Same here, I've had Chickie the house chicken since October 2015, because she doesn't get along with other chickens. She's even went on vacations with us. ❤️☺️

This is my first time having a pet chicken for a pet, I adopted an 3 week old Americana, and I’m really trying to find the right home/caging house for her. I’m thinking of buying a chicken diaper for her to walk around the house with but in regards to her home, what would you recommend is the best flooring material that stinks the least and most effective. I’ve heard of wood chip shavings but I’ve also seen like gravel type as well, if you both can please provide any insights, that would help so much!😊

Fortunately, my dogs and cats actually really like my chickens, so I luckily don't need to separate them. The chickens even sometimes cuddle up with the dogs😊

Have chickens of all ages now but I just started this year. Claimed 2 adorable babies to raise inside and I honestly think they would be so amazing. I should have started years ago.

I've had house chickens who were fascinated by the tv. One adoptee became excited whenever she hears "Who lives in a pineapple under the sea......she would run to the TV. Another preferred cooking shows, or shows featuring people eating. Nature shows are iffy. If they start showing hawks and foxes they get upset. Our current chicken sits on the couch to watch us play video games.

We have an ayam cerami and 2 small roosters that we keep in the house exept for during the day they go out in the run. At night they come inside of the house and have a little baby play pen they live in. They go to sleep at night so you have to turn the lights off

I wish I could have my chickens come in but I’ve got 3 cats and a dog that love chickens in the bad way

So I found a stray Thailand hen needing help. A predator got a hold of her but she is physically good just tail feathers. I have her in a large dog crate. I have free roam Guinea pigs. And with her traumatic event I'm keeping her in the crate for at least a week to acclimate. So far both my dominant Male Guinea pig wants to eat and hangs out with her. Thank you for the post. I have had chickens and ducks but only outside

I prefer bantam cochin, or silkies. Some people keep tiny chickens like seramas indoors, but if they're anything like my bantam game birds...they can fly well, which can make being indoors a challenge. Silkies and cochins with their stubby wings and short legs can't fly well at all.

Yes natural sand is best.

I believe what you are seeing is the dust bathing box. It is a shallow tub of clean sand so the chicken can still take dust baths. Most people who have house chickens use chicken diapers and I have as well. My exception is "Chickie" my house chicken who is exceptionally intelligent. She knows what her name is and she knows what "NO" means so when she is out and she does the poop squat, I tell her no and bring her to her room where she will go. She is partially trained, but I don't think most chickens are capable of training. Although, I haven't tried to other than that one.

@@chickenchat9672 that was a very detailed description lol 😂 but i didn't know chickens have a poop squat, I use to have 6 of em and when they pooped they would just stand and move their tail downwards for 3 secs and just poop. That's not enough time to bring them somewhere unless I become sonic or something. And I won't be able to do clicker training because chickens don't poop on command -_-

When researching starting chickens last year, they recommend a minimum of two and suggest three to prevent mental health challenges suffered by single birds. I'm not hearing this advice on the threads. Is it not a thing for apartment birds?

Unfortunately the people who used to make them for me quit making them. So my mom started to make some for me since I can't sew well. I know you can find some on Amazon or a website called Louise's Country Closet. There are also several people who make and sell them on Etsy.com. If you get one and it doesn't work well, you could use it as a reference and ask someone to make one for you with any alterations you might need.

You don't. You use chicken diapers, and as she said, linoleum OVER the carpet as protection. Mop and dust a lot. Too much work for me.
