TIMBERTECH AG 183-K Review! Is this the best cheap airbrush on amazon?

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Timbertech AG 183 K airbrush review. This is a remarkably cheap yet highly versatile and so far proving to be very durable airbrush! I have not found another cheap airbrush that Have liked more!
Being self centering removeable nozzles is a huge advantage over tiny screw in nozzles that can get lost or damaged easily. ESPECIALLY for new airbrush artists!
I did forget to mention I polished the needles so I am mentioning it here!

By far my favorite budget friendly airbrush is the creos platinum 270 or 289 but they do not have the huge .8 the timbertech has. The iwata eclipse hp-cs is always worth a look and having even if a bit pricey. The infinity by h&S is pretty expensive and If I wanted a high end detail airbrush the GSI Creos p2 771 fits the need as well as a custom micron CMC+ And at least here is cheaper than the infinity. I believe spraygunner ships airbrushes of a certain price free to anywhere. So jump off my spraygunner link in the description and shoot them an email if there are no suppliers in your area. I would order a spare needle and nozzle at the same time just in case something happens in the future. @@MichaelRozie

For 25 bucks I grabbed a 2nd after the first one. I’ve been using the .8 for background and edging my canvases a lot (I use the 1.5 inch deep canvas. Makes that coverage a breeze Aside from how well it does pearls and stuff. I’m a huge fan of self centering nozzles , so I may be a bit biased. But it’s proving pretty durable. I don’t think there’s any other cheap airbrush that’s as versatile. I think next on airbrushes I plan on doing comparisons. Ie. Eclipse versus ps 289 creos. Both fantastic but slightly different brushes. At least that’s my general idea. It occurs to me I’ve never done an eclipse “review”. Even if I’ve been using them for years

These are great bargains! I ordered one of these based on 2 things... 1. because of your review, and 2. because the nozzle design was identical to the Neoeco 116B (pistol grip and trigger style) which I really love for finishes on the guitars I build. In fact, today I ordered 2 more of the AG-183-K's as this will give me a dedicated .3mm, .5mm, and .8mm setup without having to change nozzles each time, and gives me 2 extra needle sets for each size. I really do think these are the most versatile airbrushes on the market, and at the same time very affordable for the performance they give. The only other airbrush I would recommend is the Neoeco new design SJ83, which also has drop in nozzles but the size range is .2mm, .3mm, and .5mm, which will give you the .2mm for very fine detail. I am thoroughly convinced at this point that actual performance is based on needle/nozzle design, well polished needles (which you will have to do with all brands and setups), and smooth action. So, if you can get those three things for under $30 there is no need for the big name airbrushes. If you are looking for the pistol grip/trigger style, make sure it is the 116B, NOT the 116A. The 116A also has a drop in style nozzle (which they call a new design) but they are impossible to find replacements as of yet on Amazon, or anywhere else for that matter. Thanks again Bill for all that you do in this channel! You are the most down to earth yet, intelligent person I have seen talking about airbrushes.

If they had a fixed cup design using these nozzles I would use these even more. I was not a fan of the neoeco, because I felt they were a little slow to respond, which is similiar in feel to H&S (not the new ones) that I never much cared for. I had one here shortly now my oldest grandson has it. which he may or may not take a liking to them :/ Thank you so much for your overly kind words!

I just got one of these and am generally pleased with it, especially for work with heavier mediums. There is one thing I can’t figure out and that is the downward trigger action. It grabs at bit when I depress the trigger then releases with a little jerk instead of moving freely. I’ve stripped it down and put it back together and nothing changed. Not a showstopper but mildly annoying. I can’t try another trigger at the moment as the pin is a smaller diameter than my other Chinese brushes which all have a detachable air valve assembly.

Ill see but the largest cup holds a fair amount. Its bigger than the normal c size cups. Master sells a bottle feed version of this brush also. But again im not sure if it has the stainless or brass nozzles. Its also significanly more money.. Masters version of this same exact airbrush is triple almost what I paid for this. The bottle feed version is more reasonable but still double. Im sure ill get some hate.. but im ordering 2 more of these, gonna keep one setup with the .3 one with the .8 and all the spares with the third. The .5 may get some love too... but i used it very little overall. If I get some bigger canvases to do maybe ill know what I think of that size more then.. I mean its sufficient. I just used the .8 and .3 the most.

