The BBC only allowed them to have a runtime of 60 mins. I believe they must have eventually convinced the BBC because the last few specials were split into two parts.

If you know what you're doing, and have a decent machete you can chop down a tree with an axe no major issue. Will be slower, but doable I've chopped similar sized birch and hornbeam with my tramontina

The problem with that is that if there's a scale of "knowing what you're doing with a machete", You're at one end and James May is as far off the other end of the scale as it is possible to go.

What I learned from this: if you own a Range Rover, rip out the engine and DOWNgrade it to run on carburetors! I'm blown away that Jeremy's Rover showed far above average reliability considering what he put it through...

Why would you leave out James slipping getting on the barge? That’s the funniest part of the episode.

This was their 2009 Christmas Special, which aired on BBC Two on Sunday 27th December 2009. Around 7.5 million tuned into watch it, remember this was in an era before streaming became the norm, so that was a great figure. In comparison the 2022 Christmas special was watched by a consolidated audience of around 4.1 million, even after catch up.

This is proper Top Gear. Not that stupid new "Top Gear".

One of my personal favourites. One of many. I, am like this with two good friends but with motorbikes. We rarely stop the banter or clowning around. Nothing malicious. Always with respect. The footage makes it seem so ancient.

I love watching these at Christmas Dave plays them practically all day on Christmas Eve as you bounce around from house to house visiting relatives

Best episode of the show. Truly a special moment in television.

This was the first of Top Gear I ever saw as a kid. Fell in love with the show after that

You can actually change gear in that old box if you know correctly guess the revs of the engine and change the gear perfectly, modern cars will stall if you do that without cluth

They had a very limited slot for their 2009 Christmas special, which this was. They had 75 minutes to cram in as much as was recorded. Tough for the edit.
