Not all of them. Maradona certainly showed no guilt for example and in some quarters it made him even more popular. Actually one I've just thought of who isn't mentioned here is the Olympic sprinter Ben Johnson. Any athlete who illegally does something to deny an opponent prize for their efforts is by definition a cheat. Some, like Lance Armstrong got away with it. But it must be hard in athletics when herbal remedies like Ginseng tea, can give false positives (as Linford Christie found out).

Luis Resto’s gloves should’ve been ranked way higher! That wasn’t just cheating; it was a criminal offense. That was like hitting someone with bricks; assault with a deadly weapon. I’ll agree with comments I’ve read elsewhere on here about the documentary. It’s very good. Resto was devastated by the actions he and Panama Lewis were found guilty of. Lewis was truly a bad man. He showed virtually no remorse for what he did, including using illegal substances in water to add agility for his boxers.

The players couldn't be punished because they were granted immunity for giving statements so that MLB could determine the extent of the cheating. They couldn't strip the title because there was no evidence that the "cheating" changed the outcomes of any games (they had better batting averages and scoring on the road where they couldn't cheat). It didn't end just there though. Not only was there a warrant out for his arrest after not paying any taxes to the Italian authorities during his years at Napoli but in 1994 he scored a goal against Greece in the world cup despite having illegal drugs in his system. The goal against England may have had more of a direct impact in terms of turning a game in his favour but nobody wants to be on the losing end of a drugs cheat. After he died the England goalkeeper in that 1986 game, Peter Shilton, gave a very measured response to the press when asked for a comment, showing he was still angry about it despite it having occurred 34 years previously. Maradona was naturally a brilliant player but his conduct as a person left a lot to be desired. His hatred for the English team was still there in 2018 when he encouraged people to support the Colombians in their game against England. He was a very divisive person right to the end and destroyed himself because of his flaws. Napoli and Argentina supporters understandably hold him in high regard but the English, the Greeks, and the Italian taxman not so much.

His crocodile tears at the press conference were laughable at best, and it really showed the "we're better than everyone because we're sports stars" mentality. Also while Bancroft was the one who cheated, it was pretty obvious that Warner (Vice-Captain,) and Smith (Captain,) were the ones who orchestrated it and convinced Bancroft to do it.

Over here in North America nobody gives a shite about cricket, nobody plays cricket, I don't even think anyone knows how to play cricket. In the United States of Murica they are ALL about Football. In Canada they are all about the greatest sport in the world Hockey. In Mexico they're a Soccer country which is of course referred to as Football across the pond. My point is if you move somewhere in North America no one will have ever heard about this cricket scandal and no one will bust on you for it. Also if they do find out about it no one will care. Of course if you do ever play with the idea of going to North America I suggest you make it Canada. Unfortunately Mexico is pretty rough which is why their citizens are always trying to jump the border into Murica. Now Murica is just getting RIDICULOUS!! You can watch 50 news clips EVERY DAY about mass shootings, school shootings, single person shootings, shooting attempts, road rage shootings, road rage in general, people being run over by road ragers on top of all their other crimes and this is no joke. This year in the US shootings and road rage incidents are a daily occurrence. They are blaming it on the pandemic and claiming it comes from frustration and isolation of lockdowns but pretty much ALL other countries had lockdowns and the same measures as the US did and we just chilled at home, no big deal while the Muricans sat at home slowly going insane. Not sure why they are losing their marbles and all the other people in other countries are fine. So again, make it Canada because Mexico is bad and Murica is full of gun carrying psychos.

The French organizers hated Lance and were constantly trying to get dirt on him. Supposedly the big evidence was an old urine sample from his first winning tour found years after that showed a minute amount of a banned substance. I still wonder if he actually cheated or if his methods were frowned on and blown up by La Presse. The guy survived cancer. He trained hard. It was said his crime was using transfusions of packed red cells to increase his oxygen usage and therefor increase strength and stamina. The thing is professional cycling has always been a tainted sport when it comes to PEDs. Eddy Merkx, one of the greatest cyclists ever, said that in the moderndays of cycling if you wanted to win you took something. He said it was nearly impossibleto ride that far, that fast in that time period without some help. It is not about winning but winning big! Get fame and money. Be adored. As long as the rewards are big then cheating will always be there. As for Lance, at the time I was big into long distance cycling and he was my muse. In many ways I don’t care if he cheated. He was exciting to watch and he controlled the peloton.

