I kind of like my own KZread channel :-) www.youtube.com/@ShadowMakerSdR Although that's still a bit in progress as to what it's trying to be about. But mostly Fusion. And music videos. And puppets.
The manual is 4,204 pages, in .PDF format. It has proper links in the TOC, and is incredibly well written. I am a former technical writer. I have huge complaints about almost everything I read. But I was really impressed with their manual. They even have tutorials, with sample files to work with. My only problem is that it can feel overwhelming.
Great to see you back on Fridays, I was getting withdrawal symptoms. Greatest respects to you as you have taught me so much in the past year. I wish you health, wealth and happiness in 2024. 👍👍
When it's as interesting as you normally make them they always feel way shorter than 5 minutes as time flies 😊
I've always looked forward to your 5 minute Fridays and happy that they will continue. Happy New Year.
Looking very much forward to another year of learning from you. You demonstrate what to do and where to click at the perfect speed for me. I really enjoy your channel
Happy New Year Mr. Alex. Looking forward to what you have for us in 2024. Thanks for all you do.
Happy new year mralextech… love this new chapters of videos
This is the series I have been waiting for👍
Awesome video as always Mr.Alex can't wait for what's coming!!!
this news just made my whole year better! looking forward to more content from you.
Happy New Year Alex. Best instructional videos on KZread.
Happy New Year Alex. Nice to see 5 minute Fridays return.
As a noob I appreciate your content. Hopefully...... scratch that! I'll make time to learn and practice. Thanks Alex
Sound great, I can't wait. Thanks
Excellent! Very glad you are back and well. 🏋🏼♂️😃
I look forward to watching these trainings every Friday!
Alex my boy you are the man. I've learned so much from you and I'm keen for more keep up the great work
Hey! Thank you. I’ve been using da Vinci for a while, but going back to the basics I’m sure I will pick up things here and there. Really appreciate your good work. Thank you Mucho!
You are doing great work man... i am loving your stuff.
Thanks Alex. I am excited to learn more about resolve! Let's go!!!
Five minutes is perfect! Thank you!! 🌟🌟
Exactly what I’ve been looking for! Thank you
Happy New Year sir. I think re-starting 5 minute Fridays is a great idea and I'm looking forward to it. Even after all this time, I keep popping into your back-catalogue of 5 minute tutorials when I get stuck or have a brain fart. And I'm guessing that your new episodes will add a new perspective on old subject matter which has evolved as Resolve has evolved. I had my first go using "Magic Masks" on my latest masterpiece with its intro title. It only lasted a couple of seconds and was clunky, but your tutorial helped speed up my learning curve. My last attempt was before the invention of "Magic Masks" and involved key frames. Took a sodding day to achieve and lasted two seconds. 😵💫😵💫
I started watching Alex a couple of years ago, and I've gotta say I've learned to be a much faster and more competent editor! Definitely worth tuning in if you want to learn the craft!
😇 I didn't know about the manual, so this was great to find out. Excellent video as always!
Thanks! Glad to see some of the tutorial recs (I've used a few... Casey; Qazman; and Mostyn; and your vids as well.). So glad you are doing this as it's an easy review for me. I got into it about 3 years back. Did a bunch of training but life took over. Trying to do some to refresh my mind on it and so I'm very happy to see these videos.
New Subscriber, looking forward to more videos exactly like this, walking me through the basics. This video was spot on!
Looking forward to Fridays!!!!
Happy new year. You asked for ideas for a training session. I would like an in depth tutorial on the cache when to use user and when to use smart etc. Seems easy but there are several nuances which need explaining. So there you go Alex 🎉
Great one! Basic tracking video would be grand!! And do miss the next one so we can be in with a chance of getting the full version….😉👌🏻📽️
Whoohoo! Looking forward to more 5ishMF!
Happy new year Alex
Great! Just what i need! Will follow this closely!
🔥Great info for beginners, and you've chosen an amazing incentive to keep you consistent! 😆
Sounds great!
Lol ok I like the idea Mr.A! lets go, I'm sure I will learn a lot so that a win for me already 🙌
although I'm not technically a total beginner I've watched the video because I love your videos and they're so informative
Whoa I've never seen the training page yet, definitely need to check that out! Looking forward to weekly 5MF~
Keep it up man! You´ve helped me alot with my videos. So please don´t stop makeing content! :D
Thanks Alex
Decided to learn to edit on the 1st of the year, went through the first tutorial and watched way to many videos but I look forward to more every week lol
Very good! Davinci Is super combiner for video.
