Torque converter and rear gears - LS1 4th gen Camaro

I added a built 4l60e and upgraded the rear end on my 2000 Heads/Cam Camaro. In this video I show you some driving habits before and after the build, and give a review of the transmission, torque converter, shift kit and rear gears.
The transmission has a 3,000 Pro Torque converter and a shift Kit. The rear end has 3.42 Motive performance gears.

    I did the same to one I had and it was fun. I actually hated how smooth the transmission was when stock as it made me feel like it was going back then forward every time it upshifted during light throttle. With the shift kit I felt a push forward ever time, that felt nice. Lastly I had 3:73’s installed which helped chirp the tires more.

    4:34 that oil pressure 😢

  • @zakuraayame5091

    @zakuraayame5091

    2 жыл бұрын

    at idle a stock car only needs about 7 psi for oil; that is when the lights come on for low oil pressure; it is the minimum amount needs for proper circulation. 20 psi at idle is FAR more than enough for a mildly built engine. The higher your oil pressure is, the more horsepower you lose ... as oil pressure is a system that uses power to move oil, the higher the pressure the more effort is required and thus the more energy required. If you are getting adequate lubrication and cooling factor from the oil, any more than that is wasteful ... and at some point, it is doing less of its job ... part of the job of oil is cooling, and at a point it moves faster than it can provide cooling for. Know what the system is, what it does, and how it is effected and how it affects other systems. More isn't always better. Think of it this way, if you had 20 psi of water being poured down your gullet, you might not look at that number as such a low one ;)

    You won't lose top end speed with 3.73. You need to know where you are shifting. You see my E.T. is 11.3 and my MPH is almost 120, 119.97 to be exact. When you are looking at MPH there are a few things that you need to consider. 1) Power curve vs shift, specifically how long are you in your power curve and on the shift when the car drops back in RPM where on the power curve does it fall. You want to hold the RPM before shifting for as long as it is profitable for the car. Basically know what the engine can take and then look at the power curve to see where you are at RPM on shift vs the drop back RPM. Peak Power is not everything. If the power is still higher after peak than it is on the drop back of the shift you want to have the car see that RPM for as long as it is profitable and for as much as the engine can take. Most SBE LS1s can only take about 7K RPM, Mine was seen to 6600 this season and I had to change both my Engine and Trans Rev limits to accommodate that. Staying in your power band for as long as possible is key for both E.T. and MPH. 2) DA matters a lot, you will obviously make more MPH in better air because the car makes more power in better air. So now in the Spring as well as later in the year in the Fall will be the best air to make the best E.T. and MPH. 3) Believe it or not Tire Pressure has a lot to do with Wheel Speed. Most people take air out of their tires down pretty low to ensure they hook on the drag radial, about 20 PSI +/- 2 is what I see normally. Tuning tire pressure for track conditions is key because you want the tire pressure to be low enough to hook but not so low that you lose top end wheel speed. You want to manage the pressure so that you are on the edge of spinning but not, just enough to hook no more no less.

    AJ Tindall Hey AJ. I actually noticed that the other day and looked it up. I changed to a ported ls6 oil pump when I did the heads/cam build and that dropped my oil pressure. After some research from a couple weeks ago I found some other people that have similar pressure as me with stock pumps, and people said it wasn't a big deal. I've driven it hard for 4000 miles with this oil pressure and it's still going, so I guess it's fine? At WOT it's a little over 40-45

    You might need a new oil pressure sending unit. In my last Z my pressure gradually went from 20 while driving to 0. Put a new sending unit in it and it went up to 55-60. The part was like $40 but is behind the intake manifold and is kind of a beeeoooootch.

    Yes it is a bitch to replace. I swapped the intake manifold myself to run the different coolant lines required for the LS6 intake and ended up breaking the sending unit, so a new one was put on with the heads/cam build. It's been runnin fine for two years so I'm not worried about it at this point.

    Haha it's gettin close. I'm just scared to death I'll blow the motor. I'll enjoy this for a while, probably throw some cts-v brakes on it, then 6 months down the road maybe look at a cheap turbo setup, but I have a lot of research to do in the meantime.

    Hey bud please stop saying you did the work. When you say “I did the work” it makes you sound like you actually did all the work yourself. Which you did not. Not trying to be an asshole just letting you know how you come off.
