It always impressed me how close these races were. Judging by the guys reactions they are genuinely excited to find out if they won so it's not like the finishes are staged. For them to travel hundreds or thousands of mile via different means and consistently arrive within minutes of each other is some impressive logistics work on behalf of the producers.

It was definitely some impressive logistics. Then again while the races themselves are fair, they aren't always the most honest about the end timings. In the race to monte carlo Jeremy is supposed to have arrived a good hour before the others. Verbier has to be my favourite, after monte carlo they decided to push it a lot tighter against the plane. You can see about halfway through that clarkson was leagues behind so they decided to just send him caning through france leaving the crew behind, that's why the filming style changes. It's the on site that pick him up in verbier. There's no way it should have worked, but it's amazing that it did. After that, they played it safe with Oslo (which didn't end up mattering). Structured the veyron to London much tighter which worked mostly but the gap is still a good half hour. Finally, they had clarkson dick around with no satnav in Tokyo for an hour which brought that to a classic within minutes finish.

That Mustang is The Boss. I mean literally. The automotive version of Bruce Springsteen. He is not the most skilled guitarrist, does not write the most complicated songs in the world, but he is cool and a joy to listen to. The same goes for that Mustang, it might not be razor sharp and full of sci-fi techology, but it looks fantastic, sounds fantastic and with that absolute peach of an engine, it just has to be fun to drive. It's a car that the people who have designed the oh so boring VW Passat or Merc C-class would never design, and i love it for that.

As a brit it's because our roads aren't designed for them as the roads are narrower and have more bends and the fuel costs a lot more. I'm a massive fan of American muscle but they're extremely hard to run, insure, drive and refuel over here and parts are really expensive because we have to import them and doing any mods costs even more partwise and insurance wise

+Comrade Randy Probably because you suck. American cars are some of the best bang for the buck rides you can pick up. Unless you are planning to get a beat up M3 that will break down every 100km, of course. Even parts are much cheaper nowadays, since most muscle models are officially sold in Europe as well. Without mentioning third party companies that can give you even cheaper alternatives. But stupid kids will be stupid kids, after all...

That's not 100% true. Hammond loves American muscle, give him any Dodge SRT or a Mustang or a Corvette and he's one happy camper. And in this film alone, Clarkson is not slagging off the Shelby GT500. Yeah sure he lost, but it was stacked against him from the very get-go. Traffic queues, speed limits etc.

The shots of outside the car on the roads aren't filmed during the race. This would hinder Jeremy's chance of victory. For the outside shots, they go back afterwards and film bits like that for transitions so its likely they reuse shots to save time and most people wouldn't notice.

If this challenge would have been made in 2015 instead in 2012, May/Hammond would have won even by a larger gap. That's because it opened a new Metro line (the M5) which goes directly from the Milan Porta Garibaldi railway station to San Siro Stadium in 15-20 minutes instead of "Garibaldi to Cadorna (M2) - interchange - Cadorna to Lotto (M1) - 1 mile by foot" which takes I think a bit less than the 1h4' told by James to Jeremy
