    @mariusmatei2946

    @@Destinychanged well, the reason that he's got the nickname "the Impaler/Țepeș" is that his favourite mode to administer justice (especially for cases involving corruption) was, indeed, impaling those found guilty of their charges/crimes, on long (wooden) pikes. While it was horrific (in fact and indeed), it was deliberate, to instill the kind of fear needed to get rid of the rampant corruption plaguing his country, Wallachia.

  • @mariusmatei2946

    @mariusmatei2946

    @@bbsy1 mmm, he was feared, but not respected, and the kind of (very justified) fear that he instilled, ended at the borders of Wallachia; the "forests" of pikes with decaying corpses, as well as the consequences for the disrespect the Ottoman emissaries showed Vlad Țepeș when they refused to remove their turbans (in the presence of the Prince/Vlad), by having their turbans nailed to their heads, didn't deter the Ottoman Sultan to launch a massive campaign of retaliation (against Vlad/Wallachia), nor did the King of Hungary falter in his plans to trick Vlad into a meeting (as he was, desperately, looking for reinforcements/troops to fight off the Ottomans), just to take him prisoner (as a result of the commercial dispute that escalated to open conflict between the Transylvanian Germans, and Vlad Țepeș).

    @@onur6145 you mean Vlad the impaler correct? Yep impaling people was a pretty common practice in the middle ages people constantly went to war and killed each other. People did barbarous things to each other literally all the time. That doesn't change the fact that he is still considered a Romanian hero who helped free the country from the corrupt boyars and spent his time ruling fighting against the ottoman empire trying to win his countries freedom. I honestly don't see what point you are trying to make here are you wanting me to say a man who literally has no connection with myself was a bad person, or are you wanting me to look down on the Romanian people for having a national hero from the middle ages who wasn't PC according to today standards. The characters of Kit and Holly (Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek) from "Badlands" (1973) were also based on Charles Starkweather and Karil Ann Fugate. "Natural Born Killers," even with its similarities to the Starkweather case, is slightly different from real-life, in that it shows the fictional killer's girlfriend as a willing accomplice in his crimes, whereas Karil Ann Fugate insisted that she didn't willingly go along with Charles Starkweather's murder spree, as the law said she did, that Starkweather had first forced her to lie to her neighbors about the whereabouts of her mother, stepfather, and baby sister (they had all been killed by Starkweather), and then took her as a hostage when he made his escape after fearing that the police were on to them. At first, Starkweather collaborated her "hostage" story, but when she openly branded him a murderer, he turned on her, testifying in court that she gladly traveled with him after killing her parents and sister, that she could have escaped anytime because she wasn't tied up or anything, and even said, after eating hamburgers that he had picked up in a restaurant, that "some of the burgers were terrible and that we should go back and kill all those people in the restaurant." Karil Ann denied everything, but it was no use. The jury (a few of whom may have been biased against her before the trial even began) convicted her anyway and she was sentenced to life imprisonment. Starkweather died in the electric chair. "Badlands" also contained a few differences from the actual case. While it shows Kit (Sheen) killing the father (Warren Oates) of Holly (Spacek), it doesn't show him doing the same thing to her mother and sister, which was to be expected since, in the film, Holly has no mother or siblings of any kind. (I think her mom had passed away years before) I don't remember if her remaining parent was her father or her stepfather. At the end of the film, Holly is placed on probation instead of being sent to prison for life, as Karil Ann Fugate was. On the other hand, Kit, like his actual counterpart, Charles Starkweather, gets the death penalty.

    Vlad did not drink blood, ffs. He was just the standard medieval ruller in the Romanian Principates, very much a product of his time. While some argue he had an antisocial personality disorder and went way overboard, even for the time, especially with how he dealt with petty crimes, such as theft, displays of ruthlessness and cruelty like what is attributted to him were absolutely necessary at court in the Romanian Principates. Because the boyars (Romanian nobility) were very disloyal @-holes and were quick to gun for the throne, even going so far as to strike deals with the Ottomans just for that. And, since the Ottomans were always an open threat to the countries, not just one from the shadows, the princes couldn't afford to have internal squabbles, much less risk being backstabbed, which is why most considered it a good idea to rule through fear, even terror, and thus keep the boyars in line. So these were displays of strength. Vlad's cousin, Stephen the Great, the prince of Moldova at the time, actually has some even more horrifying feats under his belt, such as making a pyramid from the severed heads of his enemies... In his case, it actually worked, as he rulled Moldova from 1457 to 1504, being, I think, the longest reigning monarch in the history of the two Romanian principates (while they were still separated, at least, I think Charles I of Hohenzollern might have exceeded him by a few years). Anyway, I digress, the point is there was nothing odd or supernatural in the least about Vlad the Impaler.
