TN v. Joseph Ray Daniels Murder Trial Day 2 - Jeff Bledsoe, Det Sarah McCartney

Watch Live: Joseph Ray Daniels Murder Trial in Death of Autistic Son
Charges:
1. First-degree murder for the death of Joe Clyde Daniels
2. First-degree murder in perpetuation of a felony
3. Aggravated child abuse
4. Initiating a false report.
5. Tampering with evidence
Joseph Ray Daniels, 31, stands trial in the alleged murder of his missing son Joe Clyde Daniels, 5. Opening statements are scheduled to begin 1 p.m. CT / 2 p.m. ET on Thursday, June 3. Court will be held on Saturdays. You can watch in the player above.
Defendant Daniels called 911 on April 4, 2018 to say his son “escaped.”
“We cannot find him,” he said in audio obtained by WKRN.
But he ended up confessing to beating baby Joe to death, saying the child had peed on the floor, authorities said.
As seen on video, Daniels broke down in tears while wearing a shirt labeled “Super Dad.”
“I was just so angry with him,” he said. Asked how many times he hit baby Joe, he said a “couple” of times while the boy was crying.
Baby Joe was on the autism spectrum and non-verbal.
At first, defendant Daniels said he put the body in a remote area, but when investigators did not find Joe, Daniels claimed he put the remains in a pond. Again, they did not find the body, and Joe remains missing to this day.
Daniels’ defense has argued that the confession was coerced. He is charged with first-degree murder, child abuse, aggravated child abuse causing serious bodily injury, child neglect, filing a false report, and tampering or fabricating evidence.
The boy’s mother Krystal Daniels is also charged with aggravated child abuse, child neglect, filing a false report, and tampering or fabricating evidence. She allegedly admitted to being at the home when Joseph Daniels beat the child to death, but like her co-defendant, she recanted the story, saying it was coerced.
A 2019 jailhouse call showed Joseph Daniels claiming it was Krystal who killed Joe by smothering him with a pillow. But as far as authorities are concerned, it was he who ended the child’s life.

He just wants to appear dumb. It makes me angry for him to waste tax dollars putting everyone through this when he knows exactly where his son is. They should take him in a basement like Hank Voight does on Chicago PD and I believe he'd tell where the boy is. I bet he has laughed at them since the boy disappeared. I can't believe neither of them has caved in. Give the wife immunity and I just bet she would tell all.

Initially he claimed to go to bed @ 10PM & then reported his son missing sometime early in the morning-approx 8-9AM. Later he claimed he saw his son around 11;30AM-midnight when he had an accident on the floor. Later still, he claimed thats when he beat the child to death. And then he recanted the confession. Hypothetically, it could be anytime from when Joe was dropped off from school bus the day before in the afternoon to 8-9AM when he called 911. But IMO, if he killed his son, it was when the child had the accident during the night, approx 11PM-Midnight

The defendant/father couldn’t even explain to law enforcement what disability his son had, let alone work w/him @ home on his physical, speech & occupational therapy skills. Suffice it to say, it was a poor home environment. That said, being a bad parent doesn’t equal killing your child. Statistically, it’s almost always the parents, but def not always. Hopefully the picture becomes more clear as the trial progresses.

  • @aprilltaylor8870

So initially they thought what you said happened but the new working theory is that he beat the boy and put him in the car boot called 911 then after the police got there he disappeared for 2 hours. Where they think he then hid the body. Because his car didn't leave his driveway from what the neighbors camera shows. First he confessed saud the body was in a field..... no luck then said body was in a pond... no luck. Wife said she witnessed him beat the kid but then just like him said she was coerced
