I had a chance to meet Toby and you could just feel his passion for all military personnel just radiating off him. This song has always brought tears to my eyes. You will forever be missed Toby! I hope you realized what your music meant to so many of us! RIP Brother!! Now that I’m retired I realize I was somebody, and never felt more proud than when I was in that uniform!

I've been watching Toby's songs and his interviews all day. My youngest son told me of his passing when I got up. I served 6 years with my local Army National Guard Field Artillery Unit, 1982-88. A big part of my family and friends are veterans- from various times and various military branches. I've always loved Toby's songs. But this one and all his other patriotic songs really get me. I'm 60 now, big and tough and rough around the edges. But I've been crying on and off all day. We love you Toby ! Go easy Brother....

"He boldly made his mark in the country music industry but quietly lived out his last days with an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ turning to prayer in the midst of one of the most challenging times in his life. "Toby Keith passed peacefully last night on Feb. 5 surrounded by his family," read a statement posted by his family on X. "He fought his fight with grace and courage." " He's with your dad, my parents and grandparents and everyone else in Heaven with Jesus.

This song, always brings me to tears every time. My best friend served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He was lucky enough to watch you perform during one of his tours. I will never forget him telling me how he bawled like a baby hearing this song live. It was one of the highlights of his career. He was injured overseas and developed an infection he spent a month in a hospital overseas recovering and he had only been home 2 nights and on the third day he passed away the infection had spread unknowingly to the pericardium, which is the sack around your heart. No doubt all of the American soldiers were awaiting your arrival at the pearly gates to give you a much deserved heroes welcome. I hope you knew what you meant to the armed forces serving overseas. Rest In Peace! 💐✝️🙏

And as a lady who is your age and I love your Music, I am Heart Broken for your Wife and Children, your family and Friends and yes, your fans. We are grieving losing you. But as someone who lost a best friend of stomach cancer in 2017, I truly understand what you have been through and how much you were suffering, so even though it hurts like hell that you are gone, that hurt is selfish, and having the understanding that I have of that cancer, I know that your suffering here on earth is over, for that I am grateful!! RIP Cowboy and Fly High!!🙏♥️🙏

Just a random guy from the UK here. To my US friends, you've lost an icon. Wishing you and your loved ones all the best. Toby Keith was the sound of my time in the US. I can compartmentalise that part of my life, but I didn't think I'd have to do it so soon for an artist... ...but that's nothing compared to the sacrifices our (combined) Armed Forces and their families have made. I just know they're all enjoying a few beers and keeping the seats warm for when we join them. It'd be rude to join a table without a cold one. Best, Sk901

My father was only 19 when he was sent to Luzon in the Philippines during WWII. He returned thin, worn and changed. Back then, you didn't have PTSD, you just sucked it up and kept going. Haunted by what he had done and seen, he turned to drink. When I was born, he was a full-fledged alcoholic, abuser and chronically unemployed. He died of liver failure at only 34 years of age. I still carry the broken bones and scars he gave me, as well as the mental and emotional scars. Flash forward twenty years, Vietnam and then Desert Storm. Against my family's wishes, I joined the military and It was my turn to face the limits of my humanity and courage. I too killed, and cried and lay awake at night staring into the darkness. I could have easily become him, but I managed to hold onto myself through the love of others and the faith and loyalty of my comrades. I was one of the lucky ones. Do I hate my father for what he became? No. Not anymore. Many in WWII were killed, and many others broken beyond repair. It took me facing the same horror and conflict that he experienced for me to understand. While I may never be able to love you Dad, at least now, I understand you. Rest in peace, your namesake (your Grandson), would have made you proud.

TOBY DID THIS FOR THE AMERICAN MILITARY, THE SHEEP DOGS IN OUR COUNTRY. RIP TOBY FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS TO OUR MILITARY BECAUSE YOU UNDERSTOOD US, THE SHEEP DOGS. In this world there are sheep, wolves, and sheepdogs. Some people prefer to believe that evil doesn’t exist in the world. If there were ever danger on their doorsteps, they wouldn’t know how to protect themselves . Those are the sheep. And then you’ve got predators, who use violence to prey on the weak. Those are wolves. And then there are those who were blessed with the gift of aggression, with an overpowering need to protect the flock. These people are the rare breed who live to confront the wolf. They are the sheepdogs.

We truly truly Thank you ALL every day for all that You do!!!!

Blessed be the Lord, my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle; he is my steadfast love and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield and he in whom I take refuge, who subdues peoples under me" "Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends."
