Are Two Chickens Enough For A Small Space Garden?

The question is two chickens enough for a small space garden?
For me, the answer is yes at the moment. There are only my daughter and myself and we are not eating two eggs a day.
At the moment I have 6 eggs in stock and we like our eggs, but not every day.
If you have a large family then 3 to 4 chickens would be perfect. They do like to be in a flock and seem very happy together.
I find that having two it's much easier to watch them and less mess is made. When there are more there is more competition for food, so they seem to smash everything in sight hehe.
I would love to hear your thoughts more on this so please leave your comments below.

I live in a terraced house in Ireland. My neighbours are pretty cool, but my concern is noise and smell as I was told. Like, I really want to invest is this not just for me, but for my children to understand life in general. I already have an allotment for growing fruit and veg which is amazing but I feel like having a little coop will do me and my family the world of good. So again, for my space, would noise or smell be an issue?

Interesting and cool to see how happy the 2 chooks are, considering how much you read/hear about they should be minimum 6 etc. Makes me happy to re-consider the 4 we originally wanted. We bought 2.5 acres a few months ago and were happy it had a small chook run, after good inspection it's not up to scratch especially for our location, has large gaps etc Upside of taking it down to remake it strong and secure is we can also upgrade it for very happy chooks. I thought most councils require coops to be located at least 6 meters from a dwelling. Are you concerned about attracting rodents?

My neighbor has over 50 chickens right outside his house door. We live in town, not even on 1/4 of an acre, so rodents have been a huge issue. I have to routinely mass exterminate rodents inside my home... Just recently I killed 13 mice in 2 days. The third day, a 12 foot rat snake found itself caught in a glue board I had set up, exposing how big the entryway actually is. I intented to rescue said snake because it's my only other ally in micing (my cat does a catch n release method) but the glue board tore it's flesh to the bone off on it's jaw... So, rodents are a huge huge problem for us with chickens in very close proximity.

Your girls are very happy and contented aren't they? I was considering getting a couple of ex battery hens - I'm not worried about the eggs just the poop : ) We have a retirement home for dogs and cats (adopt seniors) so why not some chickens? They would certainly have a good home here. Thanks for the video Marty - love to see you and Karin (is she still in bed? I'm not an early riser : ( but I would like to be). Bye.

My conclusion is, Two chickens are enough to deplete every inch of standard backyard of 400 sqm in six month, all bugs, critters, earthworms, vegetables, seedings, accessible fruits will be consumed and depleted by chicken, left with trees and grass only. They need 100 g of meat daily to stop tirelessly scratching and depleting land,

Yes, they need to be managed properly, so they don't rip everything up. If you have seen the chooks in south east Asia you would possibly get a different view point.

@@martysgarden Yes. My theory is, the chicken were dinosaurs which dominated on earth before human and went largely distinguished, because 1 they lay average 150 eggs/year, (100 babies /year) without birth control which results in over population. 2 unsustainable practice, e.g. tirelessly scratching ground and depleting vegetations which causes environment damage, as results, a 90 yrs of "climate change" wiped out most of dinosaurs on earth left with few chickens running around til today. Upon seen such failure, the creator modified his creation and created a new specie called "mammal", in attempt to slow down it's birth rates (it takes10 months to born 1 baby) , 2 intelligent enough to figure out how to control it's population, hope this new specy be able to manage earth and live on earth as long as creator lives.
