    Great video. Can you also make a video why high speed offroad cars like this use twin coil springs instead of a single but stiffer one that could handle the same weight? Whats the advantage of using 2x spring instead of one at each wheel. I can only think of a disadvantage and that would be higher unsprung mass but this is done a lot so im missing something here that gives twin coils an advantage over a single setup. What am i missing?

    In the past the main problem was the maximum allowed wheel travel of 280mm, which is even less than a WRC car. So you need to absorb the energy of a nearly 2t truck with that short wheel travel when it's jumping. You could design a damper which can do that but it would be quite fat and a pretty expensive custom solution. So instead teams use dampers, that are already there and use two per wheel to increase damping. With the new T1+ regulations wheel travel was increased to 350mm which helps a lot and Audi can even get away with only one damper per wheel now.

    We'll, you say "get away", Peterhansel says "why am I driving a tricycle?" - just kidding, I'm sure it wasn't a damper that broke there. edit: well, just today Carlos broke a damper and Peterhansel had to give him one of his :P

    I meant they could win a stage with the etron. But true, looks like they still need to improve their damper situation...

    Thanks for your walk around of the new T1+ from Toyota. I wondered what they've done with the Snorkel for the air intake, it seems to have been left off now or is it integral to the RH "A" pilar? thanks.

    How do the filter the sand out of the intake air? Do normal filters provide enough?

  • @benburris4735

    @benburris4735

    They offset the inlet going into the filter to "pre-filter" using centrifugal force, spinning the air into a tighter radius than the dust can follow, trapping a higher percentage in the filter.

    T1 ARE JUST FANTASTIC and Nasser is a great pilot and a super friendly person Audi took to the Dakar the most senseless car of the history, an electric car with a turbocharge engine of 400 hp that burns as much fuels as other cars... and weights half a ton more... I hope they dont even make it to the end

    I mean.. Every Rally Raid car does not have their road car resemblance, not just the Hilux. You think the VW Touareg Dakar or the Mini is the same as the road one? Of course not. At the very least the Hilux T1+ still very closely resembles their road car counterpart a lot more compared to many other Rally Raid cars.

    @@emiliojosevaca Yup, this is true. The Land Cruiser 200 has been the Dakar King in the production car category for so many years now (They won it again this year and will be replaced by the new 300 series next year)
