would do anything to have him back. He served in Desert Storm. His lungs turned to glass from the oil well fires Saddam Hussain set as he was leaving the country. He is one of the strongest, smartest men I EVER knew.

I have the utmost respect for your you and your comment. I was in your shoes for 18 yrs awaiting to legally immigrate to this country and I joined the armed forces 4 months upon arrival. Got naturalized as a U.S. citizen during basic training's graduation ceremony. It was, and it is the PROUDEST moment of my almost 4 decades breathing on this world. I will ALWAYS stand when I hear the anthem. I frown when i see people sit and not caring when the anthem is being played.

I have cousins on the wall, brother in Arlington, I served 20 and would bleed and die today for America. Blessed to be free. It never goes away, I cry when I hear the anthem and pray for those who never came home. I love this land.

Three tours in that nightmare country known as Afghanistan. Two of them in the Korengal Valley. There's days I wish I was back there.. just doing what we did best. 75th Ranger regiment 3rd Battalion. We got it done and we got it done very very efficiently. But you know what they don't train you to do? They don't train him to deal with the crippling PTSD depression anxiety the nightmares the faces that you see sometimes when you close your eyes if you don't want to see. Just all of that they do not teach you or do a whole lot to get you better or keep tabs well enough to make sure that you're all right. Sometimes you know these things need to happen war is hell and sometimes it needs to happen but the 20 years in Afghanistan we should not have been there for 20 years we could have been there for like I don't know 10 would have been more than enough. you know those people have been invaded seven times throughout history? Yeah people wanted to change their way of life or they wanted to take everything from them. Those Afghan you people all of them are the Taliban isis just the locals there a very prideful people and we changed absolutely fucking nothing. Only now they have a trillion dollars worth of our military hardware. There's m1 Abrams rolling around with fucking Taliban flags flying high the isis flag flying high there's 10 year-old boys with M16 A3 rifles in their hand. Little girls don't even get to go to school. They're used for reproduction purposes starting at absurdly Young ages.... It's sickening. Women aren't allowed outside without their husbands. And when they do go outside complete coverage except the eyes now just like it used to be. It's awful over there. I mean it's their way of life but still...

My grandpa was a ww2 marine and I remember as a kid he would count to himself quietly as he held me and I asked why. He said he was counting the seconds and minutes away from when bombs would drop in his fox hole. I felt sad to understand, that he still heard thunder in his old age. I asked him at seven what my future was and he said I was going to have a hard life and he was right. He was a Pisces and wise. This song reminds me of him. :( He made me toys by hand ( wooden wagon) and took me to the parks when he had cancer. He will always be my 💓 soldier and BFF. My respect to all the outstanding men who go the distance and women who loved their soldiers. Then and now.

He came to shake our hands and say thank you before we deployed to Afghanistan in 2012. Hell of a guy and very humble!!
