LYRICS
You’ve opened a door
Do you think you’re crazy
If darkness implores
It’s asking you maybe
To watch for the eyes
They offer advice
One more trip
in my mind
would suffice
for me
(For me)
Can’t you see when you’re alone
Is when we come back
When we come back to sing
For you
Your head hits the floor
Your body is aching
It’s asking for more
Or maybe it’s hinting
To open your eyes
When light starts to shine
One more trip outside
should suffice
For me
(For me)
Can’t you see when you’re alone
Is when we come back
When we come back to sing
For you
Your body goes cold
And your heart is racing
It’s starting to know
The advice you’ve been taking
Has opened your mind
At the cost of your life
One more slit
of the wrist
should suffice
For me
(For me)
Can’t you see that you’re alone
We’ll never go back
We’ll never go back to sleep
For you
You’re not alone
(Not alone)
(Not alone)
Not now
You’ll never sleep again
Don’t tell me that you’re
getting cold feet
My friend
You’ve opened a door
Do you think you’re crazy
Can’t you see we’ve taken hold
We’ll never go back
We’ll never go back
To sleep
for you
(You’re not alone)
Can’t you see we’ve taken hold
We’ll never go back
We’ll never go back to sleep
For you

Typical stoners. Make plans while on a high (during the show) thinking they are great ideas and then cannot follow through. I don't see the appeal of this music or the video. Both are mediocre and probably cost more than most people pay for an entire years mortgage payments.

@@migeyefoxe9972 sure, but Tim makes a big deal about changing culture through his music. You can't reach more people with mediocre. It has to be good or great. Having AI change Ian's looks instead of the months of him actually doing something to better his health and well-being was pretty crappy. Everyone noticed the difference in Ian when he was doing the work. His mind was improving along with his body and he sounded like he was gaining a backbone. Now that the video is out and he is back to his regular do-do brained ramblings. I've watched too much talent and beauty get ruined by drugs over the years. This is just yet another thing that could have been better if someone took a more critical, less pot induced listen or watch to the things they are producing. Tim is surrounded by "yes men" who "expand their minds" with chemicals instead of learning. That leads to mediocre outcomes. Drugs are bad mmmkaaay!

Watching this again, Ive got to say that is a spectacular representation of what addiction is actually like. From 2004 to 2011 I was horribly addicted to Adderal and went through all the stages this video shows, with the obvious exemption of the death at the end. My end was prison (which saved my life and I am grateful for it every day, many of my friends from back then were not so lucky). Stage 1: honeymoon phase, euphoria. STAGE 2: Regular use. Stage 3: isolation and physical breakdown. Stage 4: rock bottom, i.e. extreme reversal through death or other circumstances

The music video is showing the stages of drug addiction as it steals away Ian's life until he's old and decrepit. The drug is actually a metaphor for social media and how people get addicted to it. It opens the door to everything you can imagine without ever leaving your room and you fade away and die alone in your room having never actually experiencing anything in life.

The great awakening can be traumatic. This song reminds me of my own journey through learning I've been lied to in so many ways opening another door to learning about how and why I was lied to can be stifling and lonely. I was on prescription drugs for 30 years before learning they only wanted me to stay sick and be their customer. I managed to replace many with natural remedies not offered to me and pray I'm on the road to healing. I was taking fentanyl for 12 years it took me 5 years to wean off that nasty drug. Lyrica was another that took me 18 months to wean off of. Have a symptom... here's a pill....all the while they see dollar signs and no road to being well. Love the song. Journey on, one day at a time.

Was the fentanyl prescribed or bought illegally cause if so how are you alive cause only the kind given to you by a medical professional that’s monitored is safe. All that other stuff is cut bad and you end up dead. You have to have been on prescribed stuff cause if not you wouldn’t be alive right now unless your supplier was actually a top G

Wow this comment reminds me of myself and what I wish I could do… I have several health and pain conditions so I take Percocet and Lyrica every day (prescribed legally). The one that scares me more is honestly the Lyrica and how I’ve been thinking lately I want to come off it however I know my nerves benefit from it (bad neuropathy I’m my body) and I’ve been taking it for about 10 years now, same with pain meds. I’m monitored somewhat closely and have to see a dr minimum once a month and get drug tested multiple times a year. I’m contemplating whether or not the benefits outweigh the negatives bc I hate big pharma and know how evil it is. I know my body is now dependent upon my meds and I HATE that. I also take meds for mental things like bipolar. Kind of wish I never bought into the idea that the best treatment is medication just to mask the symptoms instead of finding the root cause. They’re always wanting to try a new med for new symptoms but I haven’t fallen into it for a year- I cut out one of my pain meds out after telling my doctor which I’m proud of myself for, but congratulations because I know how hard that had to be and how SICK it can make you feel. I applaud your bravery and courage to do the right thing.