Seems all the cheap airbrushes from the past year or 2 are very much improved. I have the Master side feed version of this airbrush from 4 or so years ago and only the .3 and 5 setups worked. The .8 needle hole in the cap was off center and looked to me like it was to long front to back to get decent atomization. Based on your review here, this looks to be a new and improved top feed version from the Fengda factory. I've had one saved for later in my Amazon cart for the last year or so. (I did buy the timbertech side feed with screw in nozzles and am very impressed with that airbrush for the price.) Think I'll pull the trigger and grab this airbrush. Looks like lots of room between the cup and the trigger also, which I like! Thanks for the review! Dominic

I have two. Neither with alignment issues. Certainly I’d imagine there are going to be some misses with them here and there. I actually use the .8 a lot since my eclipse can only go to .5. The .3 setup on these was too slow for me I mentioned in the video. So I pulled a .3 needle from a different Chinese brush which suprised me there was a difference on taper. But sure enough both have a long taper .3 needle. Some will like that however since it won’t be as sensitive I wish they made these in a single cup configuration I’m debating on a 6 pack bottle feed set of these just to toy around with textile work again

Hi on the first video of that 183k airbrush i responded and we had a little conversation. I have bought in this month another 2 Fengda 183K airbrushes. Now i got 3 for the totale price of $108,-. All set up in 1 size. Now i got replacement parts for all of them in stock. Bought then also a tube of Flitzz polishing paste. And man the are gowing smooth as a hot knife through the butter. About that front o-ring you can use that white tape or Vaseline and Beewax. I prefer the Vaseline because under pressure and the air passing it close up perfect, and in the ultrasonic it cleaner much faster.Beewax is a bit more stubborn. While I normally do not recomend teflon tape on the nozzle cap indeed it could be used in this case. i use Portland beeswax chapstick. @@tamarabukta2771 as mentioned the nozzle cap needs to be sealed with beeswax or other sealent. There really are only a couple places air leaks can happen. The head cap and the nozzle cap. Exactly like on the iwata eclipse. The head cap on these need a fair amount of torgue on them, and ive not used sealent on mine and neither leak there. The nozzle caps on the other hand i used beeswax and make sure its a touch more than hand tight or they will probably leak. If your swapping nozzle caps to different needle sizes of course its more likely The needle packing is a domed PTFE type. If it needs adjusting you have to work slowly with very minor adjustments and then check the needle is just barely dragging. The triggers are obviously not as smooth as on say my creos or even my eclipse. the difference being the back of the trigger is rounded versus flat. if your getting any gritty feeling look for any burr on the back of the trigger, add lube to the spring /needle guide where things rub. Honestly gritty in the trigger comes down to seeing what might be rubbing. Occasionally i've found some triggers have little casting marks on them.. Even on fairly expensive airbrushes ive seen visible marks from the cutting/grinding process and they generally wear away with use.. a drop of lube on and then wiped off where the trigger meets the needle guide makes a difference.. but not enough to me i really bother anymore. Thank you for the kind words!

Little late to the party on your channel and new subscriber. Thanks very much for the information you provide. I bit on one of these and am not disappointed. There are two issues with this brush that I am still working on. 1. Upon pulling back the trigger, it is very rough almost like it hangs or there are rough spots in the slot. Still working on smoothing it out. Despite that it sprays better than the two masters I have been working with. 2. When screwing on my air quick disconnect tight enough for it not to leak, the brush sprays air out of the nozzle. Ordered tools to address this and I suspect the quality of my quick disconnect. Thanks again for this body of work on the channel. I just keep pouring over it.

