Toyota GR86 Ultimate Buyers Guide | WATCH THIS FIRST

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

👋 In todays video we are going over the Toyota GR86 and what this car is about and the costs associated with owning this car! The Toyota GR86 is generations in the making of a fun front engine, rear wheel drive sportscar from Toyota! This dates back to the AE86 Corolla GTS! Of course Toyota also had the infamous Supra, but after that was stopped with production, Toyota eventually started to bring back the sportscar and started off with it's Scion tC! I forgot to mention that car, but it's the only front wheel drive version they made. So lets start with the Scion FR-S! This was a fun, affordable sportscar that was meant to draw in a younger crowd! That lasted several years before Toyota axed Scion and rebranded the car as a Toyota GT86. After that generation, Toyota changed the name yet again to the current model, GR86. This is now apart of the GR group with the Supra and Corolla for Gazoo Racing, which is Toyotas motorsports division!
Toyota has made a great leap in providing fun and reliable sportscars that do range in price, but you can get into an "entry" level sportscar for not much!
The Toyota GR86 also has it's sister the Subaru BRZ which has been along side the Toyota for several years! Both of these are excellent sportscars with a good bit of options depending on what works best for you!
These cars are also easy to maintain and depending on your driving history, etc, can be cheap to insure and keep on the road!
Let me know if you have any questions on this Toyota GR86 if you are in the market for one. I highly recommend this car as a first car, or just a fun inexpensive sportscar to buy to enjoy a drivers car!

    Ordered my GR86 in August last year, just delivered. Had full ppf applied and ceramic (from the dealer, over and had to wait for ppf application from outside shop, but 5 year interior/exterior full warranty inside/outside for the new car that they nicely waited for ppf first and then applied after) applied. I dont care how silly people say this is. After full price destination, full 100% ppf, ceramic....ends up with from the dealer lifetime warranty on powertrain (Toyota of North Canton Ohio), Xpel 10 year ppf warranty, 5 year ceramic interior/exterior warranty, 10 year bumper to bumper extended warranty from the dealer....$39,759.49

    Hey dude nice vid! I will say.... engine failure due to oil starvation is not because of the RTV. It is actually due to sustained right hand turns on track because of the oil pan and oil pickup design. The oil is shifted to one side at high speed cornering and not being picked up by the engine.

  • @TypeVertigo

    @TypeVertigo

    2 ай бұрын

    And the fix for this depends on the use case. Most folks who drive their cars in the canyons can get away with a half-liter/half-quart oil overfill, while serious track rats will be well served by an external oil accumulator (e.g. Accusump or Moroso). A middle-of-the-road solution is either adding a baffle to the oil pan (SYMS seems the best reviewed of the lot) or an aftermarket larger capacity oil pan, which is currently being developed by Verus with good test results on track from @900BRZ.

    5:40 it’s a controversial and different topic. But I will say power or the amount of cylinders doesn’t always determine the value of things. Sometimes it doesn’t justify the price either. For example, a car might have a big V8 that makes a lot of power, but maybe someone else might think the interior quality isn’t as nice, or maybe it’s lacking some features. Or you could have a car that has a really nice interior and fancy features, but it lacks power. Everything is only worth as much as you’re willing to pay. At least that’s the way I see it lol

    @@BrosFOURRSpeed there was an increase in HP to 205 for manuals, the final drive the transmission had changed increasing the acceleration. Even some people w the GR will look for differentials from the refresh gen 1 to increase acceleration as they went back to the old drive for the GR series. And if I recall I think they increased the speed of the steering rack for sharper handling. Also some other mechanical improvements to the engine. Just an overall refresh that helped with the feel of the car.

    @@BrosFOURRSpeed yep. You’re correct. There’s big improvements in the GR that can’t be understated. The transmission however is transferable and has a shorter final drive which can still improve acceleration in the newer one with a shorter final drive. This means you get to shift more often and enjoy the action of doing so. Check out The Topher who did it in his 2023 BRZ. His video explains it. How does it compare to the 370z Nismo? There is a part of me that feels that replacing the Z with the GR86 - would update the entertainment factor; still have the fun factor but since I live in TX - I wonder if the lack of straight line speed would be missed (not to say my Z would be that much faster but I even feel the Z feels slow - although I feel like most of that is due to the weight).

But the 86 is lighter and just super tossable. 86 is definitely slow in a line. So if you don't have super tight roads with lots of curves, you might get bored.

I was more wondering how the new gen GR86/BRZ compares to the 370z since what I have heard - is that it is a much better car now compared to the previous gen. I'm just wondering if the new/current gen has caught up or even surpassed the driving experience of the Z. Granted - straight line speed I would imagine goes to the Z but is it closer than one would think? Anyway - great content and great cars as always :)

    I ordered the BRZ over the GR86. The main reason is it's a Subaru motor. Subaru motors are Boxer Motors; while Toyota's do not use Boxer motors. Should an issue with the engine happen; I would feel much better having the mechanic the knows Boxer Motors, over those that do not work on them regularly. As for the RTV issue it's still happening; but the problem seems to happen when tracking the cars (to some of them). If you are not tracking the car and you change your oil often, you should be okay.