I was on prescribed fentanyl a long time for pain. It worked for me as an anti-depressant as well which made it that much harder to quit. It really regulates your emotions to the point that real life experiences don't matter anymore. You feel great when you take it & horrible when it wears off. It's been almost five years now and I'm glad I got my life back. I get chills just talking about it.

I think it’s about addiction and how Ian is addicted to getting high. He comes out of a trip and is tempted to go outside and be with people but he finds that the only way he can feel good now is because of the drug. He wastes his life away getting high and as he comes down he is no longer able to recognize his surroundings or himself and finds it easier and easier to turn back to the drugs

This is a story about addiction specifically addiction to hallucinogens. The user originally used the drugs as an escape from their dark reality, but now the drug has become both their escape and prison. As they continue down this path their situation worsens and instead of facing the reality of their situation they take higher and higher dosages as they seek happiness. The story ends with the wolf in sheep’s clothing (the drugs) taking the life of the user after an OD.

Starting in a white room, Ian is shown im a state of "innocence" (childhood). The "magical door" is the impression drugs made on his mind and the first time(s) he took them, he was experiencing the whole world and universe in a new exciting way. The next trips are similar, but Ian starts to change, and in one moment, the lyrics mention "the need" for the drugs. When the video shows an older version of Ian, we are looking at the potential outcome of his life, if he would have continued this path. It would have been drug addiction and death. The monster shows that the door (the lure to drugs) is something demonic and in the end it kills you and you will be alone. I think the video is a very personal statement about the life of Ian and his decision to stop taking drugs. It is inspiring, and thinking in the long-term effects is the best way to wake-up! Thanks timcast crew and Ian for the great video and the great message!

Came back to leave a longer, more specific comment. I know this is about the horrific struggles of addiction. But another meaning I personally pulled from this, is when you learn how to produce your own psychadelics, you suddenly have a seemingly endless supply of them then it's easy to fall into using them daily or weekly to learn more and more about the unknown and secrets most people never access. "You've opened your mind at the cost of your life." My substance was DMT. I was producing grams of it and using it several times per week. At that frequency, it changes you pretty much forever. I'm still eternally grateful I did this. But you definitely sacrifice something by doing that. And I was becoming so disconnected from the physical realm that the trips were no longer profound. It was like I started hating this world and only wanting to live in that one. And that's around the time the trips also started becoming darker and more twisted. Which isn't supposed to happen. It was telling me to stop doing this. My point is, too much of any substance can be really bad in its own way. And my mind is definitely effected majorly for the rest of my life. Be careful when playing with shit you're never supposed to experience as a human. Thank you Tim for producing a video many of us can relate to in different ways.

the eyes of advice show what you want to see you should go outside to see what’s there really instead you abide it’s so much more easy to just sit inside believing what’s seeming This is my two stanza summary of what I see this song is about: the confrontation between the hard truth of reality, and the ease with which one can slip into blissful, ignorant reverie by believing the lie, by taking the Soma, the pill of comforting, fed belief. When one opens the door to truth, they are faced with the dual onslaught of evil and good. It takes one’s own moral character to navigate this morass, to see through the deceits of darkness posing as illumination, to persist in the truth despite compulsion to deviation. The song describes this very struggle. Ian never goes through the door to see what is truly there outside, he is only fed emanations from it, emanations that, at the end scene, are revealed, with the pill and bottle, to be simply perpetuating his ‘seeming’ of what is there. He is back under the intoxication of the Soma, in comfortable light, rejuvenated, yet still physically aged, because this delusional ‘reality’ does nothing to further life, life that is bent on experiencing truth.

