Baking Powder = Baking Soda + Cream of Tartar. Baking soda gives the fluffiness to foods by reacting with acids to produce carbon dioxide. However, since there are no acidic elements in the pancake recipe, we need to do something to fix that. Cream of Tartar is a weak acid that is solid on its own, but dissolves in water. Thus, the baking soda and cream of tartar can be mixed to form baking powder without any reaction, but upon adding it to a liquid and mixing, the two chemicals are now able to react and now you've got your fluffy pancakes all ready to go. So yeah, you cannot just substitute baking soda for the baking powder; you'd just end up with soapy tasting dense pancakes.

I am no expert, but I would guess Americans and Brits eat pancakes on Shrove Thursday as it is the las to day before lent. As such you would have traditionally abstain from more expensive foods such as milk, egg, and fats and pancakes are a good way to empty one’s pantry of these. In Europe we have different traditional foods that we eat on Shrove Tuesday. In catholic countries they eat a lot of meats as you should abstain from meats during the fast. This is where the practice of carnivals comes from. The word carnivals comes from the Latin carne meaning meat, and vale meaning farewell, farewell to meat. In Sweden, where I live, along side Estonia and Finland we eat what is called a Semla during Shrove. A semla is a very tasty almond and cream based snack. You can Google it to see what it looks like. Semla comes from the Persian word for bread. I have family in Eastern Europe and I know that they eat something called Bilini for Shrove. Is is basically pancakes but with meats and savoury vegetables as toppings. Lastly, in Sweden se call Shrove Tuesday, Fettisdagen. It translates to Fat Tuesday which is an alternative name for the day in English and the exact same translation as the French Mardi Gras.

Now we need the top 8 pancake toppings. I can start if with my favourite. Banana, dried ginger and sugar (or syrup). It is a really great combination I learnt from when I studied in the Netherlands. It is spicy, filling, but also sweet.
@RedBobcatGames

I'm am not a fan of either banana or ginger, so that sounds terrible to me. HOWEVER as soon as you mentioned the Netherlands it reminded me of those weird spiced cookie things you can get at Christmas, and those are pretty good actually so perhaps I'd be on board
@MandelTräd

@@RedBobcatGames Yes! The ontbijtkoek. I usually get one for Christmas, although I missed out last year. If you do not like bananas, you might not like that topping. One of my closest friends while in the Netherlands swore that blue cheese was the best topping for pancakes. I do not like blue cheese, but if you like it it might be worth a try. They are really serious about their pancakes in the Netherlands btw. They have the pancake day (November 29th) and they have the most crêperies per capita in the world, beating both France and Belgium.

I'm pretty sure that circle in Oblivion Ring is salt, not sugar. Also, if Asmo is too scary you can always call up Gyome, Master Chef. You'll get a less tasty pancake, but you'll also be less likely to wake up bound and gagged, about to be fed to a demon lord.

Can't hurt
1) I can see that post on your Patreon for free, but I can't leave a comment on it for free. 2) It's three teaspoons to a tablespoon. 3) You use twice as many ingredients in your pancakes as I do. 4) Orim is my crush. You could maybe use Orim's Thunder for some of her butt-er. 5) Baking powder and baking soda are not the same thing, but I don't remember what either one of them is, either. 6) The pancake is ready to flip when the entire upper surface is covered in bubbles. 7) In the US, we generally top with butter and syrup. And we put them on our pancakes too. Ayyyyy!

Hopefully I'll remember. I also did not know that about the bubbles on the surface being the sign to flip (but like I said I'm no chef). HA!