I dont even use them anymore.. just keep a couple hoses hooked up. i just got tired of so many of them leaking.. or causing the trigger to hang up. and with a block i can turn the air off and change an airbrush in only a few seconds more than using a quick connect i dont bother. Im using the .8 for hoser duties. But it is suprisingly capable. The .5 is a pretty capable general purpose on its own. I just felt the .3 was too slow and linear and once I changed to a different needle setup it became a different machine. the longer slower needle was ok for thinner paint. But i like my paint a little thicker and it couldn't deal with that well. The needles in all of these brushes are so far all the same diameter rod. which is pretty thin. ill probably take a chance on a 5 pack of .3s and see which taper they come with. and ill let you know when I do :)

Hi there. Thank you so much for what you share. Am I right that this Timbertech is in fact a Fengda FE183K Airbrush ?. I have just bough the Fengda FE 186K which is very similar to the 183K. The 186K has an air adjusting screw valve at the underside of the front of the airbrush and it is listed as a little bit more expensive than the 183K. I found this air adjuster to be not very good. There is no lock when you fully open the valve and when you try to screw it in again to reduce or cut off the air it does nothing as it has come out of the valve thread. Rather not have an adjuster than have to fiddle around with it. Like you I found that the O ring had to be changed to give the rear trigger adjuster a nice feel but that is no big deal. I found that the trigger on the 186 had some resistance when pushing down for air, in fact it kind of clicked a little to get past the resistance. I am very likely to have just got the odd one with problems. I was wondering if you had ever tried the Timbertech / Fengda FE186K and what your thoughts on it are ?.

It was scratchy to the finger and if you saw under magnifier you could see the bent. It was clearly a new and unused brush that came this way from the manufacturer. I had to run it on a 1000 grit sanding and then polish it. It’s good now, but it’s something I’d never forgive in an Iwata. Seeing that this is an airbrush that goes for $20-$30 in other countries makes sense about the needle quality, and the $60 I paid seems a bit stretched.

Yes the needles on every Chinese brush I’ve had are not in great condition Almost always will you want to polish them. No question I’d not forgive that in a 150 dollar airbrush. But at 25 bucks? I’m most impressed with the nozzle quality. And for a beginner. These are going to be very easy to clean. I’ve been airbrushing for a long time and I still appreciate self centering drop in nozzles There are other branded versions of this brush here in the states that cost over that 60 mark. (Same brush different name on the side). And people still buy them. Thanks for your feedback! I appreciate it!

ive been running a kobalt quiet tech 4.3 gallon compressor for over 3 years now. If i were starting out right now and had the space I would probably buy this at current price I do have a video on hooking up to regular compressors. amzn.to/3KiRacQ ++aff link which means I earn comissions if you buy through said link++ And that is very dependant on needs space and tolerance for noise. I wouldn't run one of these in a second story apartment.. but in my house they are perfectly acceptable. Look up my video on air compressors for more info :)

I realised I need an airbrush, so I'm researching. So far I've decided to go with common compresor (einhell TE-AC 24 silent, supposedly 57dbA) based on your older video recommendation (before that I concluded that I need a tank), and current idea for brush is sparmax gp 850. My main (better said first) reason is I want to be able to put isolation coat and varnish for my impasto acrylic paintings (water soluble and removable, so not solvent based things). So I want to have a bigger cup than 2-5-7ml usually seen on airbrushes. However this one has nozzle of 0.5, and since you've mentioned here you wanted 0.8 for metallic paints, now I'm wondering if 0.5 will be too small for gloss medium thinned with water/airbrush medium? I started painting just a month ago, and still haven't varnished anything, I don't want solvents in spray in my room, acrylics smells less bad :D So do you maybe have some other recommendation for airbrush for such purposes? And I've saved this one in my list for later experiments with painting itself :D Also, would you mind explaining how you've polished the needles? Thank you for this and older videos that helped me in figuring out what I want/need!

There is a significant difference in needles for fan pattern airbrushes and regular airbrushes(at least the good ones, i reviewed one before that was a dud in that department) . If you recall me mentioning the taper? Well on a spray gun and the better fan pattern airbrushes that tip is very blunt. And designed to completely move out of the way of the opening. Letting out a much larger volume of material faster. For instance I use a GSI Creos ps 290 a lot which is also .5 And it will spray sealers and pearls and such with no problem. As a fact i painted all those colorshift speed shapes with that airbrush(one the createx colorshift video) . And then did a UVLS clearcoat on one of them using the same airbrush. I THINK the sparmax GP 850 uses the same needle as the iwata TH. But i'm not certain it does. If your paintings are very large you may want a bigger spray pattern than those even will give but the next biggest things is the iwata lph 80 which is a very great low air consumption mini spray gun. After that you get into slightly larger mini spray guns. A .8 mini spray gun will put out a lot more material than any airbrush. At a lot wider fan pattern. That is probably a good video topic.. Ive touched on it in reviews on fan pattern brushes though.

