If you do not know why they got attacked is for Clarkson's number plate: H982 FKL. On Argentina they referred that plate as the war on 1982 on Falklands Islands who Britain win. The 3 cars got stuck in Argentina, the cars never arrived to Chile. The cars got destroyted in Argentina for order of the government, the police denied to protect the crew and all the team, they only decided to go with them on the trip to leave Argentina. It was a stupid decision of the argentinians to attack them.

My Dad was in the RAF and went to the Falklands in 1982. He said the Argies sent there to fight didn't want to be there. Now it seems the whole country hates us because they lost. Short memories and bad losers. Should blame their own politicians, just as we should ours for the wars they get involved in and send our troops to just because America wants it.

The joke was not appropriate neither, they should have investigated how serious this topic is. Going to Tierra del fuego, the province that is the government of the islands according to the Argentinian government, the man making a joke was a British working for a British channel and having a plate with the words FLK 982 was a receipt for disaster.

It's obviously still a sensitive issue... many Argentinians died during the war. I am sure those soldiers didn't want to go to war but had to and they died, so there is naturally some resentment. Top Gear team crossed the line too much this time.

@@slouberiee Many people did not die during the Falklands War. Of the 8-10k conscripts deployed by the Argentinians only 649 died, thats about 15% of the army. Compare that to Okinawa where the American's lost 12,520 killed in action out of the half a million deployed in a similar battlefield. Whether or not they wanted to go to war they did, they fought in a suprise illegal war and outnumbered the British and still loss, if my nation had no honor or victory I would also be a bit angry.

I was in the British army just after the Falklands Conflict. All I'll say is that Buenos Ares and Mendoza are incredible places, and the people I met were wonderful, and so friendly. A stunning country, the drive over the Andes to Chile is incredible - but the highpoint was meeting fabulous people in Argentina.

People fixate on the irrelevant in order to justify the unjustifiable, instead of exercising common sense and respecting the rights of others. It would seem though, that this kind of attitude and behaviour is not exactly uncommon or unknown in Argentina, or throughout South America in fact.

I mean there are 2 extremes. Yes, most people are absolute ignorant morons, but of course not everyone is like this. Quite a lot of people are actually extremely nice and friendly, specially if you avoid big cities. This episode was absolutely brilliant, some of the places where they went to in Chile and Argentina were fantastic.

As james arrives in the background plays some bit of 'nobody dies it better' which was the song from a spy who loved me, with the underwater lotus

i remember being really excited to see them play car football at the end and then i was so sad when it ended :(

That lotus is insane. Supposedly the most unreliable car in the bunch and yet never broke down or got stuck a single time. It even beat the Porsche.

For anyone curious, there's another reason why Jeremy has a special place in his heart for the 928. It has to do with the passing of his father. Thanks to a 928, he got to spend one final half hour moment with him before his father left this world.

The way May stepped out of his car is the best thing I've seen all day.

“Hammond! This road you chose is killing my Porsche. I am going to beat you with a bat” *wheese*

Too bad those savages ruined the Top Gear Special at the end.

Genuinely the saddest episode of Top Gear that I can think of. It was such a great episode however losing those wonderful cars is really sad. When you know the ending there's something almost "spooky" about watching this back.

One of the best parts was Jeremys emotional piece about the Porsche and his father. It's one of the few times we see him being him. The whole riot I would've found another way even if it was longer way

Add to that logic the whole port town hating Britain so much for the sinking of Belgrano. Britain warned Argentina very clearly that the ship would be sunk if it sailed, and would not be a target if it stayed in port. Not our fault their leaders were stupid enough to think we were bluffing...