With regards to Nelson Piquet Junior and Crashgate, it was him being fired by the Renault team less than a year later that indirectly led to the FIA taking another look. Around the 2009 European Grand Prix in Valencia, Spain, Piquet had spoken to then FIA President Max Mosley. In this conversation, he explained that it had been a deliberate act by the team to cause a Safety Car period, which combined with team mate Fernando Alonso having pitted just two laps before, which would mean that Alonso would emerge in the lead once everyone else pitted. As Ted Kravitz who worked with the BBC at the time said: "We now know what happened, Nelson Piquet crashed on purpose, to bring out the Safety Car. This wasn't spying on other teams or lying to the stewards, this was endanger spectators, marshalls and his own safety." With regards to the reference about "spying on other teams," the 2007 Spygate scandal deserves a dishonourable mention in my view. In July 2007, reports began circulating that Ferrari had hired a private investigator to look into how a document of confidential data regarding their car that year got into the hands of a photocopier in Woking, United Kingdom. It emerged that through contact with disgruntled Ferrari employee, their former Chief Mechanic, Nigel Stepney, the McLaren team's chief designer, Mike Coughlin, had come into possession of these papers and his wife had sent the paperwork for photocopying. Long story short, after initially denying that they'd benefitted from the data, McLaren revealed that they had in fact not only were aware of it, but they had benefitted from the data (for example, for Malaysia, they were able to predict when they'd stop for fuel and tyres). McLaren were given a very stiff penalty: the team (who had led both Constructors and Drivers championships at the time) were excluded from the 2007 Constructors Championship, the team (other than their drivers) wouldn't score any further points in the season, but the biggest headline grabber was the huge fine they paid. The team were fined $100,000,000

Football players r very good actors. they get a little tap on the legs and go down rolling all over the ground in pain them suddenely get up and start running around again as if nothing happened as they were faking it to try and get the other player sent off. Before the premier league came along most players were getting paid the same as a normal working mans job paid. leather ball which was heavy. muddy pitches and if it was raining u couldnt even tell what colour the shirt was as they were all covered in mud. Very few fell over when someone looked at them and faked injuries. Players loyal to their club and didnt move to other clubs for fame and fortune. some stayed with the same team their whole career Even when offerd stupid money to go to another team they said no im staying here. Then the Agents took over and started selling players like slaves left right and centre just so they could get rich from the comissionn they got. England were bad simply cause the manager was not allowed to pick the players he wanted he was given a list of teams he could pick players from. U could of been the best player in the world but if u didnt play for 1 of the teams on the list u wouldnt get into the England team. That was so the agents could persuade the players to move to a team on the list and make lots of money from it.

You missed two good ones. The first is Albert Belle who used to play for the Cleveland Indians. He was a power hitter whose numbers went up drastically one year and after hitting a ball the umpires were suspicious and took his bat to be checked out and locked it in the umpire's dressing room. While the game was going on one of Albert's teammates climbed through the ceiling tiles and dropped into the umpire's dressing room and replaced Albert's bat with one of their own. This however was found out. The other one was the woman who won the Boston Marathon. I don't remember her name but it turns out that she took the subway to a stop not far from the finish line after starting the race with everyone else and then ran across to finish in first place. She was awarded as the winner until people started questioning how no one saw her past them for much of the course.

@@martenmeij in baseball, pitchers use sticky substances to get a better grip on the ball, which in turn allows them to induce spin at a higher rate than without. Spin rate on a pitch is what determines itg's amount of movement either vertically or horizontally, also known as "break". The MLB forbids any sort of sticky substance except the rosin that is in the rosin bag on the mound. Some pitchers have found that putting on sunscreen and then mixing the rosin in with it makes it even more sticky. The rule was introduced a long time ago when pitchers would rub tobacco spit into the ball, changing the color from white to a dark brown, which made it nearly impossible for batters to see, and causing injuries and deaths from being struck by unseen balls. Pine T^ar is a sticky substance allowed in baseball, but only on bat handles to allow batters to grip the bat easier. Pitchers using pine tar is a big no-no though for the reasons mentioned above.

Don't know if it was pine tar or stick'em either way it gives the pitcher better control of the ball. Some would say that if the pitcher uses a sticky substance then the batter is safer from being hit by the pitch but with the recent crack down on sticky pitchers from last year....and this year they aren't inspecting as much so the sticky is being used again. The hit by pitches have went down with the crackdown and the pitchers were not using the sticky as much..... But the reason for the pitcher to use a sticky is for control and spin....more spin or revolutions of the ball.

I think Germaine de Randamie should be on this list for hitting Holly Holm after the bell in two consecutive rounds when they fought in the UFC. I've watched many MMA fights and hits after the bell rarely happen, to have it happen twice in one fight, with really hard shots, with no point penalty, and then have Holly barely lose the fight on the judges score cards, where even just one penalty for the second offence would have turned the tide? I can't see it as anything but unpunished cheating where the cheater won.

In South Africa, we have an annual race that I think is the world's oldest ultra-marathon (more than 42 kilometers). It alternates from Pietermaritzburg to Durban and vice versa, and is around 90 kilometers long. One year sort of recently a runner from the Eastern Cape finished in the top ten, earning, I don't know, 5 or 10 thousand dollars, or something like that. It turns out he was alternating with his twin whenever he took a port-a-potty break.

There were really strong calls for the match to be replayed, but I don't think it would have helped. That Irish performance was singular in the Trapattoni era and there's no way it could have been repeated. I suppose if we'd qualified it would have extended his tenure as manager, which I don't like because his negativity seriously damaged both the national team and domestic league.

There is a LOT of money changing hands with these high-rolling games. But, athletes are a privileged group and get away with way more than the every day person on the street.

The only thing that Steve Smith and his friends regretted was that they got caught, sadly the fact is that the Australian team had a rough time after their suspensions and when they became eligible for selection again, they came straight back into the side. Some say cheats never prosper, tell that to David Warner and Steve Smith.
