Tough Day Fishing Poore Lake but I Learned a Lot for Next Time

I tried everything I had in any way I could present it but I just couldn't make it work. I'll be heading back soon.

Another example of "a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work". I envy every trip you take, hiking, scenery, fishing.

Right on. I just ordered some 2 and a half inch brown tube jigs with 1/4oz jig heads to try there and a few other places. They should resemble those baby trout and I will be able to cast them a mile. I plan to go back sooner than later.

I'm going back. I already ordered stuff for it and dug up stuff out of my long lost tackle supply to see if I can figure it out. There are really nice fish there and a 6 mile day hike in the heat is worth going for a round two as far as I'm concerned. We will see how it goes sooner rather than later.

Need try crickets on a clear bobber at those alpine lakes! If it makes you feel better I didn’t have the great of a day fishing either! But a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work..

You should have gone up to Leavitt Lake for the golden trout. You can park on the lake if you have a 4X4. Beautiful spot. Pacific Crest Trail is straight up the backside of the Lake.

LOL this skunk just fueled you to return Poore lake and land some brookies, days like this happen more than any of us would like it too. But when it happens to you I know it a TOUGH day, I like how you recounted everything you tried. Great information and content from the trip regardless. Looking forward to where your next adventure.

I always had a cast a bubble with some flies. You can fill it about half or 3/4 way with water you cast it way out there. Has a tendency to get tangled but is effective in the high mountain lakes. Emerger pattern, nymph?

Right on. Sooner rather than later we'll get to see if the 2 and a half inch brown tube jigs and 1/4oz jig heads I just ordered will work. Spoons might be part of the attack as well. I will have a much broader selection next time. I rolled up there with my usual alpine lake selection and it did not work out at all.

That's why they don't call it catching. In my experience, lakes like that require a boat, kayak, canoe, etc. I've fished lakes in some kind of floating thing and looked for structure.

Panther matins have been a part of my fishing package since I was in muddle school. I have a few clips on my fishing tips playlist demonstrating different ways I like to fish them.

@wildernesswithamani1027 I'm an older guy. Just turned 79. Last visited poore lske 2015. Decided after that trip that it was a little more than I could still handle. Caught 2 decent brookies that trip. Some of best eating fish. We only took out what we wanted for dinner. Meat on fish if deep orange and red. Fish usually in 16 to 18 inch range but ocsssionally 21 22 inch. Beautiful coloring. Fished there for 40 years. Will try to send some pics
