@@sargehill67rudnick38 people think troops and wars are done. I lost my brother Jennings in 2014 deployed 9 months in the Persian gulf away from Iraq and we still got hit doing a snoopy scout run (I was on the George h.w. bush) a bomb exploded on a suicide fishing vessel killing Jennings instantly And I remerber that moment when I sleep when I eat when I think. It just doesn't go away. I'm sorry for whom you lost brother. I think of everything I could find to save him but my only peace is knowing he didn't suffer at least and that outcome just doesn't want to settle with me.

_Arlington National Cemetery_ is located in one of the largest metropolitan areas in the country. And yet, there are places you can stand and not see anything but beautifully maintained grass and gleaming white headstones. You can't hear or see the city that surrounds it. It's humbling. What really got me, was seeing my family name on a gravestone. Coming across that grave so unexpectedly took the wind out of me.

As president regan said: arlington national cemetery, with its row upon row of simple white marker, bearing crosses and stars of david, add up to only a fraction of the price has been paid for our freedom." The soldiers arent the only ones that have paid. The families of the soldiers have as well. I dont mean that what the soldiers did was less. As someone who has already taken the asvab and has enlistment planned for next year i understand what the price is, and I say that both parties have paid dearly. Thats just my opinion though.

Thank you for the song. I cried a little, but it helps me as I am so far away in India, never knowing when I can see that grave again. Maybe next March when it his 10th year of graduation to heaven. I respect all soldiers as my father and uncle where in the us navy, but you need to understand that the flag isn't the United States. And it's your right constitutionally to kneal during the anthem. I understand how you feel, but that's not how this works. It is their first amendment right to do just that. You don't have to agree with it, cause I sure don't but you have to understand just cause you don't like it does not mean people can't do it.

My dad has been retired for 6 or 7 years (I think), but he proudly served 23 years in the Navy. He served in Desert Storm (if I remember correctly he could be buried in Arlington if he chooses so). I know the initial inspiration Mr. Adkins had for writing this song. Mr. Adkins meet the father of the young Marine whose picture and headstone is shown in this video and the conversation with Mr.Nixon led to the writing of the song.Patrick Nixon was a young man with plans to become a teacher when he got out of the Marine Corp. He also made it known to his family that his wishes were to be buried at Arlington Cemetary if he lost his life while serving our country. Unfortunately for him and all who knew and love him; he "made it to Arlington." I knew Patrick, not as well as the rest of my family...my mother babysat him as a young boy, my sister is married to his brother, my daughters knew Pat and my family loves Patrick always. People who make judgements about Mr. Adkins reasons for writing "Arlington" just don't know what the real premise behind writing this song was. It was not politically motivated at all. It reflects a soldiers true story, one that many soldiers buried in Arlington and all of our other military cemetaries across the country share. The song is a true story and tribute to all our fallen heroes. Heroes that never wanted to be heroes, they wanted to help militarily as best as they could and they knew what it could cost them. Many soldiers have given their life and some where taken from them due to carelessness of their own fellow soldiers and commanders. Family and friends of each of these fallen soldiers love and miss them. Stop being mean and negative regarding this song. There are many of us who understand the real meaning of this song. Sad that you haters just don't get the message.

Dear Zak, I write as a former US Marine. I do so to convey my heartfelt (and undying) gratitude, not just for your boy's giving it all in Iraq (and I would guess that he gave it all so others might live)..but to you also, who are left to carry on and, everyday, continue to bear his loss. So, you too are making an immeasurable sacrifice. You gave your son for us, and miss him each day. /s/Scott L. Adkins Capt. (USMC)

In 1968, my family took a trip to Arlington. My parents, my sister, and myself, as well as my grandmother and her older sister went to visit the grave of my grandmother's oldest brother. He was kilked 24 Oct 1918. Just a couple of weeks before WWI ended. Most of her family had never visited his grave. I was completely awestruck at the enormous size of the cemetery. It seems there were an endless number of tombstones, no matter which direction you looked.

This song is an emotional one. I have some military veterans in my family, so does Tyler. He told me on veterans day that both his dad and grandpa served in the military for 26 years. When he told me that I told him,"Tell them I said thanks for serving our country."🇺🇸 Tyler told me,"I will." So yeah, he's the son AND grandson of military veterans and I'm the niece of three military veterans. I guess that's another thing we have in common, we BOTH have family members that served in the military for our country.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

I'm a retired K9 handler from the US Air Force with a collective 1,481 deployed down range. I say that to put the irony of this short story into perspective. I had stopped at a gas station while in uniform and had this really old man approach me, stick his hand out, and attempt to thank me for my service. At first I didn't think anything of it and just about to go through the motions when I noticed his hat. He was a WW2, Korea, and Veitnam Vet. I stopped him dead in his tracks and told him he has no business thanking me. After all, I just walked the road he paved. Songs like this make me think of men like him. Legends. Every one of them.

Thousands of us listening to a man who told us he was proud to be over there playing for us, and I was thankful that he took time away from his touring, and from his family to spend time with us. His son was a CPT at the time too- so his family was directly involved & serving.
