Little comment from Denmark in the colder times, pack a warm sweater or the like for when you take off the platecarrier. When you're active and working, you'll easily sweat underneath the carrier, but when you take a break (lunch break for example), the sweat will become cold. If you're taking an hour break, I recommend putting the sweater on just so you're not freezing while you rest.

Still keep a PC in the truck, another in the office, and one at home. I just don't wear them 10+ hours a day every day rain or shine anymore. Weight with full kit versus without was an 82 pound difference, including full DAPS and nut knocker, rifle, ACH, 1 day combat load. Factor normal every day things like climbing up and down trucks, awkward at first. For certain your feet really notice when you don't have the right boots/socks/ lace tension. Turning your torso to see. Vest + Collar limits ability to turn head for extended periods. Taking a leak. Took much hassle to drop the vest for taking a leak, so it was just something that took a while to get used to.

Ceramic may be lighter and can "withstand" level 4 threats but has less drop durability and backface deformation is still a very real threat to ceramic plate users. I've done my homework. Honestly I still maintain the problem with modern plate carriers is they ignore centuries of armor engineering. I can wear a 20+# Cuirass for an entire day, do acrobatics in it, and be fine. In fact, I've worn full plate with mail and all the padding, which weighs about the same as full battle rattle. I had a buddy go with just a 18# plate carrier setup and I was more agile and less tired in full plate even though I had more weight on me. It gets down to fitting and how well and properly distributed the weight is, rather than just weight and most plate carriers are like having an 18# baby slung on your front and it moves around way too much, even when you have the straps tight and adjusted as well as you can. It's just all wrong. They hang wrong, the weight is too lose in it's "sling" (the compartment). It is therefor excessively exhausting. Chest/Toro armor shouldn't hang on you like a back pack. It's weight needs to be distributed between your hips and your shoulders properly. Plate Carriers do NOT load your hips, so in essence, all that weight is hanging from your shoulders. BAD. BAD. BAD. Over long periods, even if you "adjust" to the discomfort it's actually going to increase spine loads and thus create a greater chance of injury. I could drop the chain from my armor and replace it with UHDPE about 3/4" thick shaped to the inside of the armor with a lighter/thinner gambeson, maybe even replace the gambeson with a water cooled under-shirt bonded with an overlayer of padding and some kevlar. It would probably be more comfortable than a plate carrier while providing protection for my entire torso, front and rear.

Picked up an Iraq war era 'interceptor' plate carrier, and am outfitting it with type III or IV plates. But also recently picked up a concealable vest, for less hi-threat situations, that will accept type III plates, as an option. See. You CAN teach an old dog, new tricks! 😜

You can also consider leaving the plate carrier bare and attaching your gear to a load bearing vest (FLC/LBV/LBE were the acronyms in my day). You can then remove this vest if taking up a static position that you know you'll fight and die from (like a guard tower, you ain't moving to new cover from one of those cuz you'll get shot on the way down). It's also helpful when you're in a turret cuz you have less gear getting caught on shit. All that goes without saying that you also reduce the amount of weight on you to just that of the plates

If you want to get comfy wearing ANY carrier/plate system is to wear an older IOTV with the ESAPI protection, nut flap, and loaded to late 2000's SOP. It was nothing to have a 40+ pound load out on the IOTV from the late 2000's. The suck was real. Honestly however, it kept a lot of men alive. I'm grateful for it. Today, I personally sport a safelife defense for EDC, (which is still rifle rated) and run dayton armor while in Garrison per say. Or while training, runs, etc. Today I'm grateful for that huge weight savings, while still sporting lvl5 protection Technology and innovation is fantastic, and is also bringing us down at the same time. During the experiment they tested the subjects with blood samples and inBody readings. It deemed that aerobic fitness had surprinsingly low value while the best with push-ups did the best and it also mentioned them having less injuries. The subjects were made to fight an enemy and travel in full gear and rucksacks for 2 weeks in war simulation near the end of their service. UHMWPE plates bring down that base weight a lot compared to ceramic and are more buoyant and thermally neutral however full body rigs with wrap around linings will still be thermally insulating, as a photographer, full coverage rigs like the Ospray MK4 are invaluable for carrying what would be a flight bag worth of gear without back issues but I will say this I don't really use my camelback to drink but to counterweight to prevent falling forward, as damaging 2-6k of optics is not so fun my total load is around 20kg with gear and 15kg stripped down.

Dude plate carriers are badass and lightweight as someone who wore interceptor body armor which is atrocious about digging into your shoulders amd later iotvs which when properly adjusted are very comfortable I adjusted them for everyone in my platoon who asked of varying body types both males and females and they all said after I adjusted their kit the weight distribution felt great their shoulders felt fine and everything so if you wore an iotv that was uncomfortable you likely didnt have it set properly but I gotta say plate carriers while not providing as much protection against pistol rounds and frag are waaaayyyy more comfortable lightweight and breathable even with steel plates though ceramic are lighter and the jurys still out on which is overall better I can argue both ways plate carriers are perfectly comfortable and not too heavy for your average person unless your muscles are made of play dough and your bones are hollow like that of a bird in terms of the "separation anxiety" maybe some people I guess? I always slept with my kit in some fashion or another because the plates made for a flat surface to lay on where there wasnt one before or because in that given situation as a pillow if I liked the angle it set my neck and head at to sleep lets be honest a 6'3" 205lb guy like myself has to get pretty creative sometimes sleeping in the drivers seat of a humvee without pushing the parking brake lever forward and dissengaging it or just outright being uncomfortable as hell but if you get separation anxiety from your body armor at all just wear that mf for 16 hours a day for a few weeks straight and it will absolutely cure that shit permanently you'll be excited to take it off finally I'm not gonna go through every singke point made here those stood out the most as smelling like bs though to a degree certain points here where valid even the ones that where valid are very much exaggerated plate carriers are not nearly as bad as this video makes them out to be if its uncomfortable you may have just bought a shit plate carrier or you arent wearing it right take the time to adjust your gear to you because if you ever hace reason to wear it I can almost promise it'll be for at minimum several hours and even if you wear it wrong it'll still be more comfortable than a round opening a cavity in your chest the size of a little league football as far as the weight if you take care of yourself on the level you should be anyways meaning you eat ok, drink a healthy amount of water, and excercise at least 5 or six hours a week if youre a busy person but go on a run to the gym whatever but take care of yourself the weight wont be that bad I promise