It's about chasing fame and how it compares to being an addict. The eyes of advice are everyone who loves you when you are famous and tells you how you should present yourself, but will leave you just as fast when you are no longer in the spotlight. I’m an addict. For 20 years now. I spent a year in a cheap hotel, destroying myself everyday, not eating for weeks, just drinking cheap vodka 24/7. By the end of that year, my room was trashed, I couldn’t even walk into the bathroom, when I could, I passed out on the toilet, broke the toilet bowl from the floor, smashed my head on the sink, knocking it off the wall. The bathroom became infested with rats, and nothing worked, so I closed it off. It was full of bags of trash almost to the ceiling. The floor of the room was completely covered in empty liquor bottles, glass bottles, I couldn’t step without stepping on one. I snuck my cats into the room, pets weren’t allowed. They pissed all over my covers, but I was so far gone I used them anyway. I had two buckets by the bed, one for vomit, the other to use the bathroom in. Sores started appearing all over my legs. I was dying. One day I woke up, and I couldn’t move my legs. Not even my toes. My arms were going out too, I picked up a water bottle and had to use two hands to hold it. I laid there for hours thinking whatever was wrong will pass. When it didn’t, I had to call someone and they called an ambulance. I hadn’t let anyone into that room the entire year.. until then. My ass had to be carried out. I didn’t stand on my own again for 3 years. During that time, I lost some of the closest family I had, and couldn’t even go to their funerals. I was out of state. All I did for those years, was get into politics like I never had before. It was 2015. In 2016, I was still leftwing, but hated Hillary, so I reluctantly supported Trump. I figured at least he has a 50/50 chance of being good. I was introduced to a lot of KZread channels. Sargon and Styx being the first two, then you, Tim, and others like AIU, and various others I can’t remember at the moment. I really got into Jordan Peterson and the other professors that year that were having to deal with all the student backlash bullshit. And the Halloween crap when one teacher said the students shouldn’t worry about what costumes they wear, then her and her husband got bombarded by whining troglodytes. I got into the “Internet Bloodsports” crowd. Of course, because I had nothing else in my waking life. I was living on a futon. But the ones who were doing important things, I stuck with all this time. I was forced to be sober those years. And I. Hilt up my strength enough to teach myself to walk again. Now my legs are stronger than they ever were before. I’m dealing with a lot of mental crap from those years, and the ones that led up to them. Anyway, I guess I’m just writing because people don’t realize some things some drugs, or liquor, can do to you. You may just wake up one day, and not be able to move. Alcoholic Neuropathy. I will have severe pain in my legs and feet probably for the rest of my life. Anyway, thanks for being a voice I could listen to every day since way back then.

Not sure if youve already picked a winner, but my best guess is its about ian going through an addiction/withdrawal process and how it changes/kills you inside and out. The first door seems like he was close to the light and getting out of the addiction, but then a door opens behind him and the smoke monster comes out, enticing him to take more to feel better again. When his face starts morphing, it looks like hes dying. Then he perks back up when he looks at the smoke monster door, probably thinking it is the answer and feels better knowing hes close to a fix and feeling better. It shows a good depiction between the euphoria in the brain vs the physical and emotional pain it causes. Also the roach feels like it was a signal to how ian was feeling, like hes low to the floor in spirit and surviving off of scraps (metaphorically) instead of thriving. Not sure if thats what you were looking for, but overall the whole things seems to be about ian fighting an addiction and going through withdrawals, but consistently giving up before its out of his system because of the mental and physical anguish he feels while going through the withdrawals. The first trip was bright and colorful, then each trip after gets less and less beautiful making him take more to get back to the euphoric state that he once knew and loved, but slowly coming to grips he'll never experience it again.

So many interpretations, all I know is this video came to me for a reason. But it’s super spiritual and literal for me, but others think it’s all metaphor, thank god this reality is just signals being sent to the brain and we all get what we want to perceive.

When you’ve become so obsessed but then later depressed about everything you’ve learned over time. It’s makes you feel so alone knowing that no one else close to you does and it’s easier just to cope with what you know until it leads to your own self destruction. Idk that’s just my take….

Awesome video! Great art can create unlimited interpretations. Here’s what I got from it. Obviously this is about addiction, to anything. Part 1: introduction to the vice. It’s beautiful. An entire universe of possibilities. Part 2: Vice is having negative side effects. Trying to chase the feeling of the introduction but can’t get to the same place and the attempts are taking a toll. Part 3: self destruction. Now you’re hooked. That feeling of being open to the universe is now a feeling of drowning. You can sense the despair but are so deep and addicted at this point there’s no going back. Part 4: curtain call. The vice that welcomed you with open arms shows it’s true form because it’s too late to go back. You’ll embrace the monster at this point to your own detriment.

I’m convinced your producer is that guy on Instagram who makes video like “this song is for a girl who seems innocent but actually has a darker freaky side” “SHE SEEMS INNOCENT BUT SHES GOT A DARK DARK FREAKY SIDE”. Plus I know your guy wears a bandana like that, too.

The production on this is incredible, and I'm not even talking about the video (which is great as well) but the music production is incredible. Well done Carter. Carter (or "Timcast" needs to do a whole post-rock/electronic album.

I'd go even harder on the chorus and with less or none of the freeze framing. But I have to say this is one of the better songs I've heard out of the Timcast. Thanks for sharing boys, keep up the good work.

Ian represents every guest on Timcast who was told not to vape and is having withdrawals. The eyes of advise are Tim’s literal eyes represented by the grim reaper ghost who will end lives if he sees his guests vape on his show.

I personally have a bad problem with alcohol abuse...used to be a handle of Captain Morgan a night and now I'm down to 6 beers a night. Not a huge improvement ,but it's an improvement on the previous consumption level. I love that you guys put out a video on addiction knowing it's not your typical commentary. The message of this release has pushed me to lessen my alcohol intake per night going forward. Thank you. I'll try to stick to it and make this song more meaningful with every life it touches.