i have a video on repairing and polishing needles.. But simple polishing I use a 3000 grit trizact pad and sometimes even polishing compound. However on these I did do machine polishing, however if your heavy handed / clumsy / not mechanically inclined its a good way to mess up a perfectly good needle with high speed tools involved. I use my mini polisher (3 inch round for polishing paint etc) Run it up with a 3k pad and turn the needle while laying the taper flat making sure the rotation is pulling away from me. Its not hard, but being aggresive could alter the needle... not much risk with over 3k pads and some comon sense and caution. But any more aggresive grit could quickly change the taper or dig in flat spots.

  • @TheAIRspace

non machine polishing I just push down with my finger against a polishing pad and spin the needle and draw it back to me.. it takes about 1 minute by hand ... it takes about 10 seconds on a polisher.

I expect ill take some heat. Some will assume I was dogging iwata.. i'm not but they don't have anything that throws out huge round patterns. the .5 eclipse as i'm sure you know doesn't throw out those huge lines like the omni/original patriot. And this in the .8 throws out like the patriot with the bigger needle. and you would have to buy the super detail setup to get it to pull lines like the .3 .. My issue there is the conversion on the patriot was shall we say spotty in quality. Like you i got a couple badgers broken upon arrival. I think you will be suprised . pro tip if you got another chinese .3 needle you might like that better like I did. just made it really close to behaving like an eclipse. That cup fitting looks similar to the H&S Infinity and Evolution, it would be interesting to see if they would be interchangeable (as a big cup like that would be probably nearly 40-50bucks) if it was I'd be thinking of grabbing one just for the cups, looking at it,it actually looks like a hybrid of Iwata and H&S (yes I know Iwata now owns H&S, but keeps the same standards as H&S). Something I realized the last years... as I bought some airbrushes besides Badgers and Iwatas, I can tell that as in 3d printing stuff, chinese products are geting really close to the real deal. they are constantly improving them. some of the chinese brushes have serious quirks and issues. But this with a self certering nozzles was remarkable. I bought it for the .8. Then after playing with it a bit I started keeping the .3 in it. I am in the middle of another pet portrait with this one. I'm sure someone will come along and get offended, and no question its STILL not up there with iwata or creos in quality. But this is close enough I cant feel it when I am painting. Its really had me questioning what I was spending. Now with that said ill STILL be buying more airbrushes. And some fairly expensive ones im sure.. cause well I like to play and test them. oh my one complaint would be the needles REALLY needed to be polished... Iwata and creos can stand a little polishing badger much more so.. but these were probably even a hair rougher than badger. That would be the only thing to stand out aside from the nozzle cap being a little worrisome, but again thats a super simple fix. Its centered up and aligned on all of them so it didnt affect anything.

@@TheAIRspace I think that while the chinese airbrushes are getting better these last years, the top ones like Iwata and Badger lost a bit of quality. Months ago I found a Badger 150 that my father used... and is nowhere, nowhere at all like one I bought 2 years ago. Where I live (Argentina) it´s really difficult to get replacement parts, and if you buy something online, all the taxes here are just nonsense. For example... 1 us$ = 375 argentine pesos. Average salary is around 80.000 to 100.000. So, when you buy something online, the currency just destroys the amount of money I can spend in this hobby without my wife killing me... and that, without the taxes. In Argentina, all international stuff you can buy (and a lot of things are forbidden here, don´t know why), you have to add 75% of your order to the total. Hard to get new stuff for me, while keeping my wife happy. That´s why I buy here, used airbrushes and modify them. Recently bought a Badger Crescendo 175, the oldest one, it was abandoned years ago in a garage for about 20 us$, but I´m searching for the spray regulator... only part that´s missing. There´s something about old airbrushes... maybe it´s me liking vintage stuff, don´t know.
