Thanks a lot for the 'Confused abour resolutions' video it answered a lot things that have puzzeled me for a while,. One thing that still puzzels me though is why when I render a file at three different sizes the files all have the same size in Mb despite the picture sizes being different.

This has nothing to with your video 😉 (love all your work btw) but I just stumbled over a life-saviour effect : frame-replacer. While editing a collection of 8 mm films I often have ugly spots because during the scan there could have been dust on the film, or the film itself was harmed because that was a mechanical thing. With frame-replace you can replace that dirty frame with the previous frame or the next one, or even mix previous and next frame. Had no idea if this effect was ever mentioned and so I took the liberty of using your channel for that tiny bit of information 🙂

My way to work has been: - Drag the media I want to use from hard drive to the media pool - Drag the clip from media pool to the... timeline? And poof, it creates me the timeline. Is there some unknown wisdom in creating a timeline first and then adding media, that I'm missing? 😅 And thanks for all the videos, your channel is my go-to place for almost anything regarding Davinci. Unless it's motion graphics; then I go to Casey's 😄

Nahhh that's totally cool too BUT you do absolutely need to make sure your project settings are set correctly doing that method. Because the new timeline created will use whatever frame rate is set in project settings, and becuase your adding media onto it straight away, you can't easily change the FPS within Project Settings or Timeline Settings itself. But, providing your settings are good, then you're good to go :)

@@MrAlexTech yeaahhh... I kinda made that mistake earlier, so I know what you mean 😅 Now I have set a default project setting to match my camera, so I'm not botching it up as much anymore, but I imagine I'll need to do it that way when I'm adding media from different sources that have different framerates. Thanks for the tip, I'm sure it'll come handy in the future!

  • @MrAlexTech

You render one timeline at a render. So a common example is you have a project like this KZread video. Let's say the project contains two timelines, one horizontal 4k 30 and another vertical 1080p 60. So then we've got our KZread video edited and our portrait video in the same projects. Add them both to the render queue. They can be rendered out in their respective resolutions and frame rates and job done.

I was thinking of you a few minutes ago. You and Casey teach daVinci Resolve. I'm struggling to think of anyone to teachs video making (not YouTubing) and doesn't think everyone should use NTSC settings. And use bloody big very extensive microphones in the studio. On the ABC,and I presume BBC, they use lav microphones for news and current affairs. Occasionally, "head worn" microphones like in The Shows Must Go On. Do you know of anyone? BTW In Ponysmasher, audio is recorded separately.

I have the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15ALC6 15.6" IPS FHD (Ryzen 5-5500U/8GB/512GB SSD/W11 Home) Arctic Grey (US Keyboard) and I was wondering if someone could tell me why when I add photos or videos in to Da Vinci it or when I put it into the timeline it freezes and after 1 minute when it has come back to life I scroll back and forth of the video and it shows parts of it, some of are black. Proxy Resolution is quarter. Does it have to do with the Graphic Card?

I got a question I've always been wondering about project settings. Let's say my input footage is 3840x2160. If my project settings are 1920x1080 and I render out at 3840x2160, does it downscale and then upscale again or are project settings exclusive to what's shown in the timeline? Now what happens if I SuperScale the 1920x1080 timeline project settings?