Consider covering the speed editor in the series. I am new to DR and bought it since it came with Studio. I love it!
Excellent Intro. Thank you! As a video editing hobbyist, I was hoping Studio would go on sale, like it did late 2022. I'm still tempted to buy it because the price was $495 before 2023 and $295 is a good deal. Like you said, it will enable all features, allowing my RTX 3070 TI to go into overdrive. 🤩 Prorating the cost over 3 years is just under $100 per year. Correct? I also like the fact that one-time purchase covers future upgrades.
Time well spent 👊
Alex, would you please do an instructional video on how to best store your projects as well as cache, renders, auto save etc for "Studio" if not both for greatest organizational efficiency. Thanks and Happy Editing
Nice one
Thanks for keeping up the good work, Alex! Your vids have taught me a lot! I'm looking for a tutorial on how to make a person get sucked into a screen/monitor, but I haven't found one on all of the internet! Anything you could assist with perhaps?
Instrukcja fajna sprawa, ale 5 minut na Twoim kanale i nawet przez 5 lat Free Davinci Resolve wystarcza do ciekawych montaży. Fajnie, że wróciły 5 minutowe piątki. 👌👍
Hey Alex, big fan of the channel! Thanks for all your tutorials. I have a request for one, if this is even possible... How can you have a project set up with multiple timeline formats? For example a Timeline in Vertical Format (For TikTok/IG Reels) and another in Horizontal Format (For KZread) but in the same project? I can't seem to find information on this and I'm sure it's something a lot of people are looking for!
🖐️ Professor Could you make a series about the more obscure modifiers, and their potential use cases? I opened the radar fusion template once (it's with resolve), and it has some cool ways to do things.
Alex, you are producing multiple videos a week, so it seems rather picayune to ask, where you identified the seven tabs, if you had highlighted each one in turn (in time) would it have made a difference impact-fully speaking? I generally enjoy your content very much! 😎
I love those 5 min Fridays! Happy to see they’re back! Question for you Alex: how in heaven can I get DV Resolve to start in the Edit page? It always opens in the Cut page. Or is it even possible? I searched the web for answers without much success.
@nls3081
5 ай бұрын
the only fix that i know for that, is to disable the Cut Page "forever": Workspace - Show Page - uncheck "Cut". Then you won't be able to access it again, until you reactivate it.

@@nls3081 Yeah.. that's the only workaround I found too.

Nice 👍🏼
Awesome, looking forward to learning. Would love a topic on file management, for example once I finish a project I move the whole folder, with videos, audio etc off my main drive onto an archive drive. If I attempt to open the project from the archive drive the timeline is full of red... with everything off-line. Everything must be references with full path names rather than relative path names. What is best practice for managing this?
I'm kind of hoping you do a video about editing 360 video. That is the main reason I paid for the Studio version, but I'm having a bit of trouble wrapping my head around it all.
may i add a suggestion ... would be nice to get some hints and settings or some hardware tweaks to get things to work together
Hi Alex, thank you for these videos, they're great. A quick question though, how much faster is the render in the studio version. I've got a lenovo 7840hs, 32gb & 4070gpu laptop. Renders on a 6 min 1080p gopro video with no fusion, colour correction etc is about 2min 30 secs. Which seems way slower than people are posting, I'm assuming they are using the studio version. For reference Powerdirector 19 does the same video in 1min 20 secs.
Thank you Alex, could you do a video about inserting a clip that i forgot to use, ie as i have two cameras, i down loaded all from one camera and need to insert from the other camera if that make sense , Thank you Alex,
are there any recommended playlist of your videos? e.g. Top videos to watch after this.
One thing I haven't found.... yet is how to record my screen. (Though, truth be told, I only just learned how to do a screen capture despite having been working with computers since the 1990s.) I want to, sometimes, be able to show what's on my screen without taking a video with my camera and having it look like I took like I videoed my screen with my camera. I see loads of folks, including you, adding footage from their screens into a video in order to illustrate something (i.e., the pig.😊) I'm sure n00bs like me would appreciate that. Cheers and Happy New Year.😮
How would we find the “name” of a particular image in an image sequence on the time line? For example, let’s say the editor shuffled the image sequence on the timeline. Is there a way of clicking on an image in the timeline and finding the “name” of the image in an image sequence on the timeline?
