just did this on a friends Kia... FYI - if you want to make your own breaker bar for crank pulley, use a 0.25" steel flat bar and make three holes on the same centerline, Hole 1: 10mm diameter Hole 2: 31.75mm diameter (for a non impact socket outer diameter) Hole 3: 10mm diameter Hole spacing Hole 1: 0mm Hole 2: 34mm Hole 3: 68mm

Good video lesson. I'm learning I'm just to old school for the modern cramped spaces and excess component removal required to replace consumable parts. I'll just stick to the old stuff. I did polish up and mount the dwell meter on the wall as a surrender to the times.

I've replaced the timing belt 5.5 yrs ago but only 15k miles. Should I still replace the timing belt & waterpump? Can the crankshaft be rotated 2x w/o removing tensioner pin to make sure dots line up, and if needed, I won't have to compress tensioner again? Excellent video. Thank you.

I appreciate your time in making this video. At 13:17 you talk about taking out the black metal shroud behind the cam sprockets. From what I can tell I am not able to pull the shroud unless the cam sprockets are removed, correct?

Thanks for the video... I got a question regarding oil pump on this same engine (2.7l V6 in a Tiburon), does the oil pump come out with the pickup nozzle or will I have to take the oil pan out to replace it?

Great video! Wished you could have been more detailed showing taking off and putting back on parts like crankshaft sprocket and water pump. Really everything. I know it would have been a longer video but it would have helped me better. (not being a real mechanic) Other than that it was a great video!! Good job! Thanks!!!

Another great video which is tempting me to do my timing belt myself. One question .... the pulley wrench you used on the top pulley ....Can that also be used on the crank pulley as well? And what part of the bottom of the engine did you jack it up to support it? Thanks again

If you are talking about a wrench to hold the cam pulleys in place while loosening or tightening the bolt in the center then I would say no, you need a different way to hold crankshaft pulley. bolt sizes are different too. They make strap style wrenches you can use to hold crankshaft pulley in place, or if you can get to the flywheel teeth and use a screwdriver or prybar to try to hold engine in place while breaking loose bolt for crankshaft.

2001 Kia optima 2.5L V6 Serpentine tensioner does not have the 3/8th square hole (well at least mine didnt) you need to use an open ended wrench or vice grips to release the tension. Just an FYI if you're doing this job.

I don't know how to do the release for the tensioner on my 2001 KIA Optima. I need to slip the belt off the pump but it doesn't have a hole to stick the ratchet in. Is it possible there's a cover plate that needs to be removed first? In order to reveal the square hole?
