Witnesses:
Agt. Zachary Burkhart - Employed by Tennessee Bureau of Investigation- Head agent on the case. Discusses The Ailen T-shirt found in the laundry room of defendant's house. Discusses red shorts warn by defendant seen by witness on side of the road.
Charges:
1. First-degree murder for the death of Joe Clyde Daniels
2. First-degree murder in perpetuation of a felony
3. Aggravated child abuse
4. Initiating a false report.
5. Tampering with evidence
Joseph Ray Daniels, 31, stands trial in the alleged murder of his missing son Joe Clyde Daniels, 5.
Defendant Daniels called 911 on April 4, 2018 to say his son “escaped.”
“We cannot find him,” he said in audio obtained by WKRN.
But he ended up confessing to beating baby Joe to death, saying the child had peed on the floor, authorities said.
As seen on video, Daniels broke down in tears while wearing a shirt labeled “Super Dad.”
“I was just so angry with him,” he said. Asked how many times he hit baby Joe, he said a “couple” of times while the boy was crying.
Baby Joe was on the autism spectrum and non-verbal.
At first, defendant Daniels said he put the body in a remote area, but when investigators did not find Joe, Daniels claimed he put the remains in a pond. Again, they did not find the body, and Joe remains missing to this day.
Daniels’ defense has argued that the confession was coerced. He is charged with first-degree murder, child abuse, aggravated child abuse causing serious bodily injury, child neglect, filing a false report, and tampering or fabricating evidence.
The boy’s mother Krystal Daniels is also charged with aggravated child abuse, child neglect, filing a false report, and tampering or fabricating evidence. She allegedly admitted to being at the home when Joseph Daniels beat the child to death, but like her co-defendant, she recanted the story, saying it was coerced.
A 2019 jailhouse call showed Joseph Daniels claiming it was Krystal who killed Joe by smothering him with a pillow. But as far as authorities are concerned, it was he who ended the child’s life.

He’s working his butt off with what little he has, though albeit it’s not his fault or from lack of earnest work, unlike the defense who has more than enough room to defend his client and yet is always unprepared and worse yet seems legit angry he’s even having to put in the little effort he does outside of his dramatized disputes of being treated fair when he has and frankly I can’t believe the judge hasn’t humbled him more, though it shows the judge knows he doesn’t have to bc he makes himself look like a jerk.

I love this judge too, especially when compared with other trials. However, it's pretty clear which "side" he's on, as fair as he is. I just don't understand why everyone is convinced Alex was lying for 2 years and suddenly remembers the truth and they all choose to believe his second story after he's been influenced by Joe-haters for all that time.

@@amandasummers7881 I thought about that too, but the father was arrested like 3 days later. Alex had 2 YEARS of safety and counseling to unlock his memory. It could be as you say...or false memories could have been planted. No doubt the family are going to be saying all kinds of things about the dad and what he could have done. No doubt Alex was aware of all that. Plus I think what Alex said was inconsistent with what the dad "confessed" to. This trial is fascinating....I pity the jury. It's going to be tough.

The defense attorney is not only lazy, rude, self-righteous and has a delusional sense of self importance and I swear throughout this trial he’s disrespected the judge and the court numerous times though the judge has repeatedly demonstrated superior level of patience with this man who acts like he’s the judge jury and prosecution and acts as though he has an uphill impossible case to fight when he’s been gifted a defense attorneys dream case.

@@jadaperez2169 I don’t think the defendant is innocent but the reason I say dream case for the defense is that they have plenty of room to push doubt because no body, no physical evidence, no weapon, and only one on scene witness was 7 at the time that gave testimony, and though I don’t think he should be rewarded for being a terrible parent that in the very least neglected his role to protect his child, and had time to either conceal or cover his mistakes I can’t deny the fact that this isn’t a small dunk case, although I believe the state and prosecution attorney has fine an excellent job with what little they had and if it’s not a guilty verdict it’s not because they didn’t give it their best, I just think they should have gone another route with the charges and tried him for neglect, tampering, kidnap (you don’t have as much burden to prove without a body), and then go for the maximum time for each of them to run consecutively and added it up to essentially life in prison.

Does this defense not also realize that a cadaver dog will not pick up the scent of a dead person the moment the person dies? The dog picks up on decomposition which doesn’t happen until at least 24 hours after a person dies. And if Joseph was carrying Baby Joe it wouldn’t pick up Baby Joe... it tracks scent on the ground. So if Baby Joe was carried outside, laid in 1 spot on the ground & then carried off somewhere no scent would be detected.

@@stayhydrated8321 You are correct!! As soon as blood circulation stops, oxygen is no longer supplied to the “innards” & cells start to attack each other for the stored oxygen then breakdown & die, which is the beginning of the decomp process. And then the organs start their process. But it will take approx 24-72 hours before the skin will start to breakdown & fluids are expelled… which is a large source of the odor dogs are trained to detect. But yes, it actually starts the moment the heart stops beating. BTW- I love body farms… 😉 🤓

So Joe Clyde was progressing as his therapist testified. It doesn't take a lot of motor skills to push a table on rollers....or push it back if you think you're going to get in trouble for moving it. Kids can be amazing escape artists. Even my cat figured out how to open a door (except it wasn't padlocked...smile.) Autistic kids used to be called "idiot savants" because what they lacked in some areas, they vastly excelled in others. It's entirely possible in my view for Joe C to get up in the middle of the night and work and work until he got that key to unlock the padlock, then toss it down in the nearby toybox. It's been testified that he'd watched his dad do it. Wonder if Joe C played videogames or took toys apart or used the remote for the TV? If so, not so farfetched to think he could use a key in a lock.