Hi @MrAlexTech I'm curious, did you choose Davinci primarily because it's currently considered the leading video editing software, or was the decision mainly driven by price?
@MrAlexTech

When I started it was because it was free honestly. But now, I think it's just generally a really great option for anyone.
Would love to see a video explaining the difference between knowing keyboard short cuts and not. I've been transitioning from Filmora to Resolve. My memory is terrible and with any computer application I'm a mouse click and menu person, will not knowing or remembering the keyboard short cuts significantly slow me down as an editor? If I should remember a few what are the top 5 short cuts?
@shlagin9354
5 ай бұрын
I've been using the free version for about 3 weeks. I started using as many shortcuts as I could, but I rarely use any at all now. The only shortcut I use regularly is control + b to cut in the timeline while in the editing window. What I find myself using quite a bit is the favorites tab in the effects window. I just drag and drop my favorited effects straight from the tab and rarely have to search for any effects anymore. One other tip: if you have 2 clips right next to eachother you can right click between them and choose a transition with varying frame counts. This is very useful when you have lots of cuts that you want a basic transition for.
@ClaytonsWoodArt
5 ай бұрын
I tend to use clips between 2-4 seconds long. Consequently, I combine the Control +B cut with the Shift +backspace “ripple delete”.
Hey Alex, happy new year! Quick question, how do I buy Davinci Resolve if my country is not listed on BMD website when I try to purchase? Can’t seem to figure it out
I have been trying to ditch PPro, but some things on Davinci drive me crazy. I'm losing so much time fighting with the simple stuff. One of my biggest battles is the timeline keeps resizing when I drag clips. Is there a simple solution Alex?
@nls3081
5 ай бұрын
Above the timeline, there are 3 tools for zoom options. Try them out. Full Extent Zoom, Detail Zoom, Custom Zoom (+ the slider) I like to have all in view, so i use Full Extent Zoom.
@The-skillschool
5 ай бұрын
@@nls3081 thanks for the info, I am aware of that feature. My question is....can you lock the timeline to a specific to size, drag a clip on and sometimes the timeline changes size. In premier you can only change the size by using the side sliders which is much better.
@nls3081
5 ай бұрын
@@The-skillschool if you mean in the length, it springs to Full Extent Zoom (and adapts to your added clips) just the first time. After setting it to Custom Zoom, it remains so, and i can only change it with the slider (or ALT + mouse scroll).
Is there any good Cheat Sheets for the hot keys?
So, did the Custom Export settings change recently? I do not see the Restrict bitrate setting anymore.
Got any tips on where I can go to get a job as a real video editor?
Alex when you make this new series, can you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE name them in a logical constistant way such as #1 - Topic etc, #2 - etc etc etc. You've partially done this is the past, but for some reason you gave that up.
I have the free version with a rtx 4080. I have it selected in preference but when I go to encode the gpu doesn’t show up under the encoder tab. I thought the free version supports it
Been waiting for magic zoom paid version. i thought you mentioned it was coming before end of 2023. give us something man.
I am only watch this to see where the actual START BUTTON is! Where is it? Still cant find it?
They won't change to subscription, because license being one time payment is DaVinci's biggest advantage over After Effects.
Ever since update to the new version of Davinci Resolve 18.5.6 has anyone else notice problems with removal of green screens ? it is removing everything ( or adding everything ). It is unable to tell the differences between the typical green screen with good lighting, and white and mat white finish tables, brown masking tape, duct tape, and a variety of other objects which are not remotely looking green ( even large items ), not the same light as the green screen, and on a table far away from the green screen. Or even large items infront of the green screen that are not remotely green. What are the different / new techniques needed in order to remove a green screen these days ? Also how to remove the green tinge from around objects. Free version - not studio version of Davinci Resolve 18.5.6. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hello everyone!! I have the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15ALC6 15.6" IPS FHD (Ryzen 5-5500U/8GB/512GB SSD/W11 Home) Arctic Grey (US Keyboard) and I was wondering if someone could tell me why when I add photos or videos in to Da Vinci it or when I put it into the timeline it freezes and after 1 minute when it has come back to life I scroll back and forth of the video and it shows parts of it, some of are black. Proxy Resolution is quarter. Does it have to do with the Graphic Card?
I feel like I need to 'relearn' DV18.... Feel like I'm not using to a 'fuller' potential. Settings for uploads for better quality pictures. Editing and transitions etc...
